Holy crap, thanks so much! The Google Chrome Remote Desktop has always been so finicky with remoting in. Appreciate this! One thing I found while trying to install the .bat file, I would right click and run as admin and nothing would happen. The workaround that helped me was running the .bat file in cmd (admin mode). Otherwise solid tutorial!

Both should support it. What was the resolution? You can add it to options.txt before installing.

You likely don’t have the required windows update. That often causes the code 31. Can you check for updates and see if there are any hidden?

As Mike tells you in the video, unzip it to c:\ so the options.txt file is in c:\iddsampledriver or you need to upgrad win11 to 23H2(i belive it was), Both problems could give Code31 in my setup.

I installed the HDR driver and create the display with hdr enabled, tried to stream from Host Pc with gamestream to LG C2 first and then to Nvidia Shield pro, sadly no one works, it show some errors,I was very exited to use the display driver .maybe I'm doing something wrong, in the mean time I will return to the dummy plug without HDR Maybe if you have a video with examples of the full process , because I turn off my main monitor and other things that maybe.are creating the issues

I'm trying to use this as a way to use Moonlight without having my monitor always on. I installed the driver and the display shows up and i can stream with Moonlight just fine on SDR but with HDR the contrast is very high and I can't seem to reconfigure the colors as there is no option to select a color profile in Windows settings and my nVidia control panel doesn't show any settings for configuring the virtual display. Is there any way to configure the display colors and HDR profile?

I get all the way until the "install from disk" screen. When I select the IddSampleDriver and hit OK, it just refreshes with the same "Install From Disk" screen popping up, while also making the classic Windows 11 error sound. Followed the instruction perfectly. Am on the newly released Windows 24H2 on a Surface Copilot PC.

Thanks! This is the only solution I found that works for me and I really appreciate the work you put in. As a side note, could you add a disclaimer to the older version of this video. I mistakenly used the old instructions for the new driver and it messed up my display settings pretty bad (likely would've been locked out of my system if I didn't have teamviewer). This probably won't happen to most people but it would be a good heads up for anyone with my level of bad reading comprehension.

I dont know how, but when I started my pc today it was gone, eventhough I had restarted it several times before so I dont know what was different today. HDR has never been possible with a VDD in Windows 10. It's a Windows system feature that only comes with the latest Win11 updates.

⁠basically if i only had the VDD as my display then i would get the black screen, and i wasnt able to switch to VDD when using dummy plug or actual monitor. Finally fixed it by disabling igpu and also installing a separate virtual display software, which in tandem with yours I was able to boot with without getting the black screen issue. Although now I have the HDR contrast issue and have to turn it on and off every time I login but at least it works.

Sorry to ask a basic question, but since Moonlight and Steam Link allow one to select different resolutions and fps ratres and bit-rates, and will even reconfigure monitor graphics settings and game graphics settings when streaming, how and why does one make use of this driver? Does one configure one's games to match the virtual monitor's resolution when steraming, & reconfigure them when playing directly on one's physical computer/display? Thanks much!

Basically, my 1440p display doesn’t support 4K streaming to my TV. It can only do 1440p. So I use the virtual driver to stream a 4K feed to it. I also use it to mimic my Steam Decks resolution without messing with my main display.

Similarly, if your monitor only supports 60hz, but you’re streaming to a device that supports 120hz, you could run it on the virtual display to get the full 120hz sent even though your monitor doesn’t support it.

I installed a second virtual display, but in sunshine page audio / video configuration in Output Name i put \\.\DISPLAY5 and works my first aditional screen , but i need another screen and i putted \\.\DISPLAY5\\.\DISPLAY6 and dont works , the second screen duplicates the aditional virtual display and i cant show my extendible screen on the second virtual display because is duplicated how can i fix that ?

HDR isn't supported on Windows 10, so you would need a different solution like hdr-switch. However, Qres only supports resolutions your monitor supports. This enables more resolutions and refresh rates and can be used in conjunction with qres. :)

I don't need to set resolutions I have the virtual display already set to my phone's resolution and just set projection from primary screen only to secondary only (virtual) whenever I want. I use "unexpected keyboard" so I can use any windows shortcuts from alt tabbing to toggling HDR on and off (with meta or windows key + alt + b)

I've managed to get this working (I installed the beta version), but I'm only able to select one of five display resolutions (800x600, 1366x768, 1080p, 1440p, 4k). "List all modes" also only shows those resolutions. Maybe I'm missing something - any help would be much appreciated!

I feel like I'm missing something very basic so sorry in advance. When I install the virtual display adapter through the Add Legacy Hardware, Windows 11 switches to the virtual display and my main monitor (connected to my graphics card) goes blank. The only way I can restore the display on my main monitor is then to boot into Safe Mode and delete the IddSampleDriver folder in C:. Is there something I need to change in my Windows 11 settings so it will add the virtual adapter but yet keep the main monitor as my primary display?

The python package being used requires the GPU to render for comparison against standard screen captures. This is being done via scheduled tasks, so it has to render to a monitor that is always on. I'd like it to render to a virtual monitor so that I can do away with the physical monitor.

Probably would not be worth the time to figure out why, but the Amyuni virtual display is allowing Python to work headless perfectly. If anyone is interested in running Python and packages requiring a display in headless mode, I would give the Amyuni display a shot.

Thank you for the tutorial, for me setting up virtual screen worked perfectly, launching steam big picture on the correct screen worked, when i launc the game hogwarts legacy or red dead redemption they launch on main screen instead of the client opening on virtual (showing background after launch). Does this work better than a dummy hdmi? I was using the HDR version of this and after a restart the display was greyed out and I couldn’t see it via command prompt. I installed the non hdr drivers and it’s working again. Does restarting your system cause it to lose the settings?

Created a custom resolution to perfectly match my phone screen resolution but HDR is not working, while it works fine if I use the base 4k resolution of my first real hdr monitor -edit: Got it working by using an SDR / HDR switch program that bypasses the display control panel menu, HDR switch for win 11

I have the whole thing as a combination with a Win11 laptop and the Nvidia Shield on a 4K TV This worked great with Moonlight from the Nvidia driver, but no longer worked with the new app. Now in the Sunshine / Moonlight combo I always have the wrong aspect ratio when streaming. Host PC 2560x1600 and the client 4K - also black bar. Can that be changed?

Set virtual driver to 4K so it matches the TV.

Thanks so much for the tutorial ,It succeeded on my monitor but the highest resolution only 3840*2160(while i m using 5120*1440 with my display 1050ti(would upgrade soon); is the installation problem or my display card could not support please?;(

Okay so i use moonlight and i am trying to stream to my 4k60hz tv from my 1080p165hz monitor. Some games have 3d resolution options(or resolution scale). 100% means native, 50% means 540p and so on. If i use that instead will that work without using this program? For example setting 200% for 4k. Will that make my game at my 4k tv 4k? (4k stream, 1080p resolution in game, 200% resolution scale). I am genuinely confused.

If you use resolution scale, you’re basically resizing your 1080p screen. This creates a second screen that’s actually 4K. (Or any res). So it streams direct without any scaling.

With all do respect to your work that has clearly helped and worked for many people, this published virtual display needs more work put into it. As an average user I got 2 times the black screen of death with 2 different PCs solely by following your easy tutorial, which ended up being a scary experience and an economic cost. I don't know if it's caused by Sunshine or this driver, but in its current state it's definitely not user friendly. I don't want to sound negative, it simply doesn't behave nearly as expected and it's not correctly warned or explained how to avoid this terrible issue. I would remove the publication until the stability of it is better and the black screen with sunshine possibility can be eliminated or the issues be warned more extensively!

Yeah. You can make a virtual display the same size of your TV and cast that.

This is absolutely great, liked and subscribed! So I have created a virtual display with the resolution of my phone, now I am on my moonlight app on my phone and I select native which is the resolution that I have created my pc as a virtual display. What do I do from here so that I can automatically use that resolution, instead of the 4k resolution that my tv which is hooked up to my pc via hdmi is running at?

SAME VIDEO THAT YOU DONT EXPLAIN WHAT ARE A VIRTUAL DISPLAY, WHY WE NEED ONE, AND FOR WHAT WE NEED A VIRTUAL DISPLAY, just simple installation that i can follor the docs, no example showing why we need, what it is and for what!

@@MikeTheTech But for example in the video of sunshine you just explain you dont show the Moonlight client and how to know good latency and how to configure properly to be stable, and change a setting and see what happend when IS on and of do you understand me? For example if I got a Game with controller and I disable use controller see what happend, and that for every setting, thats a very good video and we can see it visually do you understand, see the states of every setting, like when you program something, you see the states of every setting of the software
