How to install front one way on WLtoys K969 & My Drift Setup DEC 2017 [60FPS]

This video is shot entirely in 60 FPS so please enjoy the smoothness.
This is my setup of December 2017 and a lot is going on here.
The tricky part is installing front one way on this car and I managed to get it fully working so I want to share to you how I did it.

I just ordered the one way diff but it did not come with shims to fit in the diff case like yours did. Do you happen to know the shim sizes I would need? I have longer cv shafts so I’m not worried about extending the cups.

I installed front one way with rear locked differential on my 969. When I release the throttle and decelerate the car spins completely around. I know that's the idea of this differential but it's bad, like uncontrollable and harder to drive than before when both locked. Before all four tires just locked up and the car slid straight and was predictable but now it's like locking up an e-brake and the back whipping around. Tires are DS Racing LS4 narrow +3 offset. Steering linkage moved to top hole in servo arm. Everything else stock. Tires spin smoothly so binding not the problem. Surface is smooth slick vinyl kitchen flooring. Any ideas what could be wrong? It is definitely not smooth and controllable like in your videos with this setup. Thanks for your time.

That's the idea of front one way, to have it behave like e-brake all the time. If you coming in fast it will almost certainly going into spin. If the tension between 2 sides is not equal, the steering veer into one side more than another it'll spin once you let go of the throttle.

@@BeaversHobby front one way is definitely not for me then. This might work better for a very small area where you can keep a drift going for a long time doing just lots of circles. I have more of a drift track setup with cut back corners. This e-brake behavior does not work for my course. Thank you for the response. For your one way diff you're cutting a piece of tubbing but you didn't tell how thick it is , it looks like 1 or 2 mm but can you confirm please ? thanks.

The thickness depends on how much you need. You'll have to experiment with it. However this is an old method and you are better off with just replacing the CVD to longer ones (here's the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH2keamKdsZppK8 ) so you don't have to put anything in the one way that will risk falling off or not working. @@BeaversHobby thank you for the Bangood link but for the AliExpress one I can confirm that it does not work. I made the mistake of buying them only to find that they are the same length as the originals. But the threads are 2mm longer but the overall length is the same.

For the prop shaft pinion there's no direct upgrade to buy. But you can get Tamiya Mini 4WD metal motor pinion and mod the original pinion to put the metal gear on. You can follow this tutorial (it's at the 2nd half of the video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZqYZZehl8iSeMU . If you want motor gear (which isn't necessary) You can try and look in Aliexpress for 0.5mod gear.

Hi beaver, may you can help me solve a problem with my one way. I got it installed and it works. But, if drive straight way, then reducing throttle, the car goes to one side, couse tyres are breaking. Was there problems like this one at your installation?, and how could i get this issue completely out of the car?

Drop some lube in there on both sides. Try to make them have the same forward motion as possible. If one wheel is stickier than the other it'll pull the car to that side. Also check the trim too that it's dead straight. However you can't completely eliminate off-throttle spin. It's the characteristic of one way, just like rear wheel of the bicycle that continues to spin after you stop peddling. So if the car is off to one side it'll veer off or spin.

No, because swing shafts are the same size and they still won't reach the drive cups. I have thought of an easier way to use any Mini-Z compatible diffs but I'm still waiting for the parts to arrive.

Hey, are there any big differences (size, parts) between k969 and k989, except tye body of course. I wonder because the bigger series are different chassis, the rally a949 is not the same as a959 for example. Thanks in advance and thanks for vids!

The wheels are different K989 comes with grip/rally tyres but K969 comes with drift tyres. And K989 comes with open diff but K969 comes woth solid axle (locked diff). That's it.

I have k969 and I see differential is already lock. If you see the inside differential, there is no gear. I know because I also bought new differential for wltoys 1/28. It's completely different. K969 differential are already locked, both rear and front. There weren't 3 tiny gear. So when I bought new differential, I just change rear differential. cmiiw

Yes, that's one of the difference between these versions, K969 comes with locked diff and drift tyres and it's ready to drift without having to mod the open diff.

I think if you just want drift, you shoudn't buy k989 and have to buy expensive diff that doesn't fit to k989. Just simple buy k969...and you got not one, but two locked diff.

@@asq8286 Sure, you'll get locked diff out of the box but my point is to drift well you need front one way especially after doing CS mod. And to have front one way you'll have to either mod the one way diff like in this video or use long CVD like my final update of this car kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHOWoYiEbr2cidk . Front one way will give the car handbrake effect and makes the car initiating drift easier and better overall. Open diff can be locked easily but solid axle can't work like a diff so it's a trade off one really need to decide which direction should go with.

Is k969 diff not a one way? I thought because it's a locked diff it means one way. So I thought I just need change rear diff, isn't it?

@@asq8286 No, one way means the wheels can spin forward freely when the motor stops (definition and how it works here kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2OWiZmwZsitm80 ) and we only put it in the front. Also you don't need to change rear diff, rear locked is perfect already. If you want the front to shove in the corner faster just change it to one way.

Monoshock on it self will make the car feels like you have anti-roll bar. It will increase the front end grip a fair bit. It's also good to move the shock towers away so the wheels won't hit anything at extreme angle from the previous mod.

No, you don't need any more modding. Just use the custom drive cups in a front one way and it will work. Sinohobby is good front one way and 3Racing is also good. You can use any of them. If I remember correctly the custom drive cups were initially for 3Racing front one way but the shaft is the same size as Sinohobby so they will work with both. ps. Lucky you 😃

They should work. The shaft is normally the same size in this scale. Or better still, you can do the other trick to not modifying drive cup at all, just change the swing shaft (CVD) to atomic long CVD. Here's how you do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH2keamKdsZppK8

No, Mini-Q is exactly the same width as standard Mini-Z. You can drop any Mini-Z compatible diff in and it'll work without mod.

I don't have the 1/24 but from the infos I gathered only the wheels are compatible. 1/28 wheels are kinda small. Maybe too small for 1/24 so they might not look good on the car. There are metal dog bones upgrade specifically for this car too so that shouldn't be a problem. But the other parts are not compatible.

For driving perspective Mini-Q is much better right out of the box especially Q7. Even Q6 is already very good. Also Mini-Q has more part compatibility with Kyosho Mini-Z so the support is plentiful especially the differential. With Mini-Q you can drop in a front one way from either Mini-Z, 3Racing or it's own brand whichever will work without modification. WLtoys might looks more like 1/10 scale car but diffs are not directly compatible so you need a lot of ingenuity to get them work (as you can see in this video). But if you love to fabricate and mod your own stuff WL provides great platform to hack and parts are not expensive.

AssassinAsian 635 JJRC Q35 servo fits without modification. Mini-Q servo also. Apart from these two will need either mod on the servo or bracket. Otherwise you van use any 5g to 9g servo and use double sided tape to stick it down.
