Oh man there's away quicker and easier way also. You take the kickstand nut off, remove the nut and keyed plate, rotate the kisckstand forward, hook the spring on both ends, rotate the kickstand back to the "riding position" and reinstall the key plate and nut. I don't know about the older bikes but it worked on my 2000
@tinkeringwithharleys2 жыл бұрын
On my 2000 it doesn't have a nut it has a bolt and if you take that off the kick stand drops out. The older bikes are about the same that's why I showed that method. There are a couple of ways to do it. This just happens to be the way I do it.

Just replaced one on my 2013 1200 sporty. I had seen another guy show this technique. I took my bolt out and did it that way because I didn't want to take a chance on messing up the new spring in the vise. Should carry one in the saddle bags

There are a couple of different methods to replace the spring. Also depends on the year and model as how to do it. I just showed one method. Glad you got it replaced. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

I just put a spring on and I so forgot this, the Pennie’s are awesome for this
@tinkeringwithharleys2 жыл бұрын
I've been using that method for 50 years and the great thing about it is you can do it on the road if the spring breaks and you can get another one. Just need to hook the spring to something and pry it out with something to put the pennies in. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
@mikelovestoride23672 жыл бұрын
That is the hard way. Support the bike upright off the stand, Remove the acorn nut and the lock tab. Swing the stand pointing forward, the spring willl be loose. Remove and replace with new spring exactly as the old spring came off. Swing the stand back, reistall the lock tab and acorn nut, lube it and your done.
@tinkeringwithharleys2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you comment. As I said in the video there is a couple of ways to do the spring. I prefer the one in the video because you don't have to remove floor board. Thanks for watching
@mikelovestoride23672 жыл бұрын
@@tinkeringwithharleys Actually , the method I described does not require floor board removal, but you do have to support the bike so that the kick stand can be free to move. I let my bike rest on a floor jack with the jack under the r/h side frame below the engine witha slightlean to the right. If you ever try this , you will never stretch another spring. Thanks for you video.
@marquissmith4352 Жыл бұрын
He's right. Theirs an easier way.. Loosen nut pust kick. Stand forward. Spring seats right in place. (Go figure*) lol But I like the video... P.S I learned the hard way too.
@lynskyrd Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed- this pennies 'trick' still requires you to struggle putting the pennies in place. I've alway done the 'remove lock tab, swing kickstand forward' method.

The easy way is to remove the half inch bolt holding the kickstand remove the kickstand lock rotate kickstand forward and just hook up the spring and rotate back in position reinstall lock and bolt and your done 5 min job
