Absolutely the best carb rebuild online. I've never done one before, but I'm gonna follow your video. Great commentary, and relayed a tremendous amount of information....including some of the bad stuff that happens. Thanks again.

Some advice:I installed a FULL HMF exhaust system on my 02’ Kawasaki Prairie; Runs great sounds great, this video helped out. Since it’s a full system I used the HMF basic jet kit front carb main jet #145 & rear carb #148 and got a rebuild kit from ebay. I used the pilot jet that came with the eBay kit NOT a good idea had a hesitation when taking off and excessive popping from the exhaust when cruising at 1/8th throttle/coming to a stop. I pulled the pilot jet back out and it looked visually smaller then the original which is a size 40. So installed a size 42 pilot jet put the air-fuel screws 2 1/4 turns out and it ran without any problems. I live at sea level btw. If you live at higher altitudes you may have to adjust your AF screws so that you lean the fuel air mixture or possibly use a different size pilot jet. On top of all that I installed a dynatek CDI box (totally worth the money). With this combination cold starts are better, an overall increase in performance has been noticed, top speed has increased about 10mph more and has a very healthy sound. Just letting you know what worked for me.
@KReesethebeast4 жыл бұрын
Good advice you sound like you know what you're doing brother! That is pretty much what I had to do. It was a pain in the butt tuning it but it is right now. You like the Dynatek CDI? I may pick one up, I have thought about getting one. You gained 10mph? What kind/size tires are you running? I have 26in Maxxis Zillas on mine. What was your top speed before the CDI? And was this before or after doing the exhaust and re jetting.

Excellent video. Thank you! My 2003 prairie 650 started leaking gas out the air/fuel screw. Didn’t want to deal with having to pull the carbs off. Did it tonight. Watched your video and will rebuild the carbs now. Thanks again!

Awesome! Yep sounds like time for a clean and rebuild. Also, make sure you are using ethanol free gas, that will make sure those carbs stay clean for a long time. I'll tell you, if you're taking the time to rebuild them, it's a great time to install a jet kit and exhaust! Check out my video on how to do that as well. You will love it, I'm so glad I did mine. Take care and be safe.

Kevin, pulled my carbs apart, cleaned them and rebuilt them with a rebuilt kit. I’ve got two concerns that maybe you can me some guidance on since you’ve taken yours apart multiple times. Everything I’ve read says I need to reset my float height but I don’t understand how to do that. I replaced the parts on the float that came with the rebuilt kit. What do I need to set the float height or make the correct adjustment. Is it even necessary? They appear to be in the same position they were before I took them apart. 2nd concern is putting the choke cables/plungers back into the carburetor, do they have to be oriented in any particular position or do you just push them in and clamp them down? Thanks again for the help and great video!
@KReesethebeast6 жыл бұрын
You should not have to adjust the float height, and the choke cables should go back on just the way they came off and they do not have to be oriented a certain way if I remember, just make sure there is not a lot of tension on the cables when you are bolting them on. After you do it and orient the carbs the way they will sit in the bike pull the choke lever and make sure it pulls smooth. Have you put everything back together and tested how it runs yet?

Not yet I was going to do it after work today but when I got home I noticed the butterfly’s are not springing back all that fast. I didn’t split the carbs when rebuilding/cleaning because I didn’t now how to resync the butterfly’s. Now I’m thinking I need to split the carbs and clean the butterfly’s pivot points too. How fast are the butterfly’s supposed to snap back?
@KReesethebeast6 жыл бұрын
@@bryanoroarke9860 you do not have to split the carbs. Just follow my video. They should spring back normally tbey should not be hanging up. Make sure there is no resistance on the cables anywhere.

I like that last picture showing you don't have to take them all the way out to change your jets.

Yes if you can wiggle them around you may be able to get to the bottom to remove the jets.

shouldnt you check your petcock vacum if its dumping fuel into carb?
@KReesethebeast5 жыл бұрын
The fuel was leaking out of the carbs at the gasket seals. I simply rebuilt the entire carb with new parts and gaskets and took this opportunity to install new jets and an exhaust. I am not familiar with checking petcock vaccum.

excellent video. I got a rebuild kit just the other day and unfortunately i forgot after i took it apart what the two medium sized springs go to. For the life of me I cant figure out where they go. Any ideas?
@KReesethebeast5 жыл бұрын
Could possibly go to the idle air screw that is on the outside of the carb. I am glad this video helped you. Watch it and pause it and compare mine with yours that should help you out. Only other spring I can think of are the big springs that are on the top of the carb. It has been a while since I have rebuilt these carbs sorry it is not fresh in my mind.

@@Joshrich126 You can try it. Carb tuning is just that, tuning. You may have to swap it start it up run it and see if it has any flat spots. It is a tedious process, especially with two carbs to mess with.
