Not sure what lever type lock you are referring to when you say they are handing specific but I converted a 5000 series with lever from left handed set up to right handed this afternoon.

I recently installed the same lock but the free passage function doesn't stop, even if i turn the knob vertical or horizontal , it keeps opening from the outside without the code input. What can i do?

HI Wayne nice video. I have a Falcon Push Key lock that looks very similar to this lock you are installing. I went open it today from outside and when I entered the code it seemed to engage but while turning to open the out side door, the handle broke off the in my hand. I see where the handle came out of and there is a pin sticking out of the tunnel. The tunnel itself has square notches on it on opposing side of the tunnel outside of the main housing. Can you suggest anything I could do to open and replace. Will the lock possibly open if I turn the notches with a lever of some kind. Thanks Man for any advice!

I have an issue that I'm dealing with. Same lock set - latch only retracts partially. I've torn it down and looked for any clues but found none. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First spot to check is the latch. The catch or ears that catch in the lock can be stretched. That is the #1 cause of this problem. Replace the latch. If that dose not solve your problem than it could be an instalation or alignment issue. If the lock housing is not far enough back from the latch it cannot retract it all the way. Hope that helps.

Wayne Winton Actually it happens while I hold the unit in my hand. I don't want to take up your time. Just thought I'd pick your brain if you've dealt with any issues with these. These are old ones, 2005 I believe. We have a bunch on the shelf with forgotten combinations or broken parts. I reset the combination. Now I just need to see why the latch mechanism isn't retracting all the way. I've compared it to others but I'm not seeing a difference in wear or setup. I saw how the brass mechanism rises when the handle is turned and the combo is put in and doesn't rise when its not put in. Anyway if you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks for responding!

Tobias Collins Dose it retract the the same amount when you you use the inside lever? Can you switch out the latch on a working unit ans see if that works?

Wayne Winton When i turn the inside lever (or where the lever would attach) it retracts all the way which tells me that it must be in the mechanism itself (the main part that turns with the brass piece and the "post" with the pins in it that insert into the latch mechanism). The long spring on the right side is intact so it returns how its supposed to. All of the "arms" that attach to the center work smoothly. I noticed how the mechanism turns the opposite way when the combo is pushed but just doesn't turn far enough. Maybe I'll have to compare it to a new one I guess.

Yep. If the latch fully retracts on the inside then there is no problem with it so it can be eliminated from the process of elimation. When the lock is completely torn down there is a driving rod with 2 roll pins in it, those pins can bend and or break causing this effect to happen. The roll pins can be replaced.

+Wayne Winton it was almost the same drill points except the 5000 also has two bottom posts you gotta drill for. I asked because I had to convert them all from mortise locks so I had to buy wrap around plates to cover up and flake didn't sell 5000 series plates. You can see on my Google + island lock king I'm following you
