question..is it ok to mount the tire with the deep side of the rim on the clutch ( left side )..because when i mount mine facing the right side ( motor side ) my tire rubs on the spring..bike is 1979 et3.

hey robot, great content, love the channel. Do you ever worry about the rims pinching the inner tube when assembling the two halves together?
@VespaMotorsport4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that can happen easily if you're not careful. That's why we slightly inflate the tube before bolting the rims together. Usually prevents that from happening.

Hi Robot, I have a question about a PX. I’ve soon gonna park my PX for a winter. It’ll be stored in cold but dry garage. What is you advice to do with it before leaving it (maybe I need to take away the battery?) and after the winter? Do I need to clean the carb, like you told about GT 200?

This is for modern Vespas, but the same could be applied to a PX. Hope this helps...studio.kzbin.infoRBzhQ8mGiL0/edit/basic

It's actually nowhere near that easy. I used the old school vintage style tires, because I wanted the right look, and don't ride my Vespa that far from home. I used Ru-Glyde tire mounting lube, and really fought with it. Don't try to bolt the halves together with the tube inflated any more than it was to begin with, it will spread the tire beads farther apart. You have to9 be very careful when trying to force the studs on one wheel half into the holes on the other half far enough to get a nut on the stud. The wheels are made out of very thin, soft steel, and the flange is easily bent. After getting one nut on a couple of turns, I wound up using three small padded C-clamps between the first stud and the second to spread out the pressure on the inner flange so as not to bend it. It took me about an hour to an hour and a half PER WHEEL to get the old tires off (they don't just come right off after deflating the tube, breaking the bead, and removing the 5 nuts, they are really stuck on there) and the new tires back on. If you are using your old wheels, definitely use new split washers. They are one time use only. I actually had 3 -4 of the washers break while removing them. I suggest getting new grade 8 nuts and washers.
