These pumps are great until the pressure vessel has lost its charge. My pump kept cycling on/off for a couple of seconds when not in use. Stuart Turner helpline kept telling me I had a leak, which I didn't. I bet a lot of pumps get replaced as result of this. I keep a bicycle pump in the airing cupboard now. This channel is great and taught me loads. Thank you.

Hi Ray ... leak -mmmmm. I suppose we all think of a leak being a visible flow. I have a jet washer that cycles when not pumping just because over the 30 seconds it is mot pumping 2 drops of water leek past the join . This is is enough to make the motor think the trigger is being pressed , so starts the pump for a fraction of a second. If the toilets in the house let a couple of drops through that could be enough to make your pump - cycle as if there is a leak possibly. I thought the video was good . Only ever thought of pumps being used at a shower . Regards Don.
@raycollington43104 жыл бұрын
@@doncodman913 I agree the video was very good. My comments were meant as a flag that if/when the pressure chamber fitted to the universal pump loses its charge, the pump will cycle. It took a while to work out my the pump was cycling. I couldn't detect a leak in the air chamber but the pressure kept leaking over time. Replacement vessels are cheap and easy to swap. It's just about knowledge and not ending up with the unecessary cost of a new pump.

Stuart Turner Pumps are real quality pieces of Kit, had one of the very popular Plastic pumps in a new rental property which failed within two years but replaced with a Stuart Turner Brass pump no issues from same that new pump same is in there for over eight years... also one can have their pump mechanical seals components replaced if they go south, where as a plumber told the 'Rental Agent' that many of the plastic pumps would seem to either leak into the inside of the workings taking out the electrical side or the P.C.B board's over time just go really toasty after which they would be for , The local Recycling Depot...really great upload...

30 degress max flex of the hoses is correct! Any more and you risk the hose kinking and you lose the anti-vibration properties that help to stop vibration from the pump transmitting down the pipework.

The instructions recommend installing a 30mA RCD. These are available in Screwfix with the same connectivity as a fused spur. Also include the fuse same as the fused spur but swap out the standard 13amp as these pumps run as just over 1 amp (2bar). See instructions tech spec for rating, usually a 3 or 5amp will do. For £15 the RCD a no brainer. Also thise gate valves in the loft will bite you in the a*se. Lever valuve them in the airing cupboard and save a trip into the loft. Great video

James thanks such great videos. It's good to see at least one person who knows what they are doing. I have a problem that you may be able to solve. I have a grant oil fed boiler and I have a Horstmann two channel programmer. I had to move the programmer along the wall so turned off the power. I unclipped the cable trunking to allow the cable to extend to the new position. I removed the front off the programmer and without unwiring anything I got the surface box off and refitted it in the new location. Turned the power back on. The CH and HW red light came on so I thought all was great BUT the boiler switch light was not on. That told me that the white cable that runs from the programmer was not get power. To check that the boiler had not got another issue going on I bypassed the programmer and wired the boiler directly to a power supply and it came on straight away. So I was left knowing that something is preventing power from feeding the boiler cable. I went to the airing cupboard and found the 3 amp fuse in spur that fed the junction box (where all the wires are fed into) had blown so replaced it thinking I could go to bed having solved the problem BUT it hadn't. The boiler is still now recieving power. What is going on?

How can this exact pump also safely fill the toilet without damaging the pump? Assuming the bowl only calls for cold water (not plumbed to the hot side) how does this not shorten or damage the pump when only pumping from cold or hot? Looking at the pdf from ST there is no tick box recommending boosting individual taps. (Which is much the same as filling the toilet)
@DavidJHarrisonEssex3 жыл бұрын
This make was recommended to me. I had two sensor taps in my last property, now they won't work due to gravity fed system in my new property, I phoned the company, was adviced to get a twin impeller 3 or 4 (no more or less) bar of pressure pump which HOLDS 2 bars of pressure (always waiting, ready for taps to be turned on) so there is NO delay in water supply when the sensor is used. I want to get another tap & install a 2nd shower & at leat two more taps later, Concerned it will empty the water supply in my loft BEFORE it can be replaced though. I'm in a no win situation as my two taps cost £500, new pump will be between just under £400 for the 3 bar or just under £500 for the 4 bar option so I may as well get the pump. Opinion?

Looking at fitting this pump shown in your video, our current pump, from what I can tell is quite basic and is on floor level in bathroom cupboard next to the boiler tank and we have a water tank in the loft, obviously we have rubbish water power in our shower, but what I can't understand is why our current shower pump is wired into the hot water timer control unit rather than hard wired or plugged into the wall? Good video fella. Ok... I’m in a house, oil boiler system with the boiler located outside and recently serviced with a new circulation pump being fitted. The main header and F&E tank are in the roof space which have both been recent;y drained, cleaned and re-covered/insulated. The hot water tank/cylinder is located in a back bedroom cupboard and all plumbing is downstairs (shower, bathroom, toilet and kitchen etc, no bath only a double shower. Shower is electric and is great. Pressure in bathroom for both hot and cold water is 100% - no mixer tap yet water pressure in kitchen for cold is 100% but hot water is poor. Outside tap is 100%. Kitchen Tao, which is a mixer was recent;y changed and the end cap filter has been removed to check if this was causing an issue but it is not. Any ideas? Would a pump like this benefit this problem as I can probably pee faster than our hot water in the kitchen. The mixer tap is supposedly suitable for a gravity fed system but the hot water in the kitchen has always been crap. No air locks either and all heating is working great.

In the Summer the the shower has great pressure but because i would say the hot water is struggling to warm the cold up fast enough the pressure in the Winter is terrible. Have you any idea what we can do we cant move the cold water storage tank. The water is freezing at the Thermostatic shower if we turn the hot water off. Would a pump on the hot water help or is it somehow get the cold water warm but then you can cause problems with maybe legionnaires disease. Oil Heating non gas area. Great work but wouldn't it be much better to replace the domestic hot water cylinder for an unvented one and get rid of tank and pipework, so being able to use potable drinking water from any tap? We have water already pressurised by the water company, then we lose its pressure because of the tank and make it unsuitable to drink and then we need a pump to gain back the pressure with our own electricity at our own cost. In NO other country except uk this could take place
