Makes sense, most claim when their 53 died it was hauling a load on a hill. So I’d assume nearly WOT with tons of water pressure. Now I have heard the 53 if it makes it past 100k it’s fine and isn’t going to die.

I got a OBS F350 7.3 IDI that Im now convinced I'm gonna 12 valve swap. Seems worth it for the simple fact that you get more power for little work out of it. It's already manual so that's a win.💪
@michaelbenoit2483 жыл бұрын
I like the 12v, but oof I’d rather get a DT360 than a 53 block. You’ll pay $$$$$$ for your Cummins swap w a 53 block, then have it crack. I’d just rip out the idi, have it rebuilt, then put studs, & a turbo on it. Just a turbo w less than 15lbs of boost will be ok for a stock idi NA idi, the 6.9s can’t handle much more. Anything but a 53 block is good.

Not all 53 blocks are crack-prone, contrary to popular belief. There was more than one Brazilian block foundry, one of them made an error by not casting in a coolant passage strength rib in that area of the block as spelled out by Cummins. Those are the 53 blocks that are crack prone. The problem is, there is no way to tell which block you have until it’s too late.

By shaving 1/8 inch off of the water pump, will that keep your already leaking block from leaking?
@robertmintz633 жыл бұрын
Sam are the water passages through the block so small as to cause that kind of back pressure (60psi) On my 4bt 1989 the Hose connection for the heater comes of the back drivers side of the block, & returns close to the lower rad hose dropping from 60 close to the pump to 13 for the heater seems a bit excessive ??

I have an 02' 2500 that I've been trying to figure out what block it is. On the driver's side of the block at the bottom (under the large wiring harness) it just has a series of numbers that end with B2A1M. It doesn't have a 53, 55 or 56 stamped in big numbers. Does this mean that it's a Mexican block?
@VMac8223 жыл бұрын
Yes, youare lucky. The Mexican blocks are the most desireable. Not only are there no cracking issues, but they have higher nickel content which makes the cylinders harder and wear at a slower rate.
@mannymx512 жыл бұрын
@@VMac822 oh wow. Is this for real? Looking to buy a truck with the 53 block, tag on truck says it was made in Mexico 🤔. This is on a Ford F800 1999 5.9 24v 122k mi
@VMac8222 жыл бұрын
@@mannymx51 so It matters where the engine is made, not the truck. All 53 block engines are cast in Brazil. The Mexican blocks do not have large “53” or 55 or wjatever cast into them, there are only a few small numbers in that spot on the lower side of the front of the block on the driver’s side. You should be fine with that 53 block, it’s not a large percentage of them that fail. Got 277,000 on my 53.
@mannymx512 жыл бұрын
@@VMac822 Thanks for the input brother. I appreciate your time. I am also thinking that it should have cracked by now. After reading on forums, alot of blocks were cracking by 2004-2005. So it may be on the safe side now
