one of the best discussions I've seen about head motion from a fellow pro … I always hear about David Duval and Annika as exceptions to " keeping your head down " but really as I'm sure you know as well they are just really good at controlling body posture ( butt , knees) or as you mention spine angle during their swings and that allows for early head rotation to look at the target

I got caught up with a one-piece takeaway/wide backswing and didn't realize I was keeping my shoulders too flat and my backswing was pulling me away from the ball. Instant fix! Thank Clay!

Do you have a drill or concept to keep from leading or lunging with the head? Once a strong 4 hdcp when I was younger, but life got in the way of golf. I now have time to get it back, unfortunately I'm older & less flexible so when I look for swing speed my natural tendency is to lunge head & shoulders forward throwing me over the top. This happens sporadically and I compensate,, but whatever I'm doing to compensate makes my back/hips really sore the day after a range session! It's been maddening to be aware of my swing fault but not fix it, yet.. Any ideas?

High handicapper here but seem to be improving. I have a long swing. What I noticed recently is if I look through the bottom of my glasses/ down my nose a bit then my shoulder seems to go much easier under my chin. Before I was catching my chin on my left shoulder and my body and head were moving to right leading to lots of fat shots. I am now hitting it better but flipping. My shoulders do look a little flat on backswing. What are your thoughts on chin up position (which is actually neutral I think .....neutral to spine ) ? Eventually plan to get lessons but a hassle at moment with pandemic. Also need to get a tripod to record my swing at better angles Thanks

Hey Thomas, yeah, that's definitely fine to allow your shoulder to go under you're chin. That's much better than your eyes moving everywhere. Makes it much easier to hit the ball. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Should your shoulders be tilted down as much with a driver as with irons?

The shoulder plane won't be as steep with a driver because you stand more upright due to the club being so much longer than the others. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Hi Clay don’t you think eye/hand coordination plays the most important role in our golf swing? As far as I am concerned I see my Big Blur Golf Swing traveling in a straight line between my ears in the direction I want my golf ball to travel. My swing seems to take care of itself. As far as David Duval goes he must have a third eye I am not aware of. HaHa Cheers

I like the video but am very disappointed with the title. When you say "keep your head down" most golfers will bend their neck down and their chin will be on their chest. From that point their left shoulder will push their head off the ball in the back swing. Perhaps a better title for this video would have been, "the correct position of the head in the swing" or "how head position affects you swing". Everything else in the video is spot on. Thanks for the video Clay.
