As a designer-architect we learned to spread the lights the same way as you described it. For my opinion it is the most beautiful, rational and logical way of doing lights. If you spread your lights further than the middle can be dark as well. Good job Joel.

Why can’t all workers be as diligent and caring in their work as you, Joel. It is so enjoyable to watch you as a worker and as a positive family and neighborly guy! ❤

I know, I saw that video and loved your family!! Love the support all the son-in-laws do to help!! So sweet!! I believe my first video was of Jennifer Griffith making bread from her pans she got as a college student from her mama. Then one video after another I became a subscriber to the whole family!! 😂📹😊❤️

While house hunting, I have seen many houses with dark edges in the rooms because they divided by 4 like you said not to do. I'll definitely remember this for when we build/buy. Thanks for all the great advice and instructions!

quick tip: when picking up your lights, make sure the 4 mounting nails and set screw are still there...they do fall out during shipping. Yes, you can use drywall nails, or sheet metal screws but it's so much easier to use the ones that should be included. If you don't check, don't worry; you'll only make that mistake once.

I live in WV and would LOVE for you to come to my house and finish one of my tasks! It would be hard for me to figure out which one cause my house is a big mess lol I don't even have a washer and dryer. Let me tell you... with 2 kids and a husband, that is ROUGH! Love yours and Bonnie's videos!

My husband put in new construction can lights in our basement sometime ago and replaced all the which where just a few florescent lights. Made such a difference! Of course our basement is still completely opened. When we had a contractor at our home a couple years ago redoing our kitchen we wanted can lights but they would not be new construction. We never had the ceiling drywall removed. It still needs done. We do have a chandelier above our kitchen table and an Led light bar above our island. However, a few can lights would be better than track lighting.

Will all of the children bedrooms have the same out of lights? 4 bedrooms with that many lights that’s a lot.

When you have 6 and than a 7 you round it up to 7...when you have 4 and under you round it down...but it might be different when you build houses. I'm excited over when the house will be done...it already has a WOW factor..

There is a better way Divide the length of the area by twice the number of lights. This will be the distance from the wall to the can, then times by two, and that will get your spacing from can to can. Still what you came up with just might make it easier. 140”\6=23” 5/16 23” 5/16X2=46”11/16

I have a room 143" x 151 1/2", I am using 4" cans and have a height of 7'2". Would rows of 3 cans be enough or should I go 4 cans since they are only 4". By using your math my lights would be 47" apart, seems kind of far for a 4" light.
@TodaysTask

What's going on with the framing of the windows? It looks like the header and Jack's studs are sitting on the bottom of the window plate.

So, late to your video;( as I've alreadyt roughed in my house... Wanting to charge up the can lights before sheetrock so I can verify the room light and accomodate as necessary. I have a room that's 15' 11" x 12'1" - I centered a fan and equally distanced (4) 4" cans around the corner- Would you reccomend using your layout in my circumstance? How do you know you had to do 3 across? I'm sure you have much history that tells you, but I want to get it right so I don't have to try and add after sheetrock. Oh- and I have 8' ceilings and its a bedroom for what its worth... I'm frozen- HELP! I also have a very large open room which is 17'9 x 27' - how do you determine how many for this space? 8' ceilings again
@TodaysTask
@TodaysTask 8 ай бұрын
I would add a third light to each side of the first room. On the second room I would try for at least 5 lights on the 27’ length and 4 on the 17’ length. You can always run two light circuits so the corners are on one and all the rest on the other. My rule is you can always turn lights off if it’s too bright but you can’t add them after the fact.

Yes, you use the same math but I always add one more when using 4” cans because the light is smaller.
