I’ve been attempting double unders for the past 3 years; was always inconsistent because I whipped myself so much that I always ended up giving up. I have a competition coming up and DU’s are a requirement so I set my mind that I need to learn doing them. I came across this video when I was at a point where I was about to give up. I followed the steps exactly as instructed and I admit that I got stuck a bit in the last part (1 single, 1 double). BUT today I attempted in stringing double unders together and I managed 17 unbroken!!! Point is, follow the instructions of this video because it DOES work. THANKYOU! So happy with my little win 🎉

I have trouble at the first part, 200 single unders in a row. I almost always mess up by 40, and I'd be really happy with 90. Nonetheless, it seems possible that many can be done in succession, but with bad form. This reminds me to make videos of myself. Note: I sometimes succeed with double unders, but the form is more like the way he says _not_ to do it. I think working on the power jump stage will really help.
@acook2132 күн бұрын
@@jlfelber1yeah 200 singles in a row is A LOT, just from a conditioning / endurance perspective. After I got about 50 singles in a row, I moved on to the power jump stage, and that helped a lot.
@miyulens68596 жыл бұрын
steps to du : 1. do single under 200 reps straight , body stay engaged and tight , use wrist to turn the rope. 2. Do power jump 3.Do 3 single jump +1 double under ( 50 reps) 4.Do 1 single + 1 double (50 reps) 5.Do consecutive double under (start with 2 du, and then move on to 3 du ..and so on )

this is probably the best online video to achieve double unders from zero...very good progression...top drawer method of nailing them. power jump then 3 single 1 double...2 single 1 double etc ...and a decent amount of reps before progressing ...very good advice to calm the student down and get them focussed on each progression...and MOST IMPORTANTLY ...learning to double under and maintain form.

Hey man, your video is very cool. Best double under tutorial I've found! I've been training for a few weeks now with your system, started doing 2 regular jumps then power jump on the 3rd cycle. I was a bit impatient and kinda moved to doing actual double unders between every 2nd or 3rd single. I've bought a speed rope metal cable and found that helps, yesterday successfully did 21 doubles with single unders in between as you recommend. I'm still jumping a bit high but find it helps to skip in front of a mirror so you can see your technique. My goal is to do consecutive double unders for a full minute!

Hi, I just started crossfit a few months ago, we don't do much rope jumping. Now that 17.1 is coming up, we started to work a few things, like DU, of course, I can get one in once in a long while. After watching the video, I think I better start with doing singles. I'll start on it tomorrow and see... Actually, it's after midnight, so, it'll be later today. Thanks for the video. Now I have something to work on, and definitely record myself and check for form.

Thanks for asking. After the video, I actually went to the gym and tried it out. Got some results, except, I had previously injured my elbow, and that aggravated it, so I stopped, especially the open was going on at that time. Right now I am still working on singles. For Women 60+ scaled division, DU is more a luxury item. I figure I better work on my wall balls(I am still at 6 lb wall ball), jumping chest to bar---no clue on that one yet.

When I start I focus on a spot just above parallel but my body turns to the left as i do them. Excellent tutorial but I'm kind of stuck. I can do a couple of hundred singles in good form and I can do the jump, jump, jump, explode part. I just can't flick my wrists fast enough to move the rope around twice while I'm doing the higher jump. Do you have any tips and/or progressions for that? Thanks.
@paradisocrossfit19 жыл бұрын
+TheMerryPup No worries! Here are a couple ideas in order of how I would approach it: 1. Work on performing your singles faster. Try to get 150 singles or more in 60 seconds. This is hard to do if you are not using your wrists properly with a shorter rope. If you are way off, this could be a sign of needing to fix one of those two things. 2. If step 1 is in order, really focus on the sensation of two flicks of the wrist. Practice without a rope and say in your head as you do it, "one, two...one, two" and really focus on what that feels like. When you move to practice with the rope you need to feel that speed in your wrists and speed on the rope. You should hear the rope whirring as you go. Don't worry if you don't accomplish the rep, just get that feeling and speed on the rope and then you will start to connect it with your jumps I promise. 3. If that drill is still not working, something that works for some people, although it feels weird is to try a double without doing any singles beforehand. Just from a dead stop, try to do a double under. Don't worry about linking them, again, this is just to feel the rope speed. This works because many people miss due to the anticipation of performing the double. Let me know how it goes!:)

I practiced this so much, I can do as many single unders, power jumps etc... with good form as I want. And I still cannot get myself to do even one double under. Every time I attempt it, the second rope swing hits my feet, while I am still in the air. What can I do?
@paradisocrossfit17 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you are still struggling, here are a few additional tips: The most likely thing happening is that your arms are moving away from your body, which causes the rope to hit the feet as it shortens the length of the rope around your body. This can be hard to "feel" when you are performing the movement, so I tell people to film themselves and see whats happening. If this is the case, first, be sure that you are practicing your singles properly with the proper length rope and second, prioritize your mental focus on your hand location when you go for the double. If you still struggle with it, some people will take an assistance band and wrap it around their arms to physically hold their arms in to practice and reinforce what that position feels like. The other option is that you aren't spinning the rope fast enough. I tell people, you should be able to hear the rope as it whips through the air. This is potentially the most challenging aspect of the double under to learn, as the speed comes from the timing of your arms into the flicking of your wrists. If people are struggling with this going from doing singles, I will have them try a double right away, with no singles before. Just try to go right into a double whipping the rope fast so you can get a feel of the speed. Hope some of this helps, let me know how it goes!

@paradisocrossfit16 жыл бұрын
Its always hard to say whats going on without seeing it, but if you can do one, thats a good sign. One of the things I recommend for any "complex" movement is to video tape yourself. It allows you to see whats going on when you achieve the movement vs when you mess up. We often see people that can pull off doubles with poor form for a few reps, for example, with the arms out to the side, tucking the knees, dropping the chest, jumping really high, etc. As we recommend in the video, prioritize reinforcing a quality position, with a tall body position, elbow by your side and using your wrists and then build from there. Let me know how it goes!

Here are two quick tips: 1. Hold both ends of the jump rope in one hand, without jumping or moving your arm, just work on swinging the jumprope around. Its kind of awkward, but can be good training for the wrists. 2. If you don't mind spending a couple bucks, this is a great product for training the wrists: jumpnrope.com/product/speed-balls/ Good luck and let me know how it goes!:)

So I'd say I have double unders down at this point and can do sets of 50. It gets to be crazy challenging though when you're doing it for so many sets and at that point I'm just gassed.

i started skipping rope from the last 3 days. Rn my calves and ankles are sore and also my core muscles. Im just able to do 200 skips but I think with consistency I'll be able to do more than 500 skips a day with double unders

My jump rope always hits the ground while im jumping rope is it long for my height or length of my ripe?
@paradisocrossfit16 жыл бұрын
Its ok and common for the rope to kiss the ground at the bottom, but if an excessive amount of the rope is hitting the ground it is likely too long.
