Imma chime in because I feel like there could've been a lot more information. 1. so first a lot of people suggest you get a gun trust this allows you to have multiple people be able to own the suppressor you buy/pass it on to your kids, etc. But you don't need to have one to buy NFA items like suppressors 2. you need to submit 2 passport photos and a set of fingerprints, you can do it through a silencerco kiosk like the one you saw in the video, but not all gun stores got those. so you might have to submit them through the shop through a paper form 4. 3. On Dec 23 2021 ATF rolled out eforms for submitting your nfa paperwork online - they estimate 90 day approval instead of previous 8+ months, at the moment no one has been approved yet due to backlog of all the forms waiting approval and it still hasn't hit the 90 days yet. I heard a rumor that someone was able to get theirs done in a month but the shop that was holding on to the can had to contact atf to expedite the request because they were going out of business so who knows. 4. You will need to pay a $200 NFA tax stamp, they usually cash that check well in advance of you actually picking up your can + however much the can costs. 5. wait months for the approval and then go pick up the can. 6. Do all the other stuff 2gunz mentioned 7. Additional note, you can technically form 1 a solvent trap into a suppressor which usually has a much shorter waiting time (couple of weeks vs couple of months) but just last week ATF denied a shit load of those requests because theyve considered solvent traps to be actual suppressors (i know bullshit right) plus if you form 1 anything, you have to go and get it engraved. I probably missed some details, but those are the main points

So paying 200 dollars, filling out a bunch of paperwork and doing a ton of waiting makes the suppressor safe? I mean, they are so bad that nobody should have them, then why does paying a tax and filling out paperwork change that? I suppose theoretically the ATF knows where that particular item is located, but that’s only speculative because items aren’t in a fixed location in space. That thing could be anywhere. It just seems so arbitrary and ridiculous to me. I’m glad you got your can, but it’s so much time and money. Not to mention getting a permission slip from the government to have it. I assume that gives them the right to come in wherever the registered location is and inspect it whenever they want. Great video though because it lets people know that they can actually buy stuff like that if you want to deal with all the baggage that comes with a purchase like that.
