Great video! Thanks for this. About the only things I did different in the rear (I'm not 100% sure it helps) was to loosen the bolt on the front of the torque arm (the three bolt plate in the front) before I took everything else apart and I also loosen the bolt closest to the center of the car on the lower rear control arm. Basically, like the sway bar, all the bushings are "set" in the position they've been living in over their lives. Loosening the hardware makes it easier for everything to move around.

Great tip! You know more about it than I do, so I'm sure it helped give a little more wiggle room to work and get the parts in there. Also, cool that you found this video!

THANK YOU! I'm lowering my awd & for the life of me couldn't get the spring out. This video is what I needed to see. There really is very little info on these AWD rear suspensions.

Wow, that's awesome! I'm glad I was able to help you out. I'm surprised by the lack of info seeing as almost every other piece of the P80 chassis is covered somewhere. I'll say that when I did it the 2nd time this summer, it was much faster and easier.

Thanks for your video, I'm from Argentina, here getting volvo spare parts is almost impossible and I have a 98 v70 awd with suspension problems. I tried to solve some of the problem but I was never able to remove the spring completely, it is not an easy job, when I watch your video I regain hope to attack the problem again. Many greetings and thanks again.

I'm glad this helped! In doing the lift it seemed like there was a real lack of information about the unique rear setup of the AWD models. I'm debating doing a video covering just that. I'm sorry about the trouble finding parts. There are some times I've had to order through a dealer and the part comes directly from sweden. It's not the cheapest option, but when it's the only option you don't have much of a choice!

Great info! Im thinking of lifting my p2 xc70. I know its a different platform, but the front suspension looks almost identical. How is the drivetrain feeling after a year? No issues with cv joints?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage Жыл бұрын
I know websites like Cross Country Performance offer similar spacers to lift the front struts, but they also offer subframe spacers. Going with subframe spacers would correct any geometry changes with the CV axles from taller ride height. I think that at full lock I get a little click from the driver side CV axle, but I really only notice that if I'm pulling into a parking spot or something similar. Other than that no issues with boots, vibrations, or other signs of a bad axle.
@11guyinthechair

@@StevesGarage will have to check it out. Subframe spacers are out of question. Cant pass inspection with those.
@StevesGarage

@@11guyinthechair Ohhh, that's too bad. There's a ton of info out there for the P2s, I think if you do a small suspension lift you'll be totally fine.

I would thought the nivomat would compensare for this longer spring and not work as much. Is there no thing to longer the nivomat to keep it in aneew equilibrium?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage 6 ай бұрын
The only way you're going to lengthen a shock is cutting and welding it. I haven't had an issue with this setup or my updated taller one.

Cool vid. One question; you didn't have to readjust the camber on the wheels with that lift?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage Жыл бұрын
For this lift, no. The larger lift I did in the 2nd video is probably the max you can go without adjustment as I started getting a bit of positive camber.

What does doing this do for the ride quality?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage 11 ай бұрын
I honestly didn't notice a difference. Even with the more extreme lift I did in the other video, you wouldn't know you're riding in a lifted vehicle. I've taken it on multiple road trips since the lift and have zero complaints.

I didn't notice a difference. I'm sure it went down a bit with the lift and tires, but nothing noticeable with how I drive the car.

What size tires are you running in the vid?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage Жыл бұрын
205/70R15. I don't think you'd be able to run a larger tire without rubbing, especially the rear. There is very little clearance at the front of the wheel well.

Are you also familiar with mounting larger springs?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage 3 жыл бұрын
On this car, no. The guy who lifted his more put spacers above the rear springs, and then coilovers in the front, and maxed out their height. I know on cars like a VW Golf you can put Tiguan springs in to raise it, but to my knowledge there isn't an easy swap like that for these cars.
@Luke_NorseSpeed
@Luke_NorseSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
@@StevesGarage I've seen that you can swap taller springs for p2 chassis XC's but haven't seen any for p80 cars. As far as I'm aware, the only way to lift p80 cars is to use spacers like this, swap in coilovers with taller springs, or a combo of the 2. Where'd you get the spacers from btw?
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@Luke_NorseSpeed That's correct! The P80 XCs have the tallest suspension setup, so as far as stealing parts from other P80 cars go, you're not getting anything taller. The spacers are from Atomdd on instagram, though I believe some other sites sell them as well. You have to use a combo of the two because even with coilovers on the front, you still need spacers for the rear, as well as relocating the nivomat shocks.

Hi i am planning on replacing springs and shocks on my V70 XC from 2000 (same chassi as you have). Do you know if there are any options for springs that keep the ride height at stock while using normal shocks, not the nivomatic that come stock on the v70 xc? Also, i assume you use the stock nivomatic and springs rear. Is the suspension bouncy or harsh or anything? how is it? /Lucas
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
The AWD rear suspension is unique to the AWD cars, so you have to use nivomats in the rear. As far as ride quality is concerned, it's no different than stock.
