Love your videos 🤩. Have a ‘06 Volvo XC90 T5 myself. Volvo has «black holes» in service routines as «optional». So if customer does not Ask for these options they will never be done: oilchange for transmission, servo, break fluid, coolant haldex (oil filter oil and haldex pump) so when you serve the Haldex, clean with electric cleaner aerosol inside the haldex electric pump motor. Al lot of black Carbon dust from the worn brushes. Check the brushes also if they are in need of replacement. I can see the Volvo has a towing connection. Check if the transmission got an extra external oil cooler for the transmission before use the car for towing heavy trailers. The original cooler for transmission is a liquid to liquid exhange cooler in the sump of the motor, and that is just not enough delta T for towing heavy trailer, or active sporty driving going through the gears all the time. Greeting from Oslo Norway

@@schrodingerscat8621Yes, when you drive it with alot of low end exeleration especially 0-60 pulls the torque can destroy the anglegear, but it happens more on manual cars because of torque spikes. Also the automatic cars had less torque over all (Automatic:350nm/Manual 400nm).

I had a 03 Flash Green V70R that I bought new in Germany when I was stationed there. I was supposed to pick it up from the factory in Sweden, but the Iraq War began and I was deployed overseas. When I got back, the car was at my local Volvo dealership, and myself, and the dealership employees were very impressed with the R. I modded the R pretty extensively, to include chipping the ECU. My base was near the Nurburgring racetrack, so I ran some laps there. In Germany I frequently drove on the autobahn, hitting the 155 speed limiter several times a week. My family and I returned to the US in 05, and as much as I loved the car, I ended up selling it. Driving in the US was frustrating, as the speed limits are low, and drivers hang out in the left lane, unlike Europe. Also, gas was $4 a gallon, and the chipped motor required hi-test. Also, the US roads are poorly maintained, so my lowered springs didn't help matters. Love your video! Brings back great R memories.

From what I know, these Haldex AWD systems don't receive the maintenance they require. What ends up happening is that the oil filter of the Haldex unit gets clogged, and it can't build up enough pressure. (The more power you send through the rear wheel, the more oil pressure is needed to engage the clutch). It senses that low oil pressure and cuts off the AWD completely to prevent burning up the clutch. An oil service is neither easy nor hard but is needed for proper operation and longevity. I hope this helps :)

Always loved V70s but never owned one, because lack of power and no AWD. Didn`t know that the R version exists and now I figured out that they are quite rare over here in Germany. And somewhat expensive. But there are some nice ones in the US... Looks like a V70 R will be one of my next projects... Cheers, Chris

Change the Haldex oil , then run it for a month , then change it again. Especially if you cannot see when the last time was. I drove an ex Police one in the UK . Phenomenal, it was made to Volvo cop specification which has quite a few suspension upgrades. Kept up with virtually everything on the roads and handlingwas great the correct tires. I am told the Police were disappointed when they no longer had them .

Our family has a powerful 10-valve ``torque monster'' V70 Mk1 freethrottle and V70 Mk2 Bifuel and V70 AFV 2.5. Bifuel. We 330,000km/17 years. All good but MK1 DAS Auto in old union guys but this Mk 2 is a really good car of course. Very quiet and pleasant to drive. In addition, a very handsome cart from which, with a little tweaking, you can get a very neat ``horse'', just like you car it. Really nice and not terribly expensive and you can get all the parts at a reasonable price. At least in the 2006 model, the throttle valve is problematic after about 200,000, i.e. replaceable. I don't know if the issue has been addressed in any model year in the model history of the car. If the radiator is original, I recommend replacing it or at least testing the cooling system because the oil in the automatic transmission runs in the radiator and the transmission oil can mix with the coolant because they are in the same housing, which destroys the gearbox. Good video!

These Haldex systems are often overlooked when it comes to service. I have an 9-3 Aero XWD, which is Haldex Gen 4 and the most common thing that leads to failure is no one ever changes the diff fluid and filter. In my experience, as long as it's serviced to schedule, it can last. In fact, the Volvo fluid is an OE replacement for the Haldex system used in the 9-3 and NG 9-5.

I wish your videos were around 2 years ago when I was going through the same journey. Having just finished a fairly significant overhaul of the front and rear suspension, you’re in for a treat when that’s done. I’d highly recommend the sub frame inserts on the front. One of the best mods on mine for about £25, which made a big difference to the front end feel.

Nice work with the transmission fluid change and the TCM adaptation! As for the all-wheel drive coming back when you cleared the code(s), this will give you a chance to start fresh in pinning down whatever triggered the code in the first place. The pressure sensor is mounted on the DEM, as is the AOC solenoid. There is also a pump plugged into the DEM that mounts to the AOC. Keep an eye out for any DEM related codes that reappear, because when that pump begins to die, it often kills the DEM along with it. If the pump is failing, you'll want to replace it before that happens. You're probably already familiar with Swedespeed. The R Forum has a wealth of accumulated knowledge on these cars. Congratulations on getting this one for such a great price!

A trick for those stuck aluminum drain plug washers is to use some side cutters and cut towards the center. You likely won't be able to cut through it, just deform it a bit, but if you do this in a few spots what happens is the washer actually increases in diameter a bit from being deformed then you can just pull it off or unthread it like you did.

I bought my first volvo almost a year ago. 2001 xc70 2.4t manual. Gotta say, Had my opinions all over the place, since I bought it really let down. I changed all the shocks, brakes, pads, oils, plugs, PCV, got a decent set of memory heated seats and door cards. Did a lot of stuff to make it great again. not quite there yet. But it surely is a comfortable and capable car. I had my priorities, I needed a van, that sits high, has a good petrol engine, and doesnt rust. Volvo came to rescue. Since i live in a country where salt covers the roads for atleast 5 months a year, cars really take a beating. But im really starting to fall in love with the car, Every car I own I become highly educated on the inner workings of it, I have to, since I fix my cars myself. Anyways, Its a great car, even though sometimes makes you wanna burn it to the ground.

If you wanna do it perfect, replace the filter for the Haldex as well. That can be somewhat of a challenge (At least with my D5) but it is worth it. I subscribed 🙂

Nice work! Will say for others though, when doing ATF on an older car with no history on a transmission you intend to keep, it’s best to just put in as much as you take out and leave it. Flushing, as you know, is dangerous in some older ones because the newer fluid will have a fresher detergent and will knock loose dirt into the fluid channels, causing a failure. By only draining and filling once you leave enough old fluid in there that it won’t hurt anything.
