Please do not lower by fully opening the lever. The device is now unlocked and you've removed all of the assistance the device provides, meaning if for any reason the break hand is removed from the rope, that climber might die. There are tons of reasons including distraction, rope burn, or even something falling from above and incapacitating the belayer. Instead, adjust the angle until the climber is descending at a safe and comfortable rate.

True. Since a few years there's a GriGri+ which even prevents you from opening the GriGri fully and instead breaks again, a safety feature for example in case of the belayer panicking and pulling the handle all the way back

You never ever ever ever ever assume the climber has weighted the rope.
