so my mattress was 52 x 27 x 6... so if you add 52 + 6 (length plus depth) then add 9-10 inches to allow for the casing and wrapping under the mattress. So your length + depth and add 9-10 inches and do the same for width + depth - does that make sense?

Was thinking that if the square on the corners were not so big, then maybe to save on elastic I could just add it to the corners and hem the straight edges. My crib matress is a standard size so no extra fabric would be wasted. I just needed the basic idea and this helped. Thanks.

Thank you so much! Yes, that's Ikea for ya, Euro measurements. Its a cute bed and mattress that starts as a toddler bed then can extend into a Twin bed. I have sheets but they're plain white, :( nothing fancy and girlie for sure. And yes, it made sense. So, I need to find some fabric at least 58 inches wide. On the quest again. Thank you, thank you, thank you again!

Anything larger than a crib sheet would be tricky, because you don't want to have a seam on your sheet. The width of fabric is just not wide enough for those mattress sizes and sheeting like that may be hard to find. I would buy a simple sheet set and make some customized blankets, quilts and pillow cases for you daughters. Hope that helps!

then add another strip of fabric to both sides that is equal to the depth of your mattress plus 1'' for seam allowances (using 1/2'' seam allowances) then cut a square out of the corner that is equal to the depth of your mattress plus 1/2" - hopefully this helps

@janetgrundy966710 жыл бұрын
How much elastic do you need
@sewobsessedmama10 жыл бұрын
a twin would require the depth of the mattress plus the casing allowance plus the width of your mattress - that said most home decor fabric is 60" wide - you can get some home dec fabric in 120" wide but they won't e as soft as quilters cotton which is usually around 45'' wide. a twin is usually 39" wide x 75'' long. so you'd have to piece fabric together. you wouldn't like seam in the middle so you want to cut 39" plus seam allowance (40" with 1/2" seam allowance on both sides

Hi, I love your tutorial! So I am determined to make crib sheets for my baby boy due in Sept. I bought fabric, I made the mistake of not measuring it before, and after I washed and dried it it measures 38 inches wide. It is plenty long. I'm wondering fi there is any way that I can make it work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hmmm, you might be able to make it work! Use as small amount as possible for the elastic casing... and you won't have as much going down under the mattress. You could try it though!

Melanie, when making the crib sheet how do you measure to customize for different size mattresses? I have a small vintage bed my daughter is using for newborn pictures. I cut 2 pieces of foam to fit the bed measuring 21 x 16 x 4 (deep). Using ur standard crib measurements I guessed & came up with 36 x 34 x 6 inch corner squares. I just completed steps to the corners & about to make the seam allowance for the elastic. Am I correct with my measurements or do you have a better way to measure?

@MelanieHam9 жыл бұрын
lalathestylist it really needs to be wider ;( I would suggest using that fabric in other ways like curtains, changing pad cover, pillows, quilt/blankets... etc
@danihu039 жыл бұрын
My sister bought to short of fabric, only 1.5 yards. I.m just gonna cut it down on the ends minus the 7.5 inches on the ends and add and 8.5 inch piece on both ends to make up the difference and not waste the fabric. You could do the same on the long ends. You just need to do a little calculating depending on how big of seams you use.
@MariaCruz-gl8tz8 жыл бұрын
you can add a border along the sides, equal width on both sides to obtain the needed width. So if you use a print for the actual top of the mattress try using a print to create the look of a border. in that case..I would do it to all 4 sides. Simply cut your 41" fabric to fit the top of the mattress plus seam allowance... 1/4 to 1 half inch... then for your borders, cut strips wide enough to allow for the thickness of your mattress plus about 2 1/4 to 3 1/4 inch to allow for seam allowance, coverage and elastic casing. after you sew your border to all 4 sides, trim your squares in the corners like in the video and complete like in the video. Really simple...

What's the process for round bedding? My sister went and got a round crib for her baby but the round bedding is very expensive. Was thinking maybe I can make her some instead
@MelanieHam10 жыл бұрын
The thing about round bedding is finding fabric that has the width you need... easy to find cotton fabric is usually 42-45 inches wide. I know you can get decorating weight fabric and knits in a wider width, but that is the challenge for that type of project!
@karenjohnson655010 жыл бұрын
Search for quilt backing fabric. That usually comes in 108". Probably won't find many cutsie prints though as backing fabric tends to be pretty basic.
@ruthhurley80010 жыл бұрын
You could piece together two widths, using a French seam even t make it strong. Then cut out your circle.

@mrsrowland05059 жыл бұрын
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I got my daughter's toddler bed and mattress from Ikea. I brought fabric and I don't think its wide enough to cut the corners. The mattress measurements are 38in Wide, 47.5in Long and 7.5in Depth. My fabric is 45 inches wide, I don't know if I should even wash the fabric and attempt to sew it or should I just exchange it. Thank you in advance! #fingerscrossed
@MelanieHam9 жыл бұрын
mrsrowland0505 Wow, those are strange crib measurements! 45 inches wide won't be wide enough ;( Do they sell crib sheets to fit that? You might need to buy one, because even if you got a width of 54... 38 + 7.5 +7.5 and enough to go under the mattress and the casing for the elastic is more like 58. Does that make sense how I did that math?
@PattyV9 жыл бұрын
mrsrowland0505 Just add strips of matching, or color coordinating, fabric to each side. Measure the top of the mattress + add 1" to the length & 1" to the width. The extra inch will leave you enough room for a half inch seam allowance on each side. Cut your main fabric to this size. Then measure the depth of the mattress + however much room you need for the casing + 1/2" , for the seam allowance. Cut your matching, or coordinating fabric this size, for the sides.
