My ideal X-men introduction: After the events of Avengers 4, the excessive use of Infinity Stones has awoken a latent X-gene in 1% of the population. Infinity Stones awakening this gene isn't new; it's happened with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and it happened when a Canadian Soldier was exposed to the tesseract in WWII. However, it has never been this widespread, and because the awakening was so sudden, many people cannot control their powers, leading to a fear and distrust. Renowned geneticist and teacher Charles Xavier has developed powers, and when people find out he can tamper with minds, they take all their children out of his school, leaving only two students, Jean Grey and Scott Summers. Xavier decides to transform his school into a haven for mutants, and sends Scott and Jean to recruit several mutants: Piotr Rasputin, Ororo Munroe, and Henry McCoy. The last person on the list is Bobby Drake. However, a man named Nathaniel Essex has already recruited Bobby in the guise of providing safety, but instead performed experiments on him in an attempt to recreate his powers. The X-men try to save Bobby but fail, and Henry McCoy is captured and experimented on, resulting in a blue hairy form. After regrouping and building up their power, the X-men attack and defeat Essex. The next film will feature Magneto and his disciples, Wolverine, Shadowcat, and Nightcrawler.

Iceman, instead of Gambit working for Sinister? 0/10 Also Sinister not focusing 100% of his attention on Scott and Jean? Not bloody likely. Rest is actually ok. Reality stone has already created two pseudo mutants as you said. Could easily create/awaken the dormant genes in others. Also Janet Pym is a mutant/is supposed to be, must add things involving the Pyms (Hank not actually inventing shrinking tech, but reverse engineering it from his mutant gf, or something)... Could also probably alter genetics from the quantum realm, probably.

I like the shield idea. Shield has kept too many secrets. When Fury asks Tony Starks: "Does he thinks he's the only one"? That was only but a fraction of what Fury truly knows. The Inhumans we learned about, but there are the Eternals, the Deviants and of course The Mutants. Sheild, Fury and the government have a lot of explaining to do.

I think they need to step away from the "everyone hates mutants" plot a bit. Prejudice against mutants should still be a big issue but it shouldn't be the main focus of every movie. Because there are tons of X-Men stories that aren't focused around that.

He mentions a younger Tim Olyphant; honestly, I still think James Marsden would've fucking *killed* it had they actually given him a good script. From what I've seen him in since, I don't see any reason why he couldn't have resonated with fans similar to how Chris Evans was so satisfying as Cap; Marsden has shown that not only is he a really good actor ("Westworld"), but also that he can be really fun and charming ("Enchanted" and "Walk of Shame") and funny too (his role in "Sex Drive" was fucking *great*, although he was also really good in "Death at a Funeral"). I'm disappointed that he'll never be given the opportunity to be as good of a Cyclops as I know he could've been.

I hear a lot of people come up with crazy theories as to how the X-Men should be integrated into the MCU, ranging from reality warping with the Infinity Gauntlet to inter-dimensional travel. Personally, I'd like for the X-Men to be introduced into the MCU in a similar way to how Doctor Strange or Black Panther were introduced in which they've just always been there.

Here’s my idea. Pre-“Infinity War”: Mutants already existed. They were extremely rare. More rare than people with albinism. Charles Xavier and James “Logan” Howlett already existed. Post-“Endgame”: The multiple uses of the Infinity Gauntlet has ripped several holes in the Multiverse, creating mutants out of already existing 616 inhabitants, as well as displacing mutants from other versions of Earth. The latter includes Magneto, who’s from an Earth that’s several decades behind us. He’s still a Holocaust survivor. That way he could keep his traumatic backstory , and would explain his age in relation to Charles, who in this iteration would be in his late 50’s. We’ll refer to the disruption in the Multiverse as... well, “The Disruption”. The Disruption would also explain some future X-Men discovering their powers. Like Rogue. She’s getting dropped off at college. She started feeling strange that morning, but her parents chalked it up to nerves. She and her mom embrace outside of her dorm and say their goodbyes. All of a sudden, her mom goes limp. Rogue has accidentally drained most of her mom’s energy, nearly killing her. It would also give origins to villains. The Disruption also unites the X-Men. They were all displaced from different Earths. The lineup for the first movie would be the original five; Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Their costumes would be a modern update to the blue & gold from their first run, masks and all(they’d look more like Captain America’s suit in the first Avengers movie). They’d get their Animated Series costumes in the sequel. But I would introduce them in a different movie. That movie would be a stand-alone Hulk film, featuring(not *starring*) Wolverine. In the post-credits scene, Logan leaves Canada (where the Hulk film would take place) and heads for the US, more specifically, southeast New York. He pulls his motorcycle up to a wrought iron fence and hits a button. Inside the building at the end of the lane, a young man(soon to be revealed as Iceman) gleefully hits a button to open the large gate. As Logan drives down the path, Iceman is inside banging on everybody’s door shouting “He’s here! He’s back!” Logan parks the bike and walks to the front door. Just as he reaches out, it opens. He walks inside and is greeted by Charles and the X-Men. Logan and Cyclops are the only two not smiling with joy. Charles welcomes Logan home and says “I’m not sure we have a vacancy.” He and Logan look up at the second floor walkway that wraps around the foyer, at all these people varying in age, most of whom have physical mutations. Outside, the final shot is a pan-down to the wrought iron fence and the large X shield on it. Cut to black. And then.. “The X-Men will return.”

I don't think the "hate all mutants" will make sense, in the world of X-Men (Fox) people feared mutants because they were the only beings with powers in a world that didn't have much aside from guns and nukes to fight back. But in the MCU we already have what some people could consider mutants of some type (Capitain America, Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Spiderman, Scarlet Witch and others) and you also have Thor, Loki, Iron Man and War Machine.

But in Jessica Jones and some other Marvel TV Shows, we're shown that not everyone trusts superheroes. Maybe right now that's a minority in the MCU, but when mutants appear, more and more people will hate super-powered beings if they are not registered with the government. Also, every hero in the current MCU got their powers, but mutants are born with them. That makes a huge difference

It will only work when people see that the mutants bring caos. Seeing magnetos destruction would most likely cause them to be discriminated. Scarlett Witch in civil war was the one that the government seemed most worried about as she seems to have less control over her powers compared to the rest

I wouldn't call any of the MCU characters "mutants" because they had to rely on chemicals, radiation, technology, and magic to gain their powers. What sets the X-men crowd apart from the MCU characters is that they are all born with superpowers and they are living in a world that hates and fears them simply for what they are. Meanwhile, that same world embraces the Avengers who can do the same things the X-men can so yeah, it's not going to make any sense for the X-men to be part of the MCU.

I absolutely adored January Jones' casting, and for me she pulled off the eye candy aspect of the character because she's gorgeous, and they got her outfits right, too. But, I was disappointed to see they didn't really go anywhere with the character herself. And then we don't see her again, which only added to said disappointment. I really would like to see an X-Men movie hovering around the idea of Cyclops and Emma as a couple.

I totally agree...I thought it would’ve been cool to have her helping Raven find out who was killing the mutants, protecting Raven any way possible but in the end choosing to return to westchester with beast and Xavier to help with the school....that would’ve been a better way to utilize her character rather than throwing her away in favor of wolverine screen time

I think a good way to have a large and developed cast of mutants in the MCU is to utilise what the films have been ignoring. Netflix. There's already a catalog of marvel shows their and I think a good fit for a smaller style of story centring around mutants would be Generation X. It would let us see personal struggles of the characters and also allow us to learn more about mutants and the going ons in the school.

Sorry to correct you, but Mystique, in fact, was an X-Man. When Rogue got infected with the Strain by the Hecatomb, Mystique joined the X-Men and worked with her on her squad in order to try to save her life, even in the comics. Though I do agree with you, that Fox's Mystique is one of the worst incarnations of the character. They wasted J-Law on her, when she would have made the PERFECT Rogue. Rebecca Romijn was the perfect Mystique already, and they could always have gone for another younger actress if they were hellbent on recasting the role.

I think you nailed it. It would be great to see the MCU focus more on the X-men as students and a cohesive team while leaving Wolverine out for a film or two. I think MCU would be able to portray a heartfelt, meaningful relationship between Scott and Jean which was always my favorite dynamic of the show while not relegating Jean to the role as the fainting, weak member of the team (consequently my least favorite dynamic of the show). Maybe in 10 years we'll finally get a good Phoenix Saga on the big screen!

I think focusing on Emma Frost and her villain to hero arc could be one way to do an xmen movie without it feeling to much like its re-hashing the plot of old ones. Like, introduce mutants by having someone develop mutant powers as a sideplot of a prior mcu movie and then do a Frost focused xmen film, where the truth about mutants gets out somewhere in the process. Also I want more idealistic and impulsive sunspot screentime

I think X-Men: Evolution is the perfect template for how to handle the mutants in the MCU. The biggest squandered opportunity was them giving the one significant rescue mission away entirely to Wolverine, which made zero sense and robbed the younger characters of their moment to shine and grow(Weapon X). This could have been used as the perfect moment for Scott to be forced to take the lead, for Jean to start to gain confidence in herself and Nightcrawler to get a bit more serious and master his teleporting better ( setting up the good use in the fight against Archangel) while simultaneously building teamwork. But instead of character growth, as usual, fox went for boring old Wolverine fan-service.

This probably won't happen but here's my idea: The mind stone was used to give Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver their powers... Thanos used the stones to wipe out half the universe... Anyone who has read the comics knows they've been trapped in the soul stone... Maybe when they come back out, those with the "X-gene" will have mutations from exposure to the stones like Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver (and apparently red skull). These people will be referred to as mutants, and the MCU X-MEN are born. The Hydra agents said the twins were the only successes of their experiments. Implying that most people didn't gain powers from the stone, but the ones with the twins' genes did.

Grant Morrison’s run on the Xmen would be amazing, it’s a great way to still have Jean & Phoenix incorporated but just in a different way. Having Casandra Nova as a villain can really flesh out some of Prof Xs back story too. Plus! I love Emma Frost working as a teacher and Jean being the leader while having problems with her marriage to cyclops. You can even introduce in other members like Fantomex, Xorn, Stepford Cuckoos etc. We don’t need another origins story of the Xmen, people are already familiar.

Without the X-Men films to pave the way comic book adaptations were disregarded as a joke. Kevin Feige was also very involved in the making of the original X-Men movies so his experience there also let him know a thing or two in this brand of industry. Superman started it in the 70's. Batman and Robin killed it in the 90's. *Blade* reinvigorated the genre. X-Men came out in between and then *Spider-Man* truly kick-started the whole thing. Next, not even Spider-Man gets credit for this phenomenon. The MCU is entirely its own thing and the first of its kind (in the 21st century). There were no crossovers like it. Excellent video, Midnight. Your videos are always the highlights of my Thursdays. So I sincerely thank you for making them. X-men is a concept that I argue needs to have some major retooling for the MCU. I agree with making it more Harry Potter in that we focus on the school element. That is something I had always felt like was missing from the Singer movies. Something I'd also love to see is a POV character. The comics did this very well with Jubilee(my favorite X-men. Sue me) and Kitty Pyrde. This character is vital in not only being someone to who we can relate to/ root for, but convey exposition to. Also, I'd like to see an antagonist outside of Magneto, like say Arcade, or heck the Purifers.

They're my favorite characters, but not in the 1st movie. I'd say the first movie should be the original cast: Cyclops, Jean Gray, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. I like Colossus, Storm, Shadowcat, and Nightcrawler too... but all of those characters would be *way* too much. So introducing them might have to wait until the 2nd movie. So I'd say introduce Gambit and Rogue in the 3rd movie? (Perhaps Colossus, Storm, and Shadowcat in 2, with Nightcrawler joining in the 3rd movie with Gambit and Rogue? Maybe Jubilee as well?) Although... I love Gambit, I'd love to see him get a solo film in between X-Men movies 2 and 3... not sure that's feasible though. Introducing Rogue in perhaps the 3rd Miss Marvel movie to end her arc would make sense... I'm fairly confident they don't want to end her this early, but I think it would be for the best.

Rogue, Cyclops, Storm and Xavier. That's all we need for the start. Rogue is just too good, and we definitely need to introduce her now that we also have Captain Marvel. I want the x-men in the mcu to have their comic book outfits and one of them complains only to have cyclops say this "what would you prefer, black leather?" But ideally, I would have the first movie show cyclops, beast, iceman, angle and jean starting to awaken their powers. Have them meet charles Xavier in some way and he takes them in, along with making a sly nod to magneto. Introduce a classic smaller scale x-men villain for the team to battle, as they bond and become friends.

I think something similar to the tone that you suggested is on point. They should use the All-New X-men run of Brian Michael Bendis as a template. Have the originals like Bobby (Iceman) and Warren (Angel) with Kitty as the trainee. Heck, they could just build off of Homecoming and Deadpool treat characters and just do contained stories with a limited number of characters. Something like Gambit and Rogue or the adventures that Kitty and Wolverine had together. You'd just throw in X-men here and there for plot elements without necessarily explaining everything.

Personally, I would stay away from the Logan altogether. If you need a Wolverine, use Laura Kinney. You don't even necessarily have to make her a clone, she could just be the original Weapon X test subject. I just feel like Hugh Jackman's take on the character was iconic enough that trying to cast a new Logan will just feel wrong. Plus, Laura is awesome, and if you do Laura, you can spin her off into her own movie, maybe introduce Honey Badger and Johnathan the Wolverine. It'd be great.

I like these ideas a lot. I agree they should take a similar approach as they did to Spiderman, where they just subvert all these tropes from prior movies, which as you said for the X-Men includes prejudice against mutants, Professor X, Magneto, and Wolverine. Just like with Spiderman, they should give one or more X-Men an interesting relationship with a pre-existing character. And when they do add Wolverine, later into the movies for sure, he should have some modernized version of his ORIGINAL costume(like how movie Falcon looks compared to comic falcon), mask included.

I think if the MCU does a X-Men Film they should use a cast of mutants never seen on screen as the main team. There's enough mutants for that, you can maybe have some more recognizable characters there in the background but the whole point is kind of the school with very different teams being formed, new characters being regularly introduced so I really wouldn't mind not seeing any of the main X-Men, it worked in first class, it works in Legion, it can work in the MCU. Characters is not really what make the X-Men this good of a comics it's more about the concept of prejudice being explored through mutants, the variety of powers which are also a burden you can create the team dynamic and the teenage drama that's why the Fox Movies worked despite putting little focus on the characters even if it can be done better I don't think "doing Cyclop justice" is the important part here, a team like the Avengers before the MCU struggled to really be something greater than the sum of its individual parts while the X-Men is so I don't care who is on the team just make it good. I can't express how much I share your wish that future x-men movies make Xavier's school feel more like a school, I think it could give the films a self-contained sort of stability-a home-base, if you will-that could allow them to explore the characters in-depth with more minor conflicts that still feel interesting. Like you said, Harry Potter did this wonderfully, and it allowed them to build suspense and steadily make the films darker as the characters aged-which also made them more poignant.

though with a sudden outbreak it could be tricky to explain, they pretty much exactly did that with inhumans on agents of shield although on a smaller scale. While inhumans and mutants arent Exactly the same, i think a terrigen related explanation for the sudden influx of powered people would work much better than Suddenly Mutants. (for example, a lab accident blew up a research center w a bunch of crystals and it spread terrigen dust into the atmosphere, but the low concentration doesnt create a full on terrigenesis cocoon but gives people powers by slightly altering them over time, maybe only children and people still growing up) it would also help connect the existing lore between the shows and movies (assuming the xmen stuff would be for movies).

DjAirsurfer the movies are canon to the tv but not the tv to movies so far. I don’t think it’s so much of an issue for it to be a bit weird between them, were the tv crowd thinking about both fitting when they made coulson a world wide wanted man?

parkerboy795 if they need to change continuity for it though it makes no sense. But one thing I think could work is if they have it be that mutants and the x-gene are a result of celestial engineering and experimenting on humans using the infinity stones say(we saw one use a stone in gotg) and huge stone activity activates it prematurely that could work. Then again merger won’t be done for a while and it’ll be years before we get an xmen movie so I don’t think that it could work.

1) Considering the Holocaust is way too long ago, let's make Magneto a victim of recent East European genocides, be it Kosovo or Bosnia. 2) Storm's solo movie should be MCU's very own answer to Wonder Woman Marvel meant her to be. 3) If they can have a talking raccoon, Dazzler should headline MCU's first superhero musical. 3) Have Rogue and Mystique make their first appearance in a Captain Marvel sequel. 4) MCU's X-Men vs Avengers shouldn't just be about two teams going to town on each other. It should be an exploration of various themes such as racism, generation gap between the two teams, etc. Like the Avengers are these super-powered celebrity peacekeeping force while the X-Men are the underdogs. Or explore reasons behind why people irrationally hate mutants while admire the Avengers at the same time.

All I need in an X-Men movie is a big focus on Kitty Pryde. Her character is so much better than people give her credit for because she has the simple power of phasing. Also need a Shadowcat movie that introduces Lockheed.

They need to do a Wolverine and hulk movie like ragnarok and fight in the beginning but fight like saber tooth at something in the end together and the post credit scene could be the back of galactis and then you see silver surfer fly around him post I know it is pretty crazy but it is a good way to get the fantastic 4 and the X-men in the mcu

Here’s how I would integrate them: Have them set in an alternate universe within the Multiverse (as already set up in Doctor Strange) and have the universes crossover. No retconning whatsoever.

My dream lineup would be to have the team develop the same way the Avengers did (one per movie until SHOWTIME). The first lineup will involve the five original members, the second teamup the Claremont members, and the third feature “other heroes” like Shadowcat, Gambit, and Rogue.

Having the multiverse explored is the most fun option imo, plus we could get fun alternate history movies that wouldn't recton anything. I'd be down for it.
