I’ve had pretty good luck with doing this with the foam: Cut it to where the gun is a snug fit and then cut out to finger holes where you can just reach in and grab it. It makes the issue you had non-existent. LOVE this build tho. I’ve never made a slide out flag like this. Mine have always been up and down. Def gonna give this style a try!! Great job!!! OHHH...and as for the stars, when you put your stencil down, spray a coat of sealer over the stencil before applying the white paint. It will seal all the edges and eliminate any bleeding of the white!! 👍🏼👊🏼

Awesome video, love how it turned out and the detailed build process is greatly appreciated! I love the build and the idea of the lock. Did you consider any other options for the lock? Would there be a way for thr magnet to hold the pin but id you move the magnet it "drops" the pin instead of removing it? If you really need it I am not sure I would want to be reaching for a magnet and then pulling the pin up and out
@rb-today Жыл бұрын
For the lock, you could predrill your hole not quite through and use a slightly shorter rod. There wouldn't be a hole to show no matter where you set/hung the box. To unlock have a knickknack on top that has a magnet in its bottom. To unlock, just slide the knickknack over the spot where the rod is. The rod raises up out of the door into the frame. You could incorporate multiple locking rods, if you choose. I use this principle with little jewelry boxes for my nieces.

You can use almost any joint on the ends. I have seen Kreg, mitered 45 and dovetail sides. If you stain the entire board white first the red will stand out more.

Awesome build! Lots of detail; well done. One observation (suggestion?) If the foam is too loose to securely hold the gun or mags, you could drill a few rare earth magnets into the plywood backing to hold it a little better. Super cool build!

GOOD ON YOU!!! just came across your channel and 100% subscribing!!! Love to see that your mind works like mine as far as solving problems with simple things around you. Okay a few questions. 1. Do you wipe off your stain before adding coats? 2. How long do you wait to spray your stain with sealer?
@MP3laster2 жыл бұрын
You should add a spot in the foam in front of the grip so you arent grabbing it by the trigger to remove it. Even a small finger hole.

Thats a very good idea, thank you!

Does it matter if you use water based stain or oil base stain… or is that a preference.. thanks
@MaxF013 жыл бұрын
Thats more of a preference, oil based stain tends to yellow over time tho so just keep that in mind, no problem!

Looks great what was your total cost on the project?

Love it, think it would of looked cool without the white too just the wood effect, you could also glue some rods on the sponge to hold some tabs if your objects are not full held, great job.

I'm almost done. The stars are so much whiter than the stained white stripes, did that bug you? Also the glue left a nasty residue but I was able to torch it off.

I have a suggestion for the foam not sticking very well or being a little bit loose maybe try double-sided Velcro on the back of it just a thought that way you could always remove it and if you have to take the box off the wall better than gluing it
