Great job bud! I’m going to have to add it at the top of my to-do list. I may have missed this, but did you mention the total cost of materials? I know it will vary across the country, but it would be nice to know a ball park number before I go buy everything. Thanks!

Son, be proud of yourself. You not only spent time and money to display our flag but were willing to share your work and process with us. Just remember, some negative comments maybe attempts to help when others are simply miserable, snotty nose little boys that only get off the couch to go to the restroom then return to the couch for more cookies, popcorn and candy. My apologies for the brain dead comments and please continue your work and teaching us. John

I’ve had pretty good luck with doing this with the foam: Cut it to where the gun is a snug fit and then cut out to finger holes where you can just reach in and grab it. It makes the issue you had non-existent. LOVE this build tho. I’ve never made a slide out flag like this. Mine have always been up and down. Def gonna give this style a try!! Great job!!! OHHH...and as for the stars, when you put your stencil down, spray a coat of sealer over the stencil before applying the white paint. It will seal all the edges and eliminate any bleeding of the white!! 👍🏼👊🏼

Thank you so much for this informative video.. I'm a 59 year old woman who is making this for my husband for Christmas..he and I just bought two new second amendments and have no secure places for them..this is the perfect size for both of them..and it was VERY easy to follow your directions unlike others who have done hundreds of these and forget that every person out there is a woods craftsman..some of us are women..just starting out..so long story short..too late.. LoL thank you!!! Keep putting out these instructional videos for people like me...and MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄!!!

Krylon Chalky paint (not the spray) can be tinted to any color swatch from Lowe’s and can be applied so the wood grain/burn show through.

Beautiful. Love the flag on the plywood. I picked up 2 x8 x8 rough cedar boards at Home Depot for $5.83. On clearance. I can get 3 flags from each board. But we just built a house and builder left behind 50 sheets of 1/2 plywood. So plenty to practice

This wasn’t my type of project but I stayed to watch because I appreciate your craftsmanship and your replies to critical comments is phenomenal! You take every suggestion as potential to learn and expand your woodworking “vocabulary.” That alone deserves a subscription! Thanks for this project and I’ll definitely be sticking around. And orient the gun muzzle up, the mags bullet pointing towards You when You open, just ergonomics, easier to just go with Your palm directly at the grip of the gun, like a "hands up" position. And the mags grip with with thumb and 3 finger opposite, the built in pointer along the front of the mag.

Awesome video, love how it turned out and the detailed build process is greatly appreciated! If you're worried about the loose foam cutout, you could potentially glue or inset some rare earth magnets in the back panel behind the foam, they'd hold everything nice and snug. Again great build thank you!

I love the build and the idea of the lock. Did you consider any other options for the lock? Would there be a way for thr magnet to hold the pin but id you move the magnet it "drops" the pin instead of removing it? If you really need it I am not sure I would want to be reaching for a magnet and then pulling the pin up and out
@rb-today
@rb-today Жыл бұрын
For the lock, you could predrill your hole not quite through and use a slightly shorter rod. There wouldn't be a hole to show no matter where you set/hung the box. To unlock have a knickknack on top that has a magnet in its bottom. To unlock, just slide the knickknack over the spot where the rod is. The rod raises up out of the door into the frame. You could incorporate multiple locking rods, if you choose. I use this principle with little jewelry boxes for my nieces.

You can use almost any joint on the ends. I have seen Kreg, mitered 45 and dovetail sides. If you stain the entire board white first the red will stand out more.

Awesome build! Lots of detail; well done. One observation (suggestion?) If the foam is too loose to securely hold the gun or mags, you could drill a few rare earth magnets into the plywood backing to hold it a little better. Super cool build!

GOOD ON YOU!!! just came across your channel and 100% subscribing!!! Love to see that your mind works like mine as far as solving problems with simple things around you. The washers,the steel rod lock.....ect. you can glue your foam if you put a couple drill wholes through the foam where the screws are located. You should consider building a few and signing them,I'm sure you'd make a fair paycheck, and you should build one as you do but use all premium materials from exotic hard woods that dont bend or warp,and a QUALITY magnetic lock! None the less I've been catching up on your videos and I'm TRULY GLAD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GREAT CONTENT

Looks good. Two suggestions: 1. You could try those magnetic child proof cabinet locks or for a bit more security, you could do some kind of RF card lock. 2. Maybe velcro the foam in so that it stays and can be removed later. Not sure if that foam would hold the velcro on the back or not, but worth a try.

Loved the video and I'm trying to build one. In your video the sides are 1"X 5" in my are we have 1"x 6". So could you tell me what a 1x5 measures? I'm trying to make as to your measurements.

Awesome video buddy. I wonder if you could make one to where when you pull the locking pin out it automatically opens w/some speed. If you're ever in a home intruder situation, I know I wouldn't want to have to pull the pin, slide it open and retrieve the firearm. I'd want to pull the pin and go. Just a thought. Let us know if you ever do a project like that. Keep up the great work. You make us red blooded patriots proud!!

Awesome job on the cabinet. I see you using stencils for your Union. I have an MS Excel spreadsheet that I built for when I make custom flag items so I can put in the height or the width and it gives me the dimensions for each piece of the flag.

Might try to use shadow foam. Get it in two different colors. Or use two 1in pieces of foam so it is easier to cut out the shape then glue together. Looks really good.

Did you burn both sides of the plywood or just one? When I build mine I noticed the woods starts to cup if I only burn one side. Once you burn the other side it flattens back out. That is also with regular pine and oak, not plywood.

Okay a few questions. 1. Do you wipe off your stain before adding coats? 2. How long do you wait to spray your stain with sealer?
@MP3laster
@MP3laster 2 жыл бұрын
You should add a spot in the foam in front of the grip so you arent grabbing it by the trigger to remove it. Even a small finger hole.

I'm almost done. The stars are so much whiter than the stained white stripes, did that bug you? Also the glue left a nasty residue but I was able to torch it off.

I have a suggestion for the foam not sticking very well or being a little bit loose maybe try double-sided Velcro on the back of it just a thought that way you could always remove it and if you have to take the box off the wall better than gluing it
