Got the same stove for Christmas, the tin is actually more than just a tin, put your stove on it and you won't scorche the ground, it also helps your stove to be more stable, put the stoves legs in the tins "X-pattern" and you've got a stable platform :) All the best!
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
The tin is really good, I’ll still use it for its intended purpose, but it does add bulk and especially weight. The stove is pretty stable without it and as long as you clear the ground under it, it’s not a problem. I just like the idea of a minimalist stove. 😁🔥 hope you’re enjoying yours as much as I am mine!!

Thanks Alex! I think you are right - I seem to be building up two sets of equipment - my bushcraft kit is heavier - more canvas, leather and wool - hardwearing for the woods and next to the fire. Simon i stuff my face in other peoples woods!! Thats a better size I found firebox to be a bit big n heavy!! Im glad you are keeping your scissorhands in shape AND womens guild sewing classes up!! Very nice addition or finish What type of waxed fabric the best thread i find for outdoor uses is beeswaxed linen thread! Polyester against cotton if under strain can be too hard for the supporting fabric depends on grade of fabric used of cse I had a real difficulty to find a suitable thread for my tent Im trying to source a wool hunting serge fabric now For a winter smock Am undecided on wool im going to use for my trousers But would be lighter than smock Ive gone off of polyester Im revolting against it Now returning to all naturals As i just find it feels handles better Has unique properties & charachter
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
I’m with you on the natural fibres (although I still wear them in most of my clothing! Wool just stands up the rigours if the outdoors so much better - less snagging and tearing in thorny bushes, warmer, safer with sparks etc! Interesting about the polyester thread - hadn’t thought of that! Good luck with the smock and strides! Off to stuff my face again now - so many leftover cheeses!!

You got your Firebox Nano! AND IN Ti, EVEN!!! Your daughter is alright. You might want to keep that one. 😁 I like the pouch. I'd be curious to know what the weight difference between it and the X-case is. Did you get any other accessories with it and do they fit as well, if you did? The Tinder Cards with the Nano now make perfect sense. I don't know why it never crossed my mind before just now. I'll have to slip a couple directly into my case as well.
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
I was blown away when I unwrapped it!! I got it as a kit with the x tin, a carbon felt wind shield and the pins to hold it in place. The pouch is quite a bit lighter, and for me, more importantly, more compact. When I’m going lightweight, I’m not bothered about taking the extras - anything will do as a windshield - my pack usually! 😁

Nice! Any tips on what sewing machine to buy for Bushcraft projects? Will any old one do or did you look for a heavier duty one?
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
I used a 1970s Jones domestic sewing machine for my lavvu - did the job perfectly, finally gave up the ghost a year or so ago, but I was so impressed with it I bought another one of similar vintage. The older domestic machines were built well, heavy with cast iron components - modern machines, although full of high tech features are plastic and seem flimsy (in my opinion) you’ll not go wrong with a Jones or Singer!
