You earned a sub! great content, a few points for feedback which I think would help me enjoy the video better: 1 - Defintely show more footage of the final product. We want to see it, and they are worth showing off! 2 - Please could you use Google translate to help get a better translation, sometimes the text can be a little hard to make sense of. 3 - I would quickly list the materials and tools needed as it will help people get ready if they want to follow along. Either way, great videos and I love your relaxed and humble approach to it. Is great to see, keep up the great work and awesome designs!

Looks good. I've been wanting to make one of these desings myself but i'm not a craftsman so not sure where to begin. I also watched drawbrigde props's video. Your video is a good addition! You have any tips for a beginner like me? I have to get the tools and stuff. Would you recommend mild steel? Or zinc coated?
@GarageKnight2 жыл бұрын
Thank you and glad you found this helpful! Mild steel is what I use and it's most common what others use too. Don't use zinc coated especially if you are going to use heat since it will produce toxic gases. I'm not a professional either and I have no formal training for this hobby so almost everything I have ever build are documented on these videos. A good vice, hammer, angle grinder, dishing stump etc. what you see in the video is all you need. My first ever project was a great helm and it's quite an easy start. This type of helmet is also a good start since you can learn some dishing and basic shaping. A good thickness is 1,25 - 1,5 mm steel. 1 mm is too thin so it won't stay in shape very well. 2 mm is also good but I wouldn't use thicker than that or you need to use heat to shape it.

So how do you dish the log to and is there a certain type of log?
@GarageKnight3 жыл бұрын
I used an angle grinder with chainsaw disc first and then made it smooth with sanding disc. I have few different sizes as you see. There are some tutorials for it too if you search "how to make a dishing stump". And maybe use some hard wood if you can but I don't if it really matters. I still have some old dishing stumps and they are still good.
@blackvegetable84363 жыл бұрын
I used a chainsaw for it, but yeah an angle grinder with a chainsaw disc is probably safer. Or some people have made them with just chicels or by drilling. But as said above there are some great tutorials on how to make one

Nice, I think I need to make a new dishing stump cuz even hammering in the center like you said don't work much for my tryanle peaces too bad I cut them out before your last video anyways mine is made from 14 gauge steel anyways seeing your videos may have saved my project also do you think you'll let yours form a patina naturally or will you keep it polished?
@GarageKnight3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes I got this huge stump from a friend, I really like it since it's so steady and high enough to work comfortably. I did use some polishing paste so it should stay shiny for a while. And since they are decoratin my room, I'll probably keep them shiny too. Time will tell :)

Nice video! Gonna make one as a present for christmas, so I downloaded the template. It didn't include the circumferential structural bands though, I presume because it varies by head size. Any tips/charts on how to size them properly?
@GarageKnight Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yea I didn't give templates to the bands, the easiest way to measure them is to make a cardboard version first. Leave some room for padding and don't make it too tight. For reference my head circumference is about 60 cm and the helmet's circumference (measured from surface) is 65 cm and it's pretty tight and doesn't have any padding. So on a hindsight it could have been a bit larger to be more comfortable.

Brother, could you create the helmet of the mandalorian? If you can, I would pay you in advance and I would do the import issue, since I am a foreign trade technician and I know how to import and export products. I would like to know, how professional are you, if you can make an exact replica of the mandalorian helmet made of metal, greetings from Chile

I've made my own version of the Mandalorian helmet. I think I could make the same version like in the series if I change a few things. But currently I'm very busy with other things in my life and unfortunately I don't have time to make things to sell, only tutorials once in a while. Hope you enjoy them
