This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Question: wouldn't it melt with the lamp heat?
@MontMarteArt5 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, air hardening clay isn't effected by heat so it won't melt if it's put near a candle :)
@kellih.83274 ай бұрын
Hi. Do you know if you can use air dry clay applications like this with actual candles? I've not been able to find a heat safe selant for it. Especially not one with a matte finish. Do you know if this is possible?
@MontMarteArt4 ай бұрын
Hi there, our Air Hardening Modelling Clay shouldn’t be in contact with an open flame or sustained heat. Melted wax can be very hot and may damage the clay. Melted wax may be difficult to remove as the clay is porous. However, it may be used with a tea light candle if it is sufficiently spaced away from the sides of the candle holder. Preferably, the tea light is separated by placing it into a heat-resistant container inside the clay holder. Also make sure to never leave candles unattended. There are loads of LED tealights that might be a safer option. Regarding the varnish, we don’t currently sell a heat-resistant varnish. Hope this helps! 😊

Can i change a vaseline with oils to coat the bottle?
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rifqi, great question! Some of the oil might soak into the clay and could potentially effect the drying time and cause some staining. So for this reason, we'd recommend using Vaseline instead :)

Thanks for this to the point, great video. New to this hobby. Was wondering can I carve design with dremel when dry?
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, great question! We haven't tried it, but you might be able to carve out the shapes once it's dry. The cuts probably won't be as clean as when you carve out the shapes beforehand, but we'd suggest experimenting and giving it a go :)

No modelling clay has oil in it. It will not harden up
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, we wouldn't recommend it because modelling clay won't harden and also doesn't cope well with heat (it will melt). Good luck with your project :)

Hey can we still add that little candle if the clay is homemade.... Would love ur help...
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, we used an LED tealight for this tutorial, so that would be a good option if you're concerned about using a real candle :) We don't recommend a real candle because air dry clay contains paper pulp.

what i should do if my clay is dry and i want to use it
@MontMarteArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, if your clay has completely dried up there isn't much you can do to save it. If your clay is only a little bit dry you can try adding water to moisten it up. Hope this helps 😊

is it waterproof after drying? if not then what can we do to make it waterproof?
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, air drying clay is not waterproof once it dries, but you can make it waterproof by ‘sealing’ it. You can do this using a coat of either acrylic gloss medium or a mix of equal parts PVA glue and water. Below are the steps we use to seal air dry clay sculptures: 1. Use a paint brush to cover the entire sculpture with acrylic gloss medium or a mix of PVA glue and water 2. Let this dry, and then give your work a coat of grey acrylic paint (we recommend using acrylic paints because they help seal air drying clay to protect it from moisture) 3. After the grey coat has dried, give it two coats of the final colours We hope this helps!

Love your skill and work. how do you remove petroleum jelly after for painting?
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nico, thanks! Sorry for the delay getting back to you on this one. That's a great question - you could try sprinkling cornflour on the petroleum jelly and wiping it off with a dry paper towel. This should remove most of it so that the surface is ready to paint :) A fine grade sandpaper can also be used to gently smooth out the surface if you feel like it needs some extra work.

Love your project, but why wouldn't you just use clay cutters (or small cookie cutters)? I certainly wouldn't get as nice a result freehand cutting like your artist did.
@MontMarteArt5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rose, for this project we used a hobby knife because the pattern we were working with was quite small. You can use a cookie cutter for larger patterns, but the edges might need some tidying up if you're using air hardening clay :)

I saw if you put Saran wrap over clay first then use cutter it helps with the edges (looks smoother).

I tried this and my clay stuck to my bottle and won’t let go. What should I dooooo?
@MontMarteArt4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, our only advice would be to let it dry and see if you can gently prize it free... Otherwise, you'll probably need to break it and try again with some Vaseline (make sure you coat the bottle to make it easier to slide your lantern free). We know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but we hope it helps!
