You have in been so inspiring, I am ready to make my first wedding gown. I had planned to make a full flowy skirt, and cut it out to a full circle skirt pattern. Above, I was going to use a strapless 8 panel bodice. I had always made a circle skirt in the past for dresses, but now I wonder why on earth I was doing that, since matching up the waist of the bodice to panels of the skirt makes so much more sense!! I love your channel ..its so explanatory...please can i get a calculation on how cut circular panel with a train ....the waist calculation and the outer flare calculation and can a overlay tulle be cut the same

My tulle skirt tutorial has instructions to calculate a circular skirt pattern, then you'll just need to extend the back and side back panels to make the train. You can use the same method of adding the layers of tulle as well; you'll just have to add the extra length for the train as you cut the pieces of tulle. It's more complicated but definitely possible. Alternatively you can cut full circles of tulle with the train and layer those together. Yes - cut the front on the fold and 2 pieces of all the other panels.

Is it possible to make the skirt with one front panel (on the fold) and then two back panels that meet the front at the sides? Or do you recommend the side front panels as well?

You can but it won't give you much shape - you'd need to add darts at the top for shaping. I'd definitely recommend using more panels for a skirt this style.

Cut the panels wider at the top and then gather them to the waist measurement. The width you'll need to cut them to will depend on the amount of gathering you want.

How do you treat the layers of this dress if you add a slit in the skirt? Having 3-4 layers flapping all over the shop in the front slit of a gown seems messy? How would you finish the slit with multiple layers in your skirt?!

I’m trying to discover how to curve waist portions of my skirt pattern to match the corseted bodice. I understand that the width of the top of each skirt panel needs to match the width of each corresponding bodice portion. How do I determine the curve? Thank you!

Cel, I realized that the bottom of my corseted bodice was completely straight. I left the top of the skirt pieces straight too. It came out beautifully!

How many metres of each of the four layers of fabric did you use?

I think it was around 5m of each iirc. Yours may vary depending on the length of your skirt and train and the width of your fabric. If you make a pattern you can use that work out exactly how much you'll need. Hope that helps.

Not all the fabrics I was using were the same width so there's going to be different amounts of wastage. I also sometimes cut so that the offcuts are big enough to use as corset panel pieces. Fewer seams wouldn't have given me the shape of skirt that I wanted to achieve.
