Whenever I used to go to the mall I would get Bourbon Chicken in the food court. Loved that stuff. Can't get it anymore as my go-to place closed. I have tried other Bourbon Chicken recipes on the web that promise but don't deliver. This one however is the bomb! Made it tonight and devoured it. I will make this many, many more times to come. Thank you for your great recipe. You filled a gap in my life.

I love Bourbon Chicken. So it was that good, huh? Did you make any changes? Also, was the sauce kind-of thick (like syrup) or was it like broth? I like the ones that are more thicker and not brothy. Please write back and let me know. Thanks ...
@johnb73464 жыл бұрын
@@poelemic3642 use less or no corn starch in the sauce. My box of cs is old and it didn't thicken much so I used more and it was still thin. I make this for myself and wife and cut the sauce recipe in half as it makes more than we use. Also, made it in skillet first time and it was more clean up than second time on the grill. Grill also allows for a bit of char-broiling which I like better. Hope you like as much as we do!

Your recipe for Bourbon Chicken is the best I've seen so far. Yours is the only one that has Asian seasonings and truly sears the thighs on the flat iron to give the grill effect and flavor and yet keep the chicken tender and not soggy as the others. I would go a bit further and add some roasted nuts (cashew/walnuts) as a topping.

Omg I made this tonight and this is hands down the best rendition of Bourbon chicken I've tasted that rivals the Mall or Chinese restaurant. I've been chasing this taste with other recipes for years and they just didn't cut it, but this is the one and I'm elated that I found this so thank you very much The Art of Cooking. By the way I used 3 chicken breast sliced thin instead and marinated them for 1 day. So delicious 😋.

@Wes ... Can you tell me if this is like the Mall version? Also, is the sauce like broth, or is it like maple syrup? I prefer the thicker consistency of sauce. Thanks for sharing your comment/s.

Poe Lemic Hey so I made the bourban chicken today and it’s pretty good. I’m probably going to confuse you more because I didn’t use this recipe 😅 I used this recipe www.jocooks.com/recipes/jos-bourbon-chicken/comment-page-1/#comments. For the marinade. I also seasoned the chicken basic with salt pepper and garlic powder and a little soy sauce idk if that didn’t much you can probably omit that. But I let the chicken soak in the marinade for like 2 hours then grilled it. I chose last minute to put like 1/8 tsp of the 5 spice in the chicken with the marinade to see how it would be. It’s like verrryy strong. So I ended up throwing out that marinade after I took all the chicken out and grilling. The recipe I linked said to use that marinade as the sauce and cook the chicken in it after but I think the five spice messed it up lol. So I found this recipe kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqW4o4yDls-Clac for a honey garlic glaze and made this and added chilli flakes and mixed the chicken into this sauce in stead and it’s pretty gooood i don’t know if it’s necessarily bourban anymore lol more like bourban honey garlic chicken I guess. Good luck whenever you make it I think it’s a tricky dish to master and get spot on to the Chinese restaurants 😅

Hey there. Just tried your recipe (without the 5 spice) and it was amazing. I have one question though: when you cook the chicken I noticed yours barely had (if any) marinade on it? Did you rinse it off? I ask because I tried to drip it off as much as possible but could avoided caramelizing/ burning the pan. What did you do different? Oil type? I used olive oil. Thanks!
@fireresq710 жыл бұрын
Sorry meant: "couldn't avoid"
@drummerchef85110 жыл бұрын
Chinese are not famous for OLIVES. Your burning was probably due to you using a thin pan which does not heat evenly enough. The griddle that he used was a thick cast iron griddle which conducts/distributes heat differently, your problem is common for home cooks, just cut the heat back, don't use high temperature. Olive oil, (NOT USED IN ASIA) was your other problem because it has a low smoke point, use canola, peanut, soy bean, grape seed or vegetable oil. Sugar and high heat don't get along very well unless you know what your doing. By using olive oil you, (and omitting 5 spice) you changed the flavor profile of the recipe too, making it YOUR recipe. Always remember, there are no rules to cooking, until you learn how to cook then there are lots of rules. It's a conundrum, I know. The most important thing to know about cooking is it's heat and time CONTROL! Good luck.

Wonderful recipe, many thanks. The chicken was tender, juicy. The skin was a little burned but that what makes this dish performed incredibly. The flavor was enhanced by the richness of Whiskey. Slide red sharp savor. Overall beautiful but a bit lack of spiciness plus some salad to eat with. But to be honest, i can't think of something works fine with it.
