Mdf doesn't withstand moisture and it isn't durable enough

Just curious, if you had to do this a 2nd time, would you prime and paint before installing?

Yeah, I think so. I’ll actually be doing that in a couple weeks with the rest of the house.

@@BitsandWood 1 million precent’ I did the same thing he did made my own installed then painted’ if u have a sprayer u could install first’ if you are rolling paint b4 installing or you’ll never get the bottom as roller hits floor’ Also u don’t wanna hear this…. There r times u save money’ u r saving money by doing it yourself’ For the love of god BUY THEM! Cutting your own makes the biggest mess of mdf dust and you’ll always have cut lines from ripping now u have to sand = more nasty mdf dust’ And the most important part people don’t get’ Priming mdf you HAVE TO USE OIL BASED PRIMER! YOU CAN NOT use water base’ The oil base is $55-60 a gal depending on how much trim you’ll need 1-2 gall and 2 coats Min’ mdf unprimed is a b**ch I thought I’ll save money and make them’ Yah never again By the time I bought everything to do it correctly then cut the mess to Clean up sanding clean again prime once’ now u need to sand after 1st coat trust me if u don’t it will look bad when u paint’ ask me how I know…? Now wipe down 2nd coat primer Sand again Wipe down again now paint Oh did u forget to use 1/8” round over on edges I did 😂😂 do that now prime again’ Or u could just go To store buy pre primed go home paint / install and move on’ Hope that helps bud’ the money u save by doing it yourself is savings enough to just buy it pre cut’ The time it takes to make it yourself just isn’t worth it’ The cost with primer again isn’t worth it’

@@joshymcdaniel9233I literally just went through this myself. I wish I bought them pre cut and primed. I spent so much time cutting, sanding, installing, masking, wiping, priming, sanding again, painting, cleaning up dust. I also bought and used shellac primer which was so expensive. Never again…so not worth the amount of hours I invested.

Can this same tapered profile be achieved by nailing quarter round moulding on top of the wood if one does not have the proper machinery to cut that profile?
@BitsandWood8 ай бұрын
Probably. Just want to be sure you line up the quarter round well.
