Hurrah! THIS is the recipe I've been looking for! Back in the 60s my sister had a Hawaiian friend who made this to take to a pot luck supper and I've remembered the taste ever since. Teryaki chicken isn't quite the same. I made this for lunch today, tasted the sauce and nearly fell on my knees in the kitchen. There it was!!

I’m so glad you have this channel! I’m from Hawaii and the only times I’ve been able to have Hawaiian or Filipino food was if I visited my grandparents or went back home! (My mom isn’t much of a cook 😂) anyways I love to cook and I’m so glad I’m finally able to get my hands on MY comfort foods 💖

My friend gave me a Ginger-Shoyu Chicken recipe about 25yrs ago; it was chicken, fresh ginger, Aloha Shoyu, and sugar. Now, I'll try it your way - with honey and garlic added.

Thank you so much for this recipe!! I just made this for dinner tonight and it definitely reminded me of the days I’d eat them from the Manapua Man in middle school. My fiancé tried it for the first time too, since he’s from the mainland, and he absolutely loved it. He couldn’t stop complimenting it 😍

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME. I was honored to live in Hawai'i for a year decades ago and had many a plate lunch. Many shops offered a side dish that we (perhaps mistakenly) called watercress. It was a darker green and was cooked possibly with sesame oil, I dont know but it was one vegetable I truly loved and I just cant find it anywhere on the net. Any info much appreciated. Mahalo!

I made it for dinner tonight but I didn't have green onion 😔 I hope it will taste ok tho without it. Im trying to use this time at home to cook more foods now that I have the time. Lol.
@OnoHawaiianRecipes4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it still turned out great :)
@kiyokosan83914 жыл бұрын
It did turn out good but I feel like it didn't have enough flavor. Maybe I gotta put more shoyu or something or cook it in shoyu longer. I remember my aunty making this with white sugar, ginger and shoyu. It was good tho. 😁 Maybe less sodium is good.

How would you make this in an Instant Pot?

I wish I could give you an answer but I don't have an instant pot 😔

I made last night. Just dump everything in and set it for 15 min for bone in. Quick release. Take out chicken and add cornstarch slurry. Set it to saute to cook the sauce. I also skimmed off the oil before adding the cornstarch.

Just found this channel dear Jesus lol I don’t know where to start with first girl bless you and your recipes yummer 😋😋 but I seen this comment and yes patrea the rice has to be on point... so what I usually do if I’m not in a rush is clean and rinse rice 3 times after fill the water up above the rice and let it sit and soak for 15-20 mins you’ll see a difference then dump em out and add the amount of water to how many cups you cooking and cook...so far I haven’t been disappointed 👍✌🏼🤙🏼🤗❤️😘...and keep the recipes coming !!!

That's gonna be those dryed out tasting shoyu chickens sometimes you get. Then you start eating more of the mac salad to compensate knowing the mac ain't good for you. Cooking with the skin and bone in leaves a ton more flavor, softens the meat and makes it juicier and before serving, just remove the skin and bones if you want. People who know how to cook will prefer to see the skin and bone to know the meat will be juicy.

1 1/2 tbsp? Not really, as you can see towards the ending of the video the sauce wasn't that thick.
