For the light and particles I would recommend just adding light node in the particle system, it doesn’t require lumen and costs less than spawning a separate light

8:30 I do find the front objects being faded out if the carácter is in front interesting for the following reason: for all things DoF, Motion Blur, etc usually objects need to be rendered as an opaque object (or at most alpha tested) and output their Z depth to the camera buffer. If we try to ‘fade out’ any of those visible front pixels, there wouldn’t be anything ‘behind’ it, the image at that point is basically ‘baked down’ to a single layer. How are they actually achieving this? Are they rendering from the ‘character’s Z depth and back’ and then ‘all objects in front’ and the composite later? Else dithering would solve it in a single pass, but this doesn’t look like what’s happening as the circle masking looks really soft

7:35 If possible, I'd like to learn this as well. There wasn't a lot of material out there that teach this. Since Unreal focused a lot on realistic terrain, level building 2D Unreal can be really tricky.

Hi Cobra, will you make some video tutorials for a turn-based combat system in this kind of HD-2D game?
@CobraCode
@CobraCode 14 күн бұрын
Turn based combat is very deep and even just the basics would take at least 10 hours. Probably gonna need 20 to 30 hours to really do it justice, so if it's gonna happen it will be a course and not a youtube video.

Hi cobra, just one question, I have two of your three courses just I wanted to see if this two have a lot of overlap. The Ultimate Unreal Engine 2D Game Development vs Make a 2D Action Platformer in Unreal Engine
@CobraCode
@CobraCode 23 күн бұрын
Hey! In the beginning there is overlap in terms of covering the basics of Paper 2D, but since in the Action Platformer we only make one single game we can go a lot deeper, where the Ultimate 2D Course mostly covers fundamentals. In the action platformer we'll create many different enemy types, many projectiles, advanced movement such as sliding, wall jumping, ladder climbing and so on, which are all not in the Ultimate 2D course.

Hi Cobra, I got your course looking forward to going through the dialogue section for the HD2D! I had a question unrelated though please. I followed your tutorial on adding emissives to sprites and it works great. However if i use it the sprite itself is darker than if I use a regular sprite material with no emmissives. Any tips? Thanks again🤗
@CobraCode
@CobraCode Ай бұрын
Thank you! With the Default Unlit Material the sprite illuminates itself which makes it appear brighter. If you use a Lit material it depends on the lights you have set up in the scene how it will appear. You might want to crank up the sky light a little bit or change the angle of your directional light to hit the sprite from the front.

Can you do a more intermediate to advanced udemy course
@CobraCode
@CobraCode Ай бұрын
Sadly advanced courses are a sure way to shoot yourself in the foot as a content creator. That's why you barely see any of them. I'd shut out 95% of potential viewers that way and it's just not sustainable. I aim to create my courses in a way that they're interesting for intermediates, but also allow beginners to catch up to that level, but of course there's a limit to what you can do with that.
@jej_x

@@CobraCode I think there is a huge demand as you seem to be one of the main 2d gamedevs for Unreal. Other creators such as DruidMechanics seem to be doing well with more advanced courses.

Hello! I’m currently working on a game with paperzd in a 3d world and I can’t figure out how can I make my enemy AI’s to just use left and right rotation depending which way they move. I made the roaming with AI move to and they can move around using all the axis but I only want to make them rotate two directions. Anyone has any ideas? I also tried to add set actor rotation with fixed rotation values but it’s just rotates the pawn weirdly

Hey, I did something similar in my beat em up and I also briefly covered that in the last chapter of my first course. Just woke up and don't remember it off the top of my head, but think I used the 'set focal point' or 'set focus' node. And then just set it slightly in front of the character to make sure it always points in that direction.
