How to make Mazda/Ford sst 303-507 Timing peg quickly and easily

A quick and easy way to make a DIY version of Mazda/Ford sst 303-507, used to time the crankshaft on Ford and Mazda vehicles.

M10×40mm with a 1.50 thread pitch correct

i used a 40mm bolt. it started and ran for a couple days no issues. now it turns over and no start? would it make that much of a difference.....1.5mm?

As long as the effective length of the bolt is correct then yes, but I would presume finding a washer that's the correct thickness to accomplish that would be harder than grinding the end of the bolt.

Doesn't it need to be a smaller diameter on the end that goes into the blind hole?

No. The only important metric is the length from the head of the bolt to the tip. If you want to make it a smaller diameter you can but it is unnecessary.
