120g gluten-free rice flour 3/4 tbs of sugar 480g water Food coloring (color of ur choice) Filling (optional (fe:ice cream, jam) Recipe: 1.Add the rice flour, sugar, water and foodcoloring in to a pan and mix until no bumps. 2.throughly stir on heat until good consistency. 3.add 1tbs of cornstarch and keep mixing for 1minute. 4.next take the pan off of the stove. 5.sprinkle small amount of corn starch on ur surface. 6.form the mochi with a filling of ur choice. 7.leave mochi in the freezer for 20mins. 8. Kaboosh idk if yummy but u got mochi i think

I JUST MADE IT, it's in the freezer rn. The icecream I put in started melting so it was hard, but I used frozen fruit, I will come back 2 the comment when I eat it- i had a tiny nibble, gives Turkish delight vibes

we don't have much of any stores that could sell this special rice flour here so I could only get the normal rice flour, I imagine they won't be as chewy but at this point your vid was a life saver, can't wait to try them

I just made them and they came out pretty good :))) Just keep in mind that the mochi will of course not have the same texture as sticky-rice mochi I recommend strawberry milk powder as food colouring so they become soft pink coloured Have a sweet day

I made something called fake mochi! 5 marshmallows Syrup (chocolate or strawberry) Teaspoon or 2 of honey Some water (an inch deep) Microwave until melted Mix and slowly add corn starch. When at a dough consistency, kneed Shape Enjoy!

By the way, I recommend you instead put it in a oven or on stove top at a low temperature, as once I microwaved marshmallows, and they exploded.

Just FYI, glutinous refers to the texture. Glutinous rice flour is also gluten-free.

The name is confusing a bit. All kinds of rice are gluten-free, even the one that originally used for mochi. It's called "glutinous" meaning that it's sticky, it's just different kind of rice, it doesn't contain gluten as well.

It’s in the fridge rn, it looks good but I had some difficulty sealing the mochi after i put the filling in. I recommend mixing sorbet into the mixture, as it made the consistency good.

.......you do realize glutinous rice doesn't actually contain gluten, glutinous rice is just rice that has a glutinous texture,also glutenous rice flour has a finer grind then other types of rice flour. Though this recipe would be great for anyone who runs out of mochiko and needs a quick substitute.

All rice is gluten free, people just think that because glutenous rice flour has "glutenous" in the title that it contains gluten, glutenous in this case refers to the texture of the rice.

@@mayatmosphere4377 hey sorry I coudnt reply about this sooner but everything was goin great but my mom added more water and it coudnt transform into a dough no matter how much cornstarch i added then i kept it in a fridge and it was still the same so I tasted it and- the taste.... it was just really bad that's probably my fault cause I kept it in the fridge so as a result I had to throw it away-

For people like me who use cups instead of grams, here's some *hopefully accurate* measurements I got off of Google 120g = 1 cup of Glutinous rice flour, Mochiko, or other rice flour you use to make mochi with. 480g = 2 cups of water. The math doesn't make much sense, but idrk Edit: You can use Bob's red mill sweet rice flour, if you can't find the Glutinous one.

Gluten is the protein found in wheat grains. "Glutinous" in glutinous rice means "sticky". All rice naturally DOES NOT contain Gluten 👍🏼

The two rice flours have completely different texture. I wonder how it would even work in the first place.. it might look it but definitely won’t have the same chewy texture and you can even see it in the video

Texture in the video looks about right to me when she cooks it, it bounces right back up. I think you may need to add more cornstarch than the recipe calls for depending on your altitude. The longer you cook cornstarch, the more it impacts texture, and it depends how long it take for you to get to a boil. I would suggest adding more cornstarch, experiment with how much cornstarch you need to get your result.

Wash your rice , rinse it , let it dry , and then blend it , and there you go .

@@DashyDesu yeah it works , but when you wash your rice , let it soak inside the water until it turns white and then drain it and dry it , I made korean rice cakes with the homemade rice flour and it was sooooooo good .

I saw some recipes in Spanish (my original language) I tried them and- THEY WERE HORRIBLE! Now I'm going to try this recipe tomorrow, I have everything. Edit: I saw a coment below, and mine is SO STICKY! the comment of Dojan5 explains the problem with mine, pls, make a new video

I am a month late, I haven't made mochi before, but from general baking sounds like to didnt flour your hands enough so it stuck to your skin

Hello, I’m a month late as well (again sorry for the late reply) 😭 as said @Flic The Switch: it stuck in your palms because you probably didn’t spread enough cornstarch onto your palms

Yes, it's just that a lot of people think that glutenous white rice has gluten because of the name, but it is actually just referring to the texture of the rice, so she just wants you to use normal rice flour instead of glutenous rice flour.
