My heart hurts reading that he passed away. I remember watching him on my old account years ago when he was on a boat and it was the coolest most delicious episode. What is bizarre is that I often think of him when working with seafood and that is often. I love him though I did not know him. I’m going to make this and name it after him. Thank you for keeping this channel going. It’s incredible as it is delicious. 🦞❤️👨🏻🍳

@@CookingwithShotgunRed I just watched (again) one of Red's videos. I only wish I was one of the fortunate people who knew and enjoyed him during his lifetime. He was so genuine and down to earth, he was comfortable with himself, and loved sharing his enthusiasm with other people. Thanks Sheila for soldering on, I look forward to your recipes as much as I did Reds! You are a gem!

I live in the self proclaimed "Shrimp Capital of the World" (that was then this is now) cue Forrest Gump Fresh Shrimp of any size is so delicious and available here even though Fed Laws have chased most of our Shrimpers to move to Mexico. I don't eat (any) sugar anymore so.... I change up the recipe a bit (well actually a lot) I use unpasteurized Raw Vinegar (not heated either) No Sugar and add Garlic Cloves and Pepper Flakes which / then after a couple days of fermenting really cuts down the amount of sugar from the Onions and DANG it ends up crispy GOOD Onions w some shrimp (because I like Shrimp)

that's a nice container too, its square and fits in the frig without any problem. its food grade too! and I like the wide mouth lid. I will have to try these, im on the gulf coast of Florida, the vinegar cooks the food that is put in it. white or apple cider works the same as long as it is 5% acidity! the flavor is a little different.

I grew up in South Dakota and for the past few years have been living in the Marshall Islands where I fish every chance I get. I'm always looking for a new way to cook my fish up and got to craving the pickled Northerns that my cousin makes up back in SoDak which is when I found the pickled fish video. It's been a big hit (people ask if they can buy it off me...no, but I'll GIVE you a jar) and I'm now I'm really looking forward to giving this shrimp version a try. I tried cutting back the 8/7 vinegar/sugar ratio on the fish to 8/6 and find it's plenty sweet without being too much so, just personal preference. Keep up the great videos!
@CookingwithShotgunRed8 жыл бұрын
Good call... I do the 8/7 or 8/6 split once in awhile. I do the 50/50 so folks can remember it. I figure they will cut the sugar down a bit if they want to. Thanks Again...

s it necessary to use pickling spice at all? Pickling for food preservation does not require any spice. It’s possible to pickle with just vinegar and salt. Any basic vinegar like apple cider, white vinegar, white wine, or rice vinegar is good enough for pickling
