So fun! I love making soap, too, but have never made a batch as large as yours. I liked how you thoroughly explained that goat's milk can be tricky and about the ice bath if it turns orange. And I liked that you talked about and did the PH test. Thanks.

I'm glad they are making efforts to be sustainable and not cut down any more rainforests. There are issues with certifications, always. Even some certified organic foods here are not what they seem... I'm happy that they are making efforts to achieve true sustainability through agriculture.

The main soap that I use is from Ghana. They obtain lye from the ash of plant matter. I recently learned about soapnuts, used in India from ancient times for all their cleaning needs. We have all been provided for ~I give thanks~ I made two batches of soap last night. With one of the two, it was had to distinguish trace. That silvery line could easily have been mistaken for light reflecting off my eyes. In your video, you identified that as trace. So I made a good call last night. Thanks

I sold the soap. Goats milk soap has a creamy nourishing lather that leaves you feeling soft and moisturized. No need for lotion kind of feel so I definitely made it for a reason. Not everyone wants colors and scents in their soap so while it might not appeal to you being uncolored unscented, it is a great soap and many people buy this from me at the farmers market and online. I also use my soap of of course. Also, it is real soap unlike stuff in the store which contains synthetic detergent..

Yes, I use my handmade soap on myself, my pets and my children and have used it on them since they were born. They have great healthy skin! The soap will last indefinitely. Soap gets better with age. I recommend using within a couple of years if you have a lot of extra oils in the soap.

Yes, you can use coconut milk. Just try not to let it cool too much as it can go solid. It's best to have your lye/milk mix under 115 degrees. I like to have it between 85 and 100. Goat milk mixtures will not go solid until much cooler but coconut milk in your lye will go solid as it cools. Keep stirring and watch temps for best results. It might get quite thick but you can still use it. Hope this helps. Coconut milk soap is awesome.

You can embed MP pieces into CP soaps. Lots of soapers are doing neat designs with that technique. As for layering with CP, it's a bit more tricky to layer with CP. It's easier to layer with MP. You layer as soon as you see that the film is strong enough to hold the weight of another layer. With CP, layering is best done by mixing up several batches to let the layers harden enough without completely setting up. If they set up completely you can get separation problems.

@EdentiaFarms @EdentiaFarms Thank you for your informative videos and help! I made goat milk soap doing it your way today, by adding the frozen mushy goat milk to my cooled lye solution. I think this method is great because if your goat milk burns, it is before you put it in your oils, so you can still save the oils by making more lye solution. :) I also covered my counter with newspaper and my scale with a sheet of paper.

Thanks very much for taking the time to make and share this video. Your soap looks good enough to eat! LOL..Ok maybe not eat, but still...looks wonderful! I appreciate how you are very adament about safety too! Anyhow...amazing amount of soap that was fun to watch you make. Really enjoyed the vid. Thanks again. Oh..what tool were you stirring the lye with by the way. I noticed its benefits of not causing any splashing! Good idea, whatever it is.

You can help a soap gel by insulating, putting towels or a bath robe over your closed soap mold. Or, you can force a soap to gel in a 170 degree warm oven. That is called Cold Process Oven Process soap making. I suggest making regular Cold Process before attempting CPOP (in the oven)
@GoodEarthSpa
@GoodEarthSpa 13 жыл бұрын
@1cmirela Yes you can use all goats milk but the color will be darker. Its hard to keep it cold enough to prevent that with all goat milk w/o turning the milk solid. I usually use just enough water to dissolve the lye, let it cool off. idk the temps. I don't take the temp of lye. I just put my hand over the top and "feel" the heat coming off. When its not so intense, I start adding milk. In this recipe I use about half distilled water and half raw goat milk. Experiment with different amounts.

Thank you so much for replying. I love coconut milk and found a recipe for shampoo with coconut milk that is perfect for my hair. Just won't hold long enough to make a larger batch so I don't have to fuss over it every two weeks. I am hoping if I make soap i might be able to make it in advance.

I was taught in college to neutralize a base with an acid, not water. It was a college chemistry class and the topic being discussed was not soap-making but rather safety regarding chemical burns. We kept vinegar in the lab. I keep it in my kitchen. Vinegar is an acid but not strong enough to cause harm to the skin.

I loved this video! I loved your kids running around at the end too lol And besides my own vid (it was showing hot process gel stage) You had the absolute best shot of gel that I have seen on KZbin :o) I have to add though for new soapers that saponification takes place while the soap is " sleeping" That is while it is wrapped in blankets and in a warm place, NOT while it is blended. :o)

Hi I was wondering if I could get the recipe for this soap. Lol but for a beginner. I was wondering if you had it for half this amount. Also I'm in the process of cleaning my tallow. I did one wash last night so I'm planning on doing the next wash tomorrow. Thanks. Anything would help. Oh and where did you get the big bag of lye. Thanks again
@MrTeneric

Well done, thanks. Lye burns are very "sneaky" in that they often just itch until they get very deep into the skin. Also lye tends to be difficult to rinse off which makes vinegar a good rinsing agent. The eyes are a different story though. It takes almost thirty minutes of vigorous rinsing with water to clear the eyes. I would almost rather have battery acid in my eyes than lye. WEAR YOUR GOOGLES EVERYONE! Rinse everything with lots of water. I very much appreciate your safety messages.

Hi Bonnie, I'm in the UK. I'm really interested in making soap. For the past two weeks I've been reading and watching lots of soap makers on KZbin. I can say that up to now you are THE most informative. Can I ask I know that you weigh out the ingredients in ounces, is that normal or fluid? Also I've noticed that you mix you milks with the lye while other mix it with the oils and then add the lye, what is the difference? Need to read and watch a bit more before I feel confident in making my own. Cheers Lorraine :)
@GoodEarthSpa
@GoodEarthSpa 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Lorraine, Thanks for your comment. I weigh in ounces by weight which is different and not the same as fluid ounces. One ounce is 28 grams. Milk soap can be made a variety of ways. I've tried adding milk to the oils and milk to the lye and sometimes I do both in the same batch. I find my process seems to go better when I do add milk to the lye. When I add the milk to the oils I sometimes have separation problems so at least for my own process I think it helps it to mix better.

@GoodEarthSpa
@GoodEarthSpa 11 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. Coconut milk is a little more finicky with temps. Don't let it get too hot or it will scorch but if you let it get too cold, it will solidify. Otherwise, use the same methods. Thanks for your helpful comment/question. Good luck.

No, Dove is a detergent bar but I have had an occasional soap come out to be pH 7. Usually natural soap is between 9-10, which is generally save for skin. The soap is usually mild by 48 hours and most of the cure time evaporates off excess moisture resulting in a harder bar. I recommend 4 weeks or longer for a cure.

@GoodEarthSpa
@GoodEarthSpa 13 жыл бұрын
@mcuffin61 I am doing about 50/50 here of raw milk. You can do all goats milk... hmmm well depends. but you'll probably scald the milk. If the milk is raw it's hard to keep it cold enough not to scald without solidifying the lye because of the high fat content. The fat is what makes the soap so rich and creamy. So, if you use a lower grade commercial pasturized fresh or canned, it would be easier not to scald the milk but the milk is a lower grade. 50/50 with raw makes a super creamy soap.
