Mung beans sprouted in a jar - and my favorite recipe for them.

Mung bean sprouts are the easiest, no effort, no special equipment vegetable to grow. When the garden doesn't produce, these will do fine on the kitchen counter. All you need is mung beans, a jar and water.
(It's best to purchase sprouting seeds from reputable sellers, to ensure optimal sprouting success).

I just watched a guy sprouting beans in 1/2 or 1 gallon water jugs. And then on day 4, he hacks into the water jugs to retrieve the sprouts rendering the jugs useless. I thought that there has to be a better way; so I came across your video and I'm glad I did. Thanks for a better way using reusable materials!

@@homesteadinginnorthflorida I just started my mung beans and they're already sprouting! :) I do have sunflower, but haven't tried them yet and I've seen sunflower grow in soil rather than in a jar. They are all good!

@@carolinefoster1489 - yes, soil for sunflowers. I was completely brainless with my response. I have a microgreen video as well and for some reason was thinking of that. Which doesn't make sense either, since I don't grow mung in soil :) Microgreen radishes and cress are the best! If you ever get bored, you should try.

Very helpful! I sprouted broccoli seeds but didn’t cover it up and now I know why it had a slight bitterness to it but still very delicious.

I think my seed were not really good 😢 because I did all this thing you did and my seeds are not all white like your’s after 3-4 days 😏I am going for 1 more day maybe I get more white sprouts 🤷🏼‍♀️have any idea why not all the seed sprouts? I like it for salad 😊

Oh no. Are they not sprouting at all? Don't give up yet, temperature plays a role as well. If it's really cool, they sprout slower.

@@haydehabdolahian7691 if only half sprouted, I think perhaps your beans are old. :( You may be better off cooking and eating them whole instead of sprouting, and get fresh ones for sprouting.

Why do you cook them ? It kills the goodness they've achieved from sprouting !!!! They're so healthy raw...

I cook them because I like them in recipes. Same for sprouted lentils. We eat plenty of raw and fermented things, so no worries about missing out. :)

Mung beans are mostly just root. If you don't like roots, have you tried growing microgreens? They're only shoots and the roots get discarded.

WHen you cooked the sprouts, you kill the lifeforce in them. Sprouts are very powerful superfoods when eaten raw.

True! I cook most of my sprouts, though. Love the taste cooked and less worry about possible contamination. I do eat all my microgreens raw, though. :)

@@homesteadinginnorthflorida Thank you for your reply. I’m 62 and vegan for 7 years. Recently, I started my raw food journey to try and eat as much raw food as possible. I started sprouting in order to have sprouts to put in my smoothies. I haven’t started growing microgreens. I really want to try that also. I have a question though about the sprouts. You say you cook them to avoid contamination. With what can they be contaminated ?
