i dont like when people say these updates are ruining the game, only because the updates dont have enough content they would enjoy. the game won’t be ruined, just ignore the new features and keep playing like you used to! but i do get that they want new things that they would enjoy

i think one of the big ones that is game breaking for a lot of people who play hardcore is the change in spawn chunks. it makes it so people who rely on their spawn chunks unable to update their game, but i do still agree with you

my problem is that the new updates are all fluff. it's been at least a year since any minecraft update actually UPDATED something about the game-it just adds relatively useless and niche stuff that nobody asked for.

Bedrock player here, 1.20 has been disastrous for bedrock, and no I can't play nor would I play java as I'm on ps4, 1.21 is looking worse and with how bad things are I can't say any good will come from it. So yes updates are not doing good for minecraft atm, and new updates coming aren't much better.

Minecraft toxicity seems to be a lot of people not getting what they want, and whining about it. Almost like looking a gift horse in the mouth. I paid less than $20 for a game that updates several times per year with new content. Not many other games offer you the freedom that Minecraft does for a price tag like that. I think there needs to be more appreciation shown to Mojang for what they do. Additionally, the toxic videos get clicks on KZbin. YT promotes the videos that get clicks more. Ive actively told KZbin to stop suggesting me creators like that, and it does seem to help with my home page toxicity. Highly suggest using this feature. YT has suggested me these videos from Fwhip for the past couple of weeks and im really enjoying them. Definitely earned a sub from me. You’re very insightful! Thanks Fwhip.

As a viewer turned creator, I definitely see the perspective of a creator much more than before. When you are way busy with video making, streaming and balancing it with your daily life, you don't have time to properly analyze generic questions and give a better answer than "just keep building". Granted I can't compete with a measly 350 subs with your millions, but I've had my fair share of building questions that I've answered. What I like to tell people that ask these building questions, is first narrow it down. Find out just one thing you would like to build, then ask questions of how do we get there. Much like discussing with a professor, have your information and questions ready so they can give you direction in whereabout to go from there. If you've put in the effort, the internet will help you out! That learner's mindset definitely helped and using videos like yours to have a baseline on where to start and not the end goal, allowed further creativity in future builds. And I have you to thank for sparking that step into being a creator. My question to you fWhip. What's the biggest growing pains you are still experiencing as a creator to this day?

You are so right about the general questions to clarifying questions. Also, with streams, if you take time to try to answer a general question, that means there are other questions passing by in chat being missed. As for "build better" or "building tips", I'm not at any kind of great builder level, but I find that watching people build things that I find match what I want helps, then changing/customizing to fit myself better. Then, then next time I build something similar, I can do it a little more organically than have to follow the tutorial so closely.

Hey fwhip, this most recent build of the color factory has to be one of my favorites in your world with the use of color theory. I often find myself overwhelemed by the amount of blocks to work with when starting my builds. How do you distribute up the block types in your mind when planning builds and what is your general thought process when planning builds?

I love the bogged it feels a lot more unique than previous biome variants (not really saying much) due to the slower shooting and lower health - I don't think its a large feature but little mob variants like it are a nice change imo. The wind charges are meh imo mostly because of how much they spread out - one of my first thoughts was a funky elevator using them, but they spread out far too much. Plus realistically it will be painful to get like, a few stacks that would make em potentially nice in a minigame or something. Generally I like the snapshots, but mojang's posistion on how to update stuff is kind of hard. The Trial chambers' aren't going to be the most or least easy to find, but their focus is on mid (realistically early) game loot, where in a lot of cases that just kinda doesnt exist. Yet there's nowhere really to go in terms of end-game loot, as top level gear already basically nullifies any challenge you embark on. But target early game and risk making the problem worse by letting people get really good gear early on (shipwrecks kinda), Trial chambers generally seem like a pretty good approach I just realllyy hope the trial spawners and vaults are more universalised. Also hoping they add more brushing stuff, it's relitavely fun to do and if nothing else is a different way to get loot, expanding on loot tables of hardly used game features is a good way to make those activities feel more rewarding and more fun. Hopefully they make fishing more fun, though tbf it is pretty strong - if the luck potions were properly implemented I reckon I'd give it a good shot, I spent ages fishing in terraria because just occassionally chugging potions makes for a good activity to vibe to (though granted, fsr the fishing loot table doesn't seem to have any inclusion of a lot of ocean loot tables, I think something like a fisherman's key which you can use for some of the stronger shipwreck loot for a vault block there could be cool). Also tinkering, the tinkering aspect that was said to be one of two focuses hasn't really gotten nearly the focus as the trial chambers section really, and tbf their focus on redstone has largely been unpopular (copper bulbs delay changing from 1 to 0 ticks, which only affects java anyway since bedrock redstone can't have 1 tick delay - but other java components have e.g. 3 so its not a parity thing).

In regards to the people that are wanting to learn to build better what I’ve been practicing is really analyzing what I like about someone’s build style and or things they do in builds to make them more interesting. Like how they texture thing or how they use sight lines to build. Also even just looking at pictures of things and trying to build them can also be a great exercise, I would start with simple shapes in buildings so nothing that had diagonal or circular structures. Once you are more comfortable building then I would try incorporating the diagonal and circular aspects. Hopefully this can help someone

I gotta say I like the idea of streamers not spending 5 mins solid doing shoutouts throughout the stream - it's not interesting content! I get that people like the reward of the personal attention... I like the idea of "end credits", leaving it to the end of the stream, not interrupting the flow. Asking "how do I build better" is kinda redundant when watching a fwhip stream, cos usually you're talking through what you're doing already. Gotta agree, the Nether Update set an unrealistic bar that people expect each new update to surpass, anything less isn't good enough for some people. There's also a lack of self confidence in people's opinions - "if someone disagrees with me, am I wrong? no! I'm right and must make everyone agree with my opinions!" I guess it's a mark of maturity to accept that other people's different opinions, and different playstyles, are valid. The Trial Chamber is not for me, shrug, I'm sure plenty of people will absolutely love it!

Solid insight on the difficulty of asking questions when you don't know what you don't know, and that extends outside of Minecraft. This is a struggle I had when I was studying at film school and had access to top TOP tier masterclasses, and I wanted to ask questions where I didn't know the answer (the answer often being "practice... do it... network"). Same does go for Minecraft, and that's what creative mode is great for.

fWhip, Thanks for the wonderfully informative ramble! Even though I've been involved with Minecraft for many years, it never ceases to amaze me how much I continue to learn about the game, its history, and the possibilities in its future. These rambles are also great for learning things about related hardware and software, and what's going on in the Minecraft community. The advice about mechanical keyboard noise is especially timely; I recently acquired a new mechanical keyboard, which I am otherwise very pleased with, but I have been astonished about how loud the keys are when I'm not wearing a headset. I'm already looking for a satisfactory solution, whether that's a good set of o-rings, a keyboard mat, or anything else that might be helpful. The thing about cod was particularly interesting: somehow, I missed the lag issue that developed when cod were introduced and proliferating to an excessive extent. That cod have been the target of much subsequent disparagement has been a mystery to me. Now I have understanding. You may not realize just how enlightening some of the little tidbits you drop can be. Keep it up! I appreciate all of it and am looking forward to your next similar ramble.

Warning, rant ahead :) As a SWE I feel like a lot of it stems from a misunderstanding about how the development process works. Developers write code, they don't (usually, outside of tiny two-person teams, which Mojang are not) decide on what features will get added to the game. They can share ideas, but usually the main decision gets made by a product team. So people talking about "lazy devs" because they aren't adding the features you want, are really yelling at the wrong people. (Though it's not ok to yell at product people either. They do a really difficult job.) That's just for a start. Second, the gaming community (gamers specifically) tend to really under-value things like performance improvements and bug fixes. These things can be immensively complicated. Some "performance improvements" can take a whole team 1year+ to get off the ground. But these things aren't glamorous so they don't get praised in an update. That's a real shame, because performance improvements are vital to the longevity of any game (or indeed any codebase in general). It can also be really hard for business decision makers to prioritise performance improvements and bug fixes over shiney new features (that tend to bring in new players and make more money). That's depsite the fact that bad performance can easily kill a game, and bad code can make features take 10x longer to add (we call this "legacy code" and it's not-fun). So, I think gamers in general really don't get that just because your favourite feature isn't getting added, that doesn't mean the game is static or dying. It means another priority came up. The alternative is pushing devs to work excessive overtime. That hustle culture is something we really need to move away from as an industry cus it destroys people. In 2022 I contracted covid-19. I was working on a big project (ironically fixing a guy's code who had left the company and left a feature in a gigantic mess). I suffered from long-covid with chronic fatigue, occular migraines, sudden boughts of lathary and weakness. Trying to code with an illness that was negatively effecting my brain and my ability to think was one of the worst moments of my life. You know what makes occular migraines worse? Stress. Stress can literally kill you. My boss was horrid. He made me work extra two hours (unpaid) overtime each day and a solid 3 weekends in a row. That's right, I didn't even get a day off for nearly a month. That's illegal in my country. But what could I say? The code got written and guess what? It caused an outage in production. Turns out, the issue that caused the outage was a performance issue. I made a few suggestions on how we could fix the performance issue. My bosses response? "performance doesn't matter, you just need to work more overtime". TLDR: Devs are not (usually) lazy. In fact, most tend to be workaholics taken advantage of by hustle culture. So the fact that mojang aren't killing their devs trying to meet a deadline to add your favourite feature, is a good thing. And adding performance improvements and bug fixes is just as (if not more) important then adding new features. Let's not encourage poor practices in our industry, overworked and stressed devs get sick and write bad code.

Which is just a small peaceful village for people who didn’t like living in Path anymore because maybe it was to expensive to live there I’m imagining like a Japanese style area

The problem with minecraft is the players. LOL. So as you said minecraft is a sandbox game. People play the game differently. Some like to just build, some like to speed run, some like combat, etc. Mojang cannot possibly make everyone happy. I love minecraft but I'm not that strong on building and I get tired after about 2 hours of playing. I think some of the issues with the upcoming version is the loot on the trial chambers. It's going to be ok or good for someone who starts a new world. But for someone that has an old world they just keep playing on, the trial chambers won't be as productive. You'll probably go once just to say you did it and check it out, and then you're done. I think they missed the mark on the warden. I wish they would have given the warden a special drop or something more. But all that said, I love playing minecraft and will continue to do so until they stop supporting the game.

The whole Mojang is lazy thing is hard for me, because I can never tell if it's true. Mostly because I find the answers they give the community when people say, "hey why don't you do this?" Or, "hey why don't you do that?" To be, _very_ lazy. It's almost always been, "it'll stifle creativity" even if there is literally evidence to prove them otherwise. Like in the case of sideways slabs. Mods have had them for YEARS and people have made AMAZING builds with them. _Having more options doesn't limit creativity, limiting options doesn't inspire creativity, it brute forces it._ I don't know, Mojang can come off as lazy, because sometimes their answers to the community are lazy. It doesn't mean the work they put in to code something properly is any less, but it also doesn't look good on their part. This does not mean that I think Mojang is lazy, because I don't. It just means they really need better answers to things like this. 😂

Mojang should genuinely scrap the mob vote and just ask the community of what we want instead of pinning the community against each other. The concept makes sense but its dysfunctional. I understand they want to give the community a chance to voice their opinion but if they just let the community create the ideas together then we won't have to worry about another "Boycott the Mob Vote!" thing lol. Mojangs updates are small but majority of them are pretty good and overtime have improved the game without taking away its esscense which is challenging to do. Plus hating on minecraft developers for something thats not their fault is wrong in my opinion. Notice how they add a bunch of stuff out of nowhere on april fool snapshots. Bc it doesnt have to go through the process microsoft requires them to go through for something what will officially be implemented to the game. I bet they are just as upset as the cumminity about it but unlike the community they take the blame
