So I made this recipe, didn’t have pine nuts, so I Substituted it with soaked raw chopped walnuts also added in minced shallots. The seasoning was spot on, but still needed more chewiness. So I decided to get beyond meat, grounded meat less, they use pea protein, and is vegan friendly. Mixed 1/4 package w 1/4 mix of the original vegan long silky recipe. I was amazed!! Still tasty, has that meat texture. I will try using only beyond meat product with out any soy products. but I do like my tofu. Also there’s another meatless meat substitute I’d like to try called Quorn, they uses fungus(mushroom) as meat protein. Quorn uses egg white as a binding agent, but can also use potato protein for vegan option, just read ingredients to find what you need. They both have ground meatless options. I love this longanisa recipe. You know when you got those longanisa burps from a good meal and can still can taste the flavor? I still get those from this recipe. Super delicious.

If you don't have liquid smoke, you can also use the smoke from activated charcoal. Just put the longanisa on a tray with a couple activated charcoal pieces and cover with foil. The smoke should give that authentic flavor.

Hi Sophia! You could use dried oyster mushrooms (I heard that's more available in the Philippines). You could also skip liquid smoke. The liquid smoke is for a smoky sausage flavor. In the video, you added breadcrumbs after marinating. But on the website, it says to add it beforehand. Which is correct? Please answer A.S.A.P. as I am making this right now as i type this! 😊😊
@astigvegan8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Just saw your comment. I hope it's not too late. You may add before and after. The written recipe on the website is an update. Basically, you want to add the breadcrumbs before marinating to soak the liquid and add more after marinating to create a firmer texture. In other words, it could be either way or both. I hope that clarifies!

It is quite different from what I know as longaniza but I have never had non-vegan filipino food so I have no reference point.

Vegan Bartender Hi! So sorry for the delayed response. You could use coconut vinegar to make Vegan Sisig. Yum! Feel free to find the Sisig video in this channel. You could also use coconut vinegar in other recipes that call for white vinegar. Coconut vinegar is sweeter and more complex than white vinegar. I haven't had longaniza before but I could tell you that the Filipino version is sweet and savory. Kind of like a sweet chorizo. I hope you give it a shot. Looking forward to hear all about it!
