I am curious to plug the back pack into a Ryobi 40v battery generator :P That would be interesting, cost would be crazy too but it would have 12 batteries in four back packs. LoL it would look crazy but would be interesting for science.

Honestly. It could work as it would draw power from just one slot. Ill have to see if I can get my hands on a generator and test it out 😅. But not sure I have use for 3 - 4 backpacks

A better idea, specially for the grass trimmer... A Regular, light backpack where you will carry two extra large batteries, trimmer line, drinking water, your phone and other needed items, (all well protected against sun dust, drop impacts and rain), so that when you start a major trimming/clearing job you will be able to keep going for 3.5 to 5 hours without having to go back to your base station/starting point. Just a well design light back pack, for less than $50... is what a lot of us need.

With a large, over 200wh, battery you will be trimming non stop well over an hour. Time to take a break, change the battery and drink some water....
@zekigpr
@zekigpr 2 жыл бұрын
Two large (over 220wh each) batteries, or three smaller (about 145wh each) batteries for a total of about 450 wh... If you use your trimmer Smartly you should get about 4 hours of continuous work...
@zekigpr
@zekigpr 2 жыл бұрын
Miscalculation on my part. One large battery on the trimmer and two in the backpack will give you over 600 Wh. Likewise one smaller, 144wh battery on the trimmer and three in the backpack will give you about 576 wh. Enough for over 4 hours of continuous work, before going back to the starting pint

They now have a hip belt model that uses 2 batteries. It would be cool is they had to 18v adapter setup for

I'll have to check that out, havent heard of it. But my issue with those hip belt style setups is they always drag your pants down which is a pain

It's good that this exists but it just seems big and annoying being tethered to things.I like to see some sort of adapter that clips into the slot and then two slots off to the sides to plug in 2 battery
@thehousemann
@thehousemann Жыл бұрын
The two extra batteries would be on the sides of the actual tool? I think the issue there would be the weight of the tool + batteries. I've used the backpack less and less because it doesn't make sense unless you are going deep into a forest or bush where you have to bring the batteries with you. For everyday home owner use. It's just easier to swap out the battery once it dies. It's maybe a 30 second interruption
@leighclark969
@leighclark969 Жыл бұрын
@@thehousemann yeah the two batteries would hang out ether side as to not get in the way of a handle. I'd actually like to see a single battery version of the backpack that clips onto a belt or small across the chest and back belt/harness with a smaller tethered adapter to take the weight off or the tool. Those 6ah get heavy
@thehousemann
@thehousemann Жыл бұрын
@@leighclark969 I like the idea of a belt clip style. Most of the weight would be supposed by your hip bone allowing it to be stable.

Any word on the price? Also, there currently are no 4 port 40v Ryobi chargers. I feel like that power brick is a sign of things to come. Possibly a bigger backpack in the future?
@thehousemann
@thehousemann 2 жыл бұрын
No info on price atm. I was talking to a buddy and we agree on the charger. Probably will be used for future tools, I'm thinking heavier duty tools that take more batteries, like generators or the larger mowers. As for loading more batteries into the backpack, I'm doubtful on that, it's already rather hefty with just 3. But it's not an impossible idea

So it does nothing to make the tool lighter. It just allows you more run time. I think it would be better to make a small connector coming from the battery pack. That way the tool becomes lighter and you still benefit from three batteries.
@thehousemann

The connector is for the most part hollow. It's Def lighter than a full blown battery

Will the backpack allow an 7.5Ah & 12.0Ah to fit into the three ports ?
@thehousemann
@thehousemann 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry don't have the 7.5 or 12 to test. The biggest 40v I have is a 4ah. Just doing a quick clearance test from the inside. You have about 4.5" of height inside the shell. The 4ah comes in at 3" measuring the battery rail. So depending on how tall the battery is, it might work. Official compatible battery part #s are: OP40125, OP40201, OP40204, OP40261, OP40301, OP40401, OP40404, OP40501, OP40504, OP40601, OP40602, OP40603, OP40604, OP40605, OP40752, OP40753, OP40804

Although I think personally you did a great job with your video it doesn’t seem to have any value as a tool to spend over $400 and get zero more run time doesn’t really make sense although it looks like it works great as a charger for 119 bucks you can buy Ryobi three battery 40 V charger that works the same way and it’s not that difficult to put a six amp hour battery in and then swap it for another one that you carry it with you carrying 26 amp hour batteries only adds the weight of one battery carrying that backpack not only adds the weight of the second battery but the 12 pounds of the unit and the total pain of the neck of the cord going from the unit to your tool in the way of that and the fake battery why wouldn’t Ryobi simply take the advice of thousands and thousands and thousands of customer And simply do what their competitors have already done several years ago simply come out with a 12 amp hour battery although it would be twice the way you would use it for only big jobs like your lawnmower or an inverter or other tool that you don’t have to lift and if you really wanted to you could use it in a leave blower or a Weedwhacker in any case Wyomi is trying to improve things and I like that and again thank you for your video you did a great job

Thanks for watching, and I absolutely agree. I think where this unit will really shine is if you have travel far from your "station" where you keep your batteries or if you're pruning on a lift or anything where the batteries to swap just aren't accessible.

@@thehousemann plus electric tools are already lighter than gas. So adding a couple ounces to a battery isn’t a concern. I wish they would’ve went with 60 volt. I love the outdoor tools they make but they just don’t have the runtime of my Greenworks equipment. Like it’s pretty bad comparison wise. But one thing about technology is that it just keeps getting better.
