As a Greek I have to say this is one of the most important lessons, people interested in learning Greek should try to understand and go deeper. If you manage to clear this out, you will instantly be well above average in speaking Greek. Almost all non-Greeks trying to learn Greek, really mess this up 9 times out of 10. It's one of the easiest ways to spot a non-native Greek speaker, when you hear someone use one form of a verb in every instance, as is in English language for example, which is much more simplistic but lacks the richness, the power of expression and semantics and eventually the beauty of Greek (am a little biased here).

It was extremely interesting! The concept seems to be similar to the perfect verbs and continuous verbs in the Slavic languages. However, it is more differentiated, since it can be used in present tense as well. Fascinating how complex this Greek concept is! I try to imagine how difficult the concept of subjective and transitive inflictions of my mother tongue, Hungarian could be for a non native speaker...
@EasyGreekVideos4 жыл бұрын
Probably much harder than you imagine! :D
@fzpe8564 жыл бұрын
Árpád Lantos Hungarian verbs have 3 moods: indicative, conditional and subjunctive / imperative. The indicative has a past and non-past tense. The conditional has a non-past tense and a past form, made up of the past tense indicative as the finite verb with the non-finite verb volna. The subjunctive only has a single tense. Basically, the verb system in the indoeuropean languages is more complex and overall more difficult. In spanish, for instance, is far more complex and with much more irregularities.

@@lukemontano3994 I agree. Im Greek so I know how to use the subjunctive naturally in Greek and it is way more complicated and more used than the Spanish subjunctive due to the fact that modern Greek doesn't have infinitives. I have previously learned French and Spanish to at least an intermediate level (being able to read most of what I encounter online), languages which also have a subjunctive: it does seem there are differences; nevertheless, I do wonder if knowledge of these languages can help with Greek.
@EasyGreekVideos9 ай бұрын
It definitely helps, although the subjunctive is used a bit differently than in those languages.
@seamus60168 ай бұрын
I think the term "subjunctive" is a bit misleading. The uses of the subjunctive in Spanish or French are certainly different from the υποτακτική. Perhaps "aspect," as it is used for the Slavic languages, would come closer to a real description of what is going on here - although it wouldn't be a perfect fit...
@EasyGreekVideos8 ай бұрын
@@seamus6016 When I was learning Spanish, knowledge of the ypotaktiki certainly gave me an advantage when learning the subjuntivo. It's not 1-to-1 and use of the ypotaktiki is more complicated than in Spanish I believe, but still, there are many parallels.
