How to Maximise your Lung Capacity | Take a Full Breath or Final Breath for Freediving

A full breath of air in your lungs makes a huge difference for your diving. Maximising your lung capacity is easy. All you need to do is learn how to better control your respiratory muscles. It's all about coordination and practice.
Once you know how to take a larger breath longer breath holds will become easier. In the end of the day this is all aimed at making your breath holds longer and more comfortable. To do this we separate the lungs 3 different sections. Three different muscle groups that we are able to use to expand outward and inhale more deeply.
If you're keen to check out our online freediving school go to www.freedivingmanual.com

Hey Adam, a bunch of KZbinrs use patreon as a sort of "tip jar". It's a good way to support yourself doing this, and a good way for your viewers to give directly to you instead of being forced to ask for likes. You deserve something for all this knowledge you share! Think about it! I'd certainly throw a few dollars at you for all this. Thanks again, Adam.

As a skateboarder, it feels like packing too early is the diving equivalent of learning to Ollie and then skipping all of the basics and going straight for the kick flip. I did this and learned later that I sacrificed so much board control and stability just for the sake of skipping ahead.

@AdamFreediver
@AdamFreediver 6 жыл бұрын
jaspah lanham you shouldn't worry too much about your heart rate. It's really not as important as people seem to think. If you keep your movements slow and keep your body loose and relaxed the rest will take care of itself :)

Thanks so much for the info! I'm finding I'm able to hold my breath longer by exhaling little bits of air every 15-20 seconds. Is that the right/wrong way to do it or is it cheating a bit?
@AdamFreediver
@AdamFreediver 6 жыл бұрын
the reason you're feeling better when you do that is because you're releasing bits of C02 as you exhale but you're also releasing oxygen and for longer breath holds you will need it! haha with your current method you'll black out much earlier

This is weird because, even if I'm not going deeper than 20m, if I take too much air, I have diaphragm contractions and can't stay longer than a dive with a normal deep breath.

This video refers to lungs expanding as if that's what they do naturally. A better model is to find a beer bottle or glass soda bottle and a balloon. Fill the bottle with steam by holding it over a kettle's spout (use tongs, it's hot). Quickly right the bottle and get the opening of the balloon over the mouth of the bottle. If you did it right, the balloon will be sucked into the bottle and held in that shape by a vacuum. This is what the lungs are doing in your chest. They are trying to contract but are dragged open by a vacuum that holds them (in essence) to the ribs, diaphragm, etc. A minor difference, but if you ever see a "collapsed lung" it's actually a broken seal ruining this vacuum.

fab videos really really appreciate follow along. would you consider nasal breathing for your breath ups snd final breath? working w runners the nitric oxide from nasal breathing is a vasodilator and in apnea work helps w co2 and lactate. to say nothing of filtering air and warming it - similarly snorkling by mouth rather than face mask is going to affect co2 levels that could affect dive? runners too are reluctant often to explore nasal breathing - but once they do its a power boost without trying for power could this not perhaps benefit freediving? or perhaps this is already a convo in your tribe? thank you again -mc

Adam,Hello from Greece! Thanks for the great videos!! I am new to free diving.. You taught me the Frenzel technique, now you are teaching me how to breathe properly :) A question: Can i do this exercise sitting on a chair, because I have a problem with my waist and I do not feel comfortable with the posture you show?
