I just unpacked my fall/winter clothes here in TX and noticed how dark everything was. After the long Spring and Summer seasons filled with so much color and pattern that I love, I took a look at my capsule and said 'I have GOT to add some color!' This reminder (re-watch of your video) is perfect timing. You always know what your students need.

I really enjoy these videos, Daria, and I'm really glad you chose cool colors! I sometimes wear light colors--today I wore off-white and light grey. I would say maybe 30% of my winter wardrobe is lighter but something about dark colors makes me feel warmer & cozier. I'd love to see a new video where to take "existing" items that aren't fully interchangeable and edit them/ add a few new pieces to make it work.

I like to use white or light blue as a base and then add a pop of other colour. Like, I have an orange sweater that looks pretty awesome with some light blue jeans. Or nude/pink with blue also works quite well! I used to wear all-black all of the time, so wearing lighter colours was a huge change for me, but I never regret expanding my views.

Ah! Finally light colours for winter! There's always so much black, navy and grey in winter. Thanks for showing us how to do it. I don't own any light colours (winter clothes) so this is a challenge but at least I can start thinking about it for when I need to replace a piece.

You know, after I said these are not "my" colors, I thought, "Maybe I should try it. Spring is around the corner, and I'm a little bored of all this burgundy..." Today I'm wearing two pieces I had never put together before: a pair of very light gray trousers, and a soft blue-green sweater. The combination is making me quite happy. I even got my heirloom Alexandrite ring out of storage, and it's amazing how good its teal-to-magenta changing colors look with this outfit! Thank you again, Daria. Your creative spark lights other people's fires!

This has become my favourite video of yours, it is very nice learning how you work on the capsule wardrobes. I have a mostly light grey wardrobe, as it is my favourite colour and I love wearing monochrome outfits in grey! However, I often feel like it looks like I am wearing a "pyjama outfit" if I don't incorporate (grey) denim, but I would like to dress more classical without loosing the monochrome and somewhat edgy look, and without looking like a pyjamas.

Hey Daria, I love your capsules! and I love to wear color, specially in winter. Sometimes I do some crazy mix that for some people make not sense, and other times if I want to be more sober I would add at least one layer with a bold color, and for that I am fan of colorful cardigans. For example blue denim, white sneakers maybe with some details, print tshirt, PINK CARDIGAN and wine red teddy coat. Another can be long flowered dress, YELLOW CARDIGAN, black suede oversized coat and black boots. Thanks for the inspo!

Wonderful, professional and personable! Your work is marvelous and helpful. I would not have considered a capsule wardrobe because most advocates, as you note, seem to take away all the art and color and creativity in the process, which seemed unpleasantly restrictive to me, although I saw the appeal also. As a "creative" with a sober business life--I'm a tax lawyer, and a sometime artist/writer, so your journey from environmental law to fashion activist quite charmed me!-- I've started playing with colors (yes, paint chips into little squares just in my favorite colors) to attempt some of your recommendations. I have questions about the "neutral" category. I can see gray blues, navy, or dark greens, olive and khakis as neutrals, wondering if you agree? How about browns and golds as neutrals? Is it saturation that makes a neutral in the dark ranges and "whiteness" at the light end? Also, I can find few items of clothing I want to wear and will be sewing, remaking and altering...including lingerie, because I do know what I want but cannot find it, both styles and colors seem elusive. Lucky for me, my grandmother (who sewed for a designer in NY just after WWII) taught me SO much, including how to identify fabric by it's feel. Thank you for the findings videos, just delightful, and for sparking these memories and a renewed interest in sensible ethical homemade couture.

Six and a half minutes of pure pleasure, Daria. Fun to see you playing with your color chips! I love the white sneaks in this wardrobe, but for winter and for variety the white boots aren't doing it for me. In so many of the outfits they create an unanchored feel; for me a more practical choice would be a pair of boots in a color similar to the mushroomy "main" color which would be a lot more practical for winter weather. Thanks for sharing your inspired creativity with us!
@heidimordhorst63405 жыл бұрын
P.S. It was really great to see the jacket added at the end. A big difference in your styling is that there is rarely any layering, and even in my job as a primary teacher I feel more professional (and more prepared for the vicissitudes of school heating!) if I have a cardigan or jacket layer. In my wardrobe I have an e*ual number of layers, tops and bottoms. You might always include one jacket option for folks like me!

Yes! I agree that dark cacao shade can be a perfect choice for this wardrobe. Of course white boots are not practical for most of us. But I like the concept anyway haha. I have started to "lighten up" my wardrobe by adding lighter neutrals or near-neutrals. I am medium toned, medium contrast, so mostly lighter colors are in the upper part of my body. Now I put myself a rule that every time I dress there must be light color at least somewhere. For example, if I have a dark grey turtleneck, black pants, dark shoes, then I wear a light grey or off-white cardigan. Or I add a lighter colored scarf. I don't use much of light color in the bottom because my lower part is a bit heavy. In winter, like in any other seasons, I wear a mix of different tones, both dark, medium and light

I recognize the ivory shirtdress, it's from Arket! an H&M daughterbrand I am kind of on the fence about. They are a lot more transparent and sustainabla than the other H&M brands, but for a big part still not and it's still H&M...What do you think about Arket? Edit: Talking about the shirtdress, I feel you could have layered some of the sweaters over it. As an Autumn, I do not wear a lot of light colours. Maily blushes, peaches and yellows, but that's mainly because my 'lights' are annoyingly uncommon! I would love to see more mint, light greens such as pea green and celery green, butter yellows, peaches and so on. These colours are very difficult to find, as cool colours and/or bright colours seem to be more popular for spring and summer.

@wonderwardrobe5 жыл бұрын
Oh well, COS used to be my favorite shop and it was the hardest one to give up. I also like their designs but they don’t use eco materials and don’t say anything about their suppliers or working conditions. And knowing that it’s H&M’s brand I have very little trust in them. So I did gave it up eventually. It was weird at first because I didn’t know where to shop affordable and stylish clothes, but in time I found new and better alternatives. Now I couldn’t care less about COS hehe

Arket which is also H&M’s brand is very similar to COS style and price wise but at least they use eco materials. So you could start from there before you find better brands in the future.

I think "winter white" is a great start for incorporating light colors. It begs for a similarly light or ice-cream colored complement. Heather grays also ask for a lighter color to make it an outfit pop. The one winter color everyone wears is red, but that's not really a light color. Pink, I think?!, might be great in winter.

I really enjoy your videos, especially paintings colour palettes. Although I have one suggestion, eye loves balance so mixing cold and warm colours in one look usually looks better than just cold/warm palette. I understand that you create you work with colour analysis in mind but bottom parts of the outfit are not really that important when it comes to matching skin tones. I would love to see cold-warm colour mixes.
@wonderwardrobe5 жыл бұрын
Where did you learn that a mix of cold and warm colours create balance? And colour typology is not about skin tones, it’s much more complex than that.
@mirandaosmelak4805 жыл бұрын
Mix of cold and warm colours create beautiful combinations like complimentary, split complimentary, triads and tetrads, you will never create any of those if you limit yourself on just cold or just warm colours. There is nothing quite as interesting as yellow plus blue or purple etc. And some people say hair and eyes matter for colour typology, others that just skin tone (merriamart, I recommend her videos). One way or another trousers, shoes, belts, handbags are all parts of an outfit that really will not make us look bad or pale so worth having a play there. Ofc do with this comment whatever you want, no reason to get defensive. You do great work!
@wonderwardrobe5 жыл бұрын
It’s possible to match cold and warm colours together in one look and in fashion it’s used only for advertising (fashion shows/magazine editorials, makeup editorials) all the time to make specific items to stand out. In image consulting we don’t use these type of colour combinations because our aim is to make a person to stand out not an item he’s wearing. Anyway like in any creative field pro image consultants use colour in a special way with specific goals in mind. Plus all the colours you’ve mentioned can be cold or warm or even neutral ;) Colour typology is not only about your face, it’s about the whole look, about harmony and balance, the impression you make on other people and much more... I am not being defensive, I am just trying to understand where did you get that info and what makes you believe you know better 😊
@mirandaosmelak4805 жыл бұрын
Well, for me blue is a cold colour, there can be warmer blue and colder blue but ultimately blue is a cold colour. On colour wheel used for any form of visual art blue is always cold. The system you talk about made up some extra assumptions that I disagree with. You do not seem interested in taking any points which is fair enough, nothing wrong with having a strong opinion. So we must agree to disagree;).

I never wear light colors, not even in summer. But it was refreshing to see light colors for winter outfits. I wonder if you have heard of Kibbe types - it would be great to see wardrobe examples for those. All I can find on the internet are just so stereotypical. I am a flamboyant natural, but I just can't picture myself in long gypsy skirts with boho jewelry - I bet there must be other, more stylish options.

@wonderwardrobe5 жыл бұрын
The Wonder Wardrobe course can help you figure that out! There are some special colour tests there that work and are easy to perform. In case you won’t manage to figure it out by yourself, you could upload your photo in the classroom so I can take a look and help you. I wouldn’t trust internet or private random opinions in this case. People think they know everything when they don’t. You can also always hire a pro image consultant for a colour analysis.
@forisma5 жыл бұрын
The outfits are beautiful! Although I really have my doubts about these colors being cold. I am a Summer type, and I find the grey you chose rather brownish (myself I buy an icy grey, a brownish grey makes me look pale), there are dirty pink, and brown colors in the palette, which I cannot wear as well. Generally, light colors is something I need to be very careful with. I found this color palette more suitable for the spring types. At least, the tops which are close to the face.
