I often get the feeling that although many people like to wear black, a lot of people also find it unapproachable. Not to mention that where I come from black is still the colour of grief, which means that people tend to analyze you and your mood, because of what you're wearing. (I do think that it might be true to an extent, but *only* to an extent.) So, adding these quite neutral colours can make a huge difference. It can take away a bit of the "seriousness" of black. Oh, and also patterns can work magic in that regard.

I've often thought that people who wear all black garments all the time are simply being lazy. (Not talking about those who are under cultural restraints). I'd be interested in why someone prefers only wearing black when there are so many other color choices that might suit their style, like deep navy for example. It's true that pastels don't suit everyone's skin/hair coloring, but unrelieved black (all the time) when not under some kind of restriction, like being a nun, seems...excessive.
