Not gona lie. The sm7b is the hardest mic ive had when it comes to mixing. You did great mixing this. Maybe the mid frequencies still need to be take down a bit. Great video though

i like the signal, but after the SSL EQ i find the voice no longer sounds strong enough in the middle. the first EQ did everything right, i would maybe pull out the nasal sound at 6-800 hz with the first EQ and put a dynamic bell at 100-220 hz - then parallel compression. unfortunately you can hear the voice too much after the processing. there is a difference whether a vocal sounds clean because it is clean or whether it sounds clean because too much has been removed, then it is clean but no longer has any substance or naturalness happy mixing :) thanks for video

I’m using the smb7 mic for my recordings and I’m Inlove with it ! This video helps a lot ! I’m still trying to figure out which one is best for vocals recording… bass roll off or presence boost ?

Honestly me I don’t use anything, I record with the line in the back of the mic completely flat and I’m doing all the ajustement when I mix the vocals. Thanks for watching!!

Do you use a cloudlifter or anything? I heard the sm7b is a quiet microphone

I do! It’s not the cloudlifter but it’s a Dm1 dynamite, it’s the same thing but half the price. The sm7b it’s a very quiet microphone, it’s super good if you have an untreated room it doesn’t catch all the reflection on the wall,the cloudlifter or the dm1, will give you a clean boost in gain so you don’t have to increase too much the volume and record all the floor noise. How come your raw rap vocal sounds so flat, when it sounds very boomy when you are talking in the tutorial?

The settings on the back of my Shure SM7B are all flat. I haven't adjusted the line in, I prefer not to touch the mic EQ and do everything during mixing. Regarding the boomy sound in the tutorials when I'm speaking into the mic, there's no processing - it's all directly from the interface. Thanks for watching!
