I'm not a dude, can I still comment? I have noticed how well getting rid of one thing at a time works. I started over 10 years ago simply buying cereal without high fructose corn syrup. Which led to no cereal at all and now it's on our dessert list. Thanks for the nudge to keep going even many years later where I just have to keep choosing new small things that make a big difference at the end of the day.

I needed this today. I've been following you guys for years and have always been very active. Three years ago my wife was diagnosed with a rare cancer that derailed our lives. All of my time, energy, and money went into prolonging her life. Now, I am two months away from the first anniversary of her passing. I am struggling to do anything but maybe I can start with the little things.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. 💔 I hope that you find an activity to get you moving again and keep you busy. Let me know if I can help on your jump rope journey

I began my weight loss journey about a year and a half ago, and I did exactly as you advised. I started with my diet; in my case, I respond better to more drastic changes, so I switched to a ketogenic diet. Within two months, I went from 79 to 74 kilograms just by changing my diet, which motivated me to start doing push-ups every other day, aiming to reach 100 push-ups daily for a week. My weight remained the same, but I felt stronger. Later, I started skipping rope and stopped the ketogenic diet, opting instead to count calories. This helped me reach 71 kilograms. I joined a gym and now skip rope 4 to 5 times a week, weighing 67 kilograms. I've reduced my body fat from 19% to 11%. The entire process felt almost effortless because I took it slow. Nowadays, it's not about discipline or motivation for me. I skip rope and work out because I genuinely can't imagine not doing these activities-I'm addicted. It took a year, and yes, there were times I felt demotivated and thought I couldn't progress further. But I just kept going and now I've reached my goal. What Dan says about habits is true, but you only believe and understand it when you experience it yourself. I honestly can't go more than two days without working out or skipping rope.

Do not make a big deal is key!!! Every time I tried to start an exercise routine or change my diet, it was always a huge, monumental deal that I would work myself up to for weeks by binge eating to say "good bye" to snacks, carbs and sugar "forever". Thank you for the tips!

I'm the same way with doughnuts. The amount that I can eat in a matter of minutes is absolutely appalling. A lot of people say, "Everything in moderation" and "We binge on what we restrict." Honestly, I consider that complete nonsense. Anyone who has ever been overweight and/or has gained a lot of weight in a short amount of time knows the drug-like effect certain foods have. They don't scratch an itch; they just make you want more. Ultimately, I think minimizing or entirely eliminating certain kryptonite foods to be healthy is a sound strategy that is worth it in the long run.

My first tiny habit change? No food after dinner. It’s made a huge difference!! I’m 40 lbs lighter after 10 months. I don’t do cheat meals….a cheat bite or two does the trick. My second habit I’m just now developing is skipping rope!! Starting very slowly, as advised and jumping a few minutes every other day.

Like what Dan said, whenever I am on a streak of jumping rope I always choose to eat less and more on healthy foods. It's crazy but my body craves for a better option over tasty fat food. I’ve always relied on my work to keep me in shape; I worked in forestry so I had lots of time walking around in the hills, basically. I had a bad start last year including an injury but trying again with realistic expectations and objectives “ 2 30 min at gym a week… then 3 30 min…. Work up to three 1 hr. Get jump rope back into the mix.

Dude, I so know what you are saying about snacks in the house (or flat/apparent in my case), it’s an absolute killer! Thank you so much for reminding me of this, I did it years ago to great effect, but then the small bad habits started creeping in and now I have a wobble cushion for a waistline. I wanted to note about the “Kid’s snacks sabotaging your diet” I have a son and I don’t allow junk food in the house. I feel as though many people use that as an excuse. However, I think it’s vital to build habits early on… If we grow up as adults struggling with weight why would we enable our children to eat junk? Parents shouldn’t allow non nutritious snacks in their household…

I'm still quite on the beginner curve but I do have a question, would an exercise of jumprope for like 30 seconds then walk for like 5 to 10 mins and back to jumprope for another 30 seconds and keep doing that for like half an hour to 45 mins would help with fat loss? Since I am not sure if my smart watch is right but it reads I'm at zone 4 or 5 on my heart rate for the majority of the time.

Carpal tunnel is impacted by the nerves that run through your arms and fingers, stretching and massage can help and ice packs for inflammation. When jumping rope, you challenge your forearms a lot and this can make carpal tunnel feel worse. Take it slow, rest when needed...

Cut out sugar is a really important thing for health forsure you dont have to completly cut it out of life but a lot of our sugar is unnecessary.
