I’m slowly losing the weight I gained during Covid (very slowly!) and when I’m heavier I hide my body in shapeless clothes, which I realize only makes me look heavier. This video is a helpful reminder that although it may feel counterintuitive to wear a more shapely silhouette when we’re over our ideal weight, it actually looks more flattering than boxy shapes. There was a show called “What Not to Wear” that demonstrated this trick and your video reminded me of it. Thank you 🌷

Sara!!!! YAY!!! So excited to see you and fellow Frummies today! I have missed ALL of you. And a huge, HUGE hug to you, Sara! I do hope you're ok... family, friends... I feel I can speak for us Frummies when I say this... you have created such an amazing online community filled with love and support. We've def missed you, and we are very, VERY thankful for every video - every live premiere, every personal little reply to our comments. There is a LOT that goes into making these videos that most of us viewers are entirely clueless about. It's a bunch of work that usually goes unrecognized - and, due to menopause yanking the rug out from under me, I'm suddenly way too aware of just how many "thankless tasks" we undertake everyday. I'm trying very hard to keep you in mind as I do things, and the past few days - progress. 😊 Reframing my POV from "i have to..." (grumble) to "I GET to..." (a stirring of excitement) works... as long as I keep working at it. Lol. And for that alone, but ohhhh so much more my dear Sara, I will forever be thankful that you are a friend.

When I say I love you: I really really do and I am so so grateful for you and everyone of our Frum it up family ❤️❤️❤️ Thank YOU for being my ongoing reminder that all the little things done in the background are important and seen You make me feel seen Xoxox your Sara Malka ❤️❤️

I always buy cinch-waisted skirts as I'm pretty pear shaped (35-27-41)! Hiding my waist is always a no-no for me even at my age (63). Most fortunately, I'm 68" tall (ty Lord!) and don't have a problem with maxi skirts, which I love wearing to church. Ty for your pointers, which are always a huge blessing!

Thank you for these tips! I love to look my best! 🙂 Because I'm only 5'3", I usually dress in monochrome black. I also do color blocking, using a bright jewel tone amongst the black. I love to look my best! Thank you for all the great tips, Sarah. I have a wardrobe full of trousers of all lengths and styles but over the last few years I intentionally started getting more skirts to feel more feminine. Well, as someone who's used to wearing trousers, styling the skirts has been a real challenge and I've arrived at some of the tips you mentioned simply by trial and error but I still struggle with the odd case of "frumpy". A great video I'll be returning to in the future!

I am 83 and while I have few limitations on my clothing style, the rules she stated are for any age. I too am overweight and apple shaped. Lol. Based on my aging arms, I choose 3/4 sleeves. I am short so wear blouses that are not too long since it further shortens me. Proportions are important. I dress every day since I go to a public dining room. Wear makeup, earrings and style my hair. Find it gives me a good attitude and makes me more approachable. 😊

I frequently wear skirts, and usually full, knee-length circle/swing skirts. I always, *always* tuck my top, as my skirts actually sit at my natural waist. That, paired with a really floofy petticoat, really accentuates my waist and makes it look smaller. Plus I love the look. In general I try to create some contrast in my clothes, too. If I'm wearing a black skirt, I'll try to go with another colour of top, or at least something like a bright belt to break up the "ninja" look. But if I'm wearing a bright skirt, I prefer a black (or simple white) top, so it's not too busy. I love to look my best ❤

Thanks for all these examples. With longest length I wear either ankle booties, or full length black/brown boots. With the shortest hems I use matching tights and same color or tone non-shiny shoe. I agree with your grey sweater outfit: team-Tucked-In. I use a tube shapewear 'slip' for all my tuck ins. It keeps them from bunching over my already chubby tummy. All your choices are lovely and beautiful on you. Thanks for sharing. God bless you and your channel. GG From Minnesota.

I love to look my best. I don't know where to start. I have so much to say that maybe I should do it in sections. I am not Jewish, but with all that is going on in the world, I started listening to your videos because your voice was so calming. You went about your day peacefully and wholly, explaining what you did and why. You seemed to be totally involved with your life and I found that very helpful. I read a few things on the news and they upset me, So I decided to listen to one of your videos. It was the How to Not Look Frumpy one. The more I watched the more I liked your outfits and understood how your tips could work for me. I've never felt that I looked stylish or professional . I have some outfits similar to the ones you "fixed" and want to try to many of them. Professional clothes, feminine clothes and cute clothes. You had them all. I had always thought that I should not wear a belt, being larger in that area, now I can't wait to try some. I will watch this video again and others when I just need to listen to you. Thank you.

Hi, Hi, Thank you for this video. I know that I'm a bit late to this particular party but even so... I'm living without any style since way too many years, and I'm a bit fed up with the situation, so this one dropped into my feed at a very good time for me. It gave me a few ideas that I very much need at this point of my life. I'm mostly bed dependent almost 24/7/365 after a severe whiplash injury 29 years ago, (to any well meaning reader, thank you but I have already tried all the different treatments, and they are neither efficient nor effective, and some have even made my condition worse, for years.) and have lived in day pajamas and night pajamas since then. I find myself without anything to wear, quite literally. I have three decent t-shirts and one pair of disintegrating pair of jeans, outside of those day pajamas, and I won't leave the house in those unless it's because I need to be picked up by an ambulance. Yes, I forgot to say that I've also acquired a not so pleasant immunological and lung condition, where said ambulances are always an option, though nothing has tried to kill me for over than a year now. Then again I haven't had a proper pneumonia since early spring /summer either. I can't help but notice that using a slip under the skirts help with the silhouette. It's not that this is a new revelation for me, but for the next generation of skirt wearers I feel it needs saying every so often. If the pleated skirt is actually in natural silk (and perhaps also rayon, viscose, TENCEL Lyocell, or whatever other name is used for the same type of fabric, (I don't have the actual expertise in materials to know, and I haven't tried it myself) you may be out of luck. The pleating process in the skirts you showed doesn't work very well in natural fibers. If the fibers are from nature (or the next best in the case of viscose and the like) you might have to send them to a pleating shop to have them re-pleated. Natural fibers don't take well to pleating and will want to go back to its natural shape, e.g. flat. If they are in any kind of plastic, i.e polyester polyamide, or nylon, then maybe you can press the pleats back in carefully. You might have to go with very low heat, or with a pressing cloth. You might very, very lightly dose some starching spray before pressing. Hopefully the pleats will stay neatly in due to the pressing and the starch. To get the pleats straight I would probably pin or baste the pleats in, all the way or most of the way down, and then across for stability when pressing. I'm sure there are thousands of videos on KZbin on the way to go about the process. If the material is a natural fiber, I might have tried the pressing anyway, even with the starch if necessary, before discarding the skirt, or have it re-pleated. That re-pleating would just have to be done continuously over the lifetime of the garment, and that would be a bit of a faff that I wouldn't want to do. You might lose a bit swosh-ability form the starch, but if it means a neater wearable skirt it would have been worth it for me. Unfortunately only you will be able to say if it's worth it to you. I hope you do because you mentioned that you liked the ensemble. Yours, Ann

What great tips! So chic!! Thanks for explaining the 1/3s rule with the visual lines--I had trouble with the concept when you explained, but the lines made it make sense.
