I wear a black beret, black gloves, black suede ankle boots with delicate detail from Talbots, and black leggings under my skirt to stay warm. I live in the snow belt below Lake Michigan but get too hot wearing my wool coat in my SUV or in stores. A solid long sleeve tee shirt and a vest keep me quite warm. Try adding a silk scarf tied around your neck and see how warm that keeps you! I shoveled snow in -4 temps last week and my silk scarf kept me so warm I was actually too warm. Silk base layers work wonders and add zero bulk. Thanks for sharing your ideas! Julie 🌷

I’ve worn skirts only for about 10 years. I’m now just getting into dresses because they solve a couple of problems and i love the idea of simplicity when getting dressed. I live in Michigan and have layered my skirts with leggings and sweaters and sometimes a knit skirt i use as a slip and have kept very warm. I tend to get cold easily too. My style of dresses is more loose bohemian style and maxi length. I was thinking it would be easy with this style to layer cuddl duds underneath and a cardigan over that for really cold days. Our house is old and very drafty, especially upstairs. I love how dresses make me feel though so it’s worth the effort.

Nikki, this is absolutely my favorite subject for you! You are such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to feminine dressing. You've studied it, you understand a woman's body, and you have exquisite taste. As far as I'm concerned, you could do nothing but this and never run out of subject matter. I actually have your double-breasted swing raincoat in navy and in black and always feel like I'm wearing a "Nikki coat"! I would love for her to analyze how to do this for the more extreme winter or if there is serious snow. What fabrics, cuts and layering work best for those issues? Strategies for a wet cold winter versus one that is windy with blowing snow and so on..... It takes so much analysis and thought usually women just give up in these scenarios. But, considering modern fabrics and tech it most likely is feasible.

Merino wool base layers are great for extreme weather. They get pricey but definitely worth it as they last long (if washed and treated Correctly)

I think people who live in cold climates like myself couldn't wear these coats and boots and be warm enough. During the coldest time of year we need parkas and actual snow boots..

@krissykimono Жыл бұрын
I think it’s possible, with some exceptions. You just have to be choosy in layering. For instance, flannel lined stockings, thermal undergarments, longer coats opposed to shorter coats, etc. These are things I do, personally when the weather is super unkind. If those don’t work, you can always opt for everything in the prettiest colors and try dressing it up with some embellishments. 😉

@krissykimono it was so cold this winter, my hand froze to the doorknob instantly and our garbage can was frozen shut for a week lol halfway through shoveling a foot of snow off my vehicle I had to go back inside and put on another pair of gloves because my hands were going numb with just the one pair.. at that point I could care less if I look frumpy.

Oh, so chic! That coat is incredible. Are those wrap dresses? I'm looking for some nursing-friendly winter dresses. Usually, I do a skirt, or jeans, and a top. Love the silhouette of a dress and I feel more comfortable in one. Winter is my favorite, with all the layering. So many options to add a feminine touch. While you are searching for the perfect pair of boots, look for some fancy boot socks. I live in my "cowgirl" boots and love the boot socks that peek over the top. They look knitted and have lovely lace-edging, while others have pretty buttons.

Couple of comments I have, for ladies asking about colder climates, I am in UK which is pretty cold, very, very rainy too, some options could be; look for youtubers from colder climates - jonnajinton is stunning and lives in freezing climate. Also I tend to look at scandinavian winter fashion which I think is beautiful and practical, but I hear you, I work outside gardening and worry about the mud ruining my outfits, it's a conundrum indeed, any ideas gladly received, I want to keep on wearing beautiful dresses but they have to cope with mud, rain, snow and wind.

Nikki, I loved this video!❤ The sweater dresses are gorgeous! I live in Michigan and deal with very cold temperatures. I have tried to make my winter wardrobe more feminine with color. I have a cozy parka in a beautiful pink. I also bought a dress coat in a light blue and have received so many compliments on it. I know many people in cold climates wear snow boots to get to work and then change at work into nicer shoes. (As long as you don’t forget your nice shoes😊that works.) One problem I’ve had with tights and dresses in the winter is the tights sticking to the dress because of friction or static. I’m thinking maybe wearing a slip might help? Static in cold climates is a huge issue with dresses. I will continue to try though because I love dresses! The words at the end were so encouraging and so true! Happy New Year!

Thank you so much, Jennifer! Color is a lovely way to make your winter wardrobe more feminine. Your coats sound so beautiful! I didn't show it but yes, slips are a must under all dresses, especially the sweater dresses. A fabric refresher spray is great for those moments of sheer cling!

Thank you Nikki, i am 62 now and feel in shape, but i always cared about my health and weight ( not to be overweight, ) then you will forget the bulky clothes, which are not nice ( for me ), i don't know in the us, but in France, many young girls or women wear bulky clothes not only because it s trendy but also because it s the way to hide their forms, sometimes it s a pity as they are beautiful with their forms ( in a normal way i would say, not overweight ), and they hide ,and others they just want to look like men, just to confirm their personnalities as strong persons , the world has changed, i remember when i was 20 , even if we have forms and we did, we did not care so much to be the skinny one, we were much more feminine , i really appreciate this video Thank you Nikki

My only real issue with clothing is if you dress for the cold weather outside then go inside a store or other public area you get miserably overheated. And it's not always easy or appropriate to take off layers. Then in hot weather if you dress for it and go shopping & such then you freeze to death under the AC. So yeah, it's hard to balance all that.

Your dresses are very pretty, but what about cold weather fashion for those of us who don't wear dresses? My days are spent cleaning, cooking, working outdoors, working with animals, running errands, exercising, going to yoga classes, etc. I live in jeans and yoga pants! I also live in a very cold and snowy climate. Dresses in the winter would be super impractical for those reasons, too!
@TheLadyoftheHouse Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’m sure there are plenty of options for such lifestyles and those who don’t prefer dresses. That’s all I share on my channel though to make sure to share what works for my lifestyle and to keep what I share authentic. I love swimming and make sure to wear a suit when I do that sort of exercise but definitely won’t live in it. Each climate has different requirements too, try seeking someone who could be of more help with something similar to your climate. A climate like yours and what you may wear would be rather impractical for me and my mild winters. I hope this helps🌹

I would like to see a video about how to dress feminine when a woman doesn’t have a waist and can’t wear form fitting, knitwear due to a large, lumpy, rolling belly. To give examples you would need to use a friend or Pinterest. The majority of women in North America are ‘overweight’ and many women lose their waist when weight is gained. Let alone how many women are postpartum. Your style is lovely but when it is so specific to a body type ( a very tiny waist) that is so unrelateable for me. It is difficult for me to find anything helpful. I’m not trying to be mean, just sharing my experience.
@TheLadyoftheHouse Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your request however this isn't my expertise. My biggest suggestion if looking for someone you could relate to with style and what to wear for your size is find someone who's size looks similar to yours who's style you admire. My basic message is to inspire others to make the everyday beautiful, which will look different for everybody and I share how I do that based off of my own experiences and strengths. That's how I have found I can present things most authentically.
