A teacher once said you cannot love a thing because it cannot love your back; some people cannot love you back either.

I came here from the Bible app by life church and the 9 day devotional on guilt and shame using Dr. Baker's videos was just so powerful. I plan to buy the book. One of the best quotes, I believe words from his book, which shocked my very entitled rational mindset says "The rational brain cannot heal shame because shame is not a cognitive distortion; it is an emotion that can get organized by unconscious beliefs that are outside of our rational control. To overcome shame you cannot just do something different; you must be something different. You must experience the renewing of your mind with grace." Thank you and may God bless you.

Dr. Mark Baker, I bought your book - my last intimate relationship was very lovely but also terribly painful ending in being broken up with, nearly took me out - that said, I think I need to deal with my own shame (envy, resentment, anxiety) and overall feel better about myself and more courageous and good vs crushing depressions basically once bad one every 1 to 1 1/2 / 2 years. I’m also in the mindframe of doing and not just consuming information - my last relationship optimistically taught me a lot I need to work on in my own life which is good, just sad and angry from time to time that the relationships I love and want to hold longest have fallen apart. Hopefully some answers can be enlightened and lift my heart and mind that’s heavy at times along with continuing to do things like treating myself like I matter, have a growth mindset, defend myself and other with apporpirate anger and courage to face fears and bullshit from people pushing serious boundaries and like the serenity prayer says “the wisdom to know the difference” (in verbal confrontations, work, family, relationships and even in my own mind CBT stuff)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I love your growth mindset, and your desire to learn from relationships that did not work out. I believe some of the greatest wisdom in life comes out of our failures rather than our successes.. Thank you for buying my book, I hope you find it helpful.

Jung has brilliant insights, but I find him hard to apply in therapy. He’s more philosophical.
