Lovely job there. Big fan of Coverstain after being recommended it on the forum, now I use it all the time mostly for spot priming tricky areas and repairs. Not tried the permawhite, will look into it in future, Zinsser products have not let me down yet.

+caskwith I must admit that I often read the painting and decorating forum and that is where I first heard about Zinsser products. In this flat I used Zinsser- DIF, Gardz, Cover stain, Bullseye 123, Perma-white and Perma white tinted to a magnolia colour. The Perma- white that I had was about 4 years old as I bought about 10L of the stuff from a seller on ebay and it came in 1L tins, it had been kept in my office, so a quick mix with the paddle in the drill and it was like brand new paint! Thanks for the comment ;-)

Painting ceilings is the job I hate the most as it is very difficult to get an even finish. I have a lot of decorating to do soon, my ensuite, master bedroom and two sets of staircases and landings. Any tips to get a good finish quickly on the walls and ceilings? Have you used any of those powered rollers like the one Bosch produce? Better still, can you pop round and do it all for me, I'll let you film it for your channel.😉
@ultimatehandyman8 жыл бұрын
+ibaisaic Ha Ha, thanks for the offer. I have never used any of the powered roller systems as I find it's better to just use good quality rollers and extension poles- kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIrMkHqOZqeLfbc kzbin.info/www/bejne/e364YWuvnaaUq9k

Just wanted you to know that the techniques you demonstrated in your video are very useful, but the most important and pleasant feature of your video is your voice and articulation. Other presenters are very good painters but mumble as they demonstrate or the acoustics create a problem for the listener. My observation.

As Darwen is in your neck of the woods, surely you should be using Crown coatings and paints!
@ultimatehandyman8 жыл бұрын
+Benzknees I did get in touch with them a while back. It took them several weeks to get back in touch with me, I then told them I was doing a full flat refurb and asked if they would like to supply the paint for free, again it took them days to get back to me, by which point I had bought the paint. waterbased onto oil based? I thought you could only do the opposite (oil onto water). What you saying?
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+eitan100 Zinsser cover stain is oil based, Zinsser perma white interior is water based. You can use cover stain, then use perma white interior on top, I just checked the Zinsser pocket guide. I'm not sure about other paints though!
@caskwith9 жыл бұрын
+eitan100 Not onto oil based top coats, but Coverstain is an oil based primer that provides a lovely surface to add either oil or water based top coats.
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+caskwith Absolutely, I have to say that the cover stain is brilliant, although I was mighty impressed with Zinsser Gardz as well. Thanks for the comment ;-)

I've just wallpapered could I caulk in the top and bottom edges? even though it's wallpaper
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+Graham Cummings You could, but it can be hard depending on the type of paper and pattern. With most wallpaper you can do though as long as you are careful and don't get the caulk everywhere ;-) Thanks for the comment
@gcumins20129 жыл бұрын
+Ultimate Handyman haha that's the only thing putting me off doing it as I don't want caulk everywhere lol
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+Graham Cummings If you have some of the paper left over, just try some caulk on it and try wiping it off with a damp sponge. If it comes off the paper easily it should be easy to caulk ;-)
@gcumins20129 жыл бұрын
I will try that and hopefully it comes off easily. Thanks mate

Good tutorial man! I have a question, my bathroom needs painting ASAP, but it has some mould and is bubbling/peeling a lot just above the shower section. Any help or advice? Do I need to go through and peel the paint completely? The bathroom is approximately 4x4m (relatively large) and i want to do it right. Painting is no issue its the peeling which I'm not to sure about? Thanks Nik
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+Nik Trp What is the ventilation like in the room? Is there an extractor fan above the shower? The peeling might be caused to the wrong paint being used. You could scrape off any loose paint, treat the mould using a mould killer- kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4fLZWaKoZqljac Then prime the whole ceiling using Zinsser 123+ or Zinsser coverstain, then a couple of coats of Zinsser perma-white tinted to what ever colour you like, or a suitable kitchen and bathroom paint. Ventilation is the key though ;-)
@fpvgtking9 жыл бұрын
+Ultimate Handyman yes there is ventilation in the bathroom, like you said it is key! I watched your video on the mould killer when you realised it and that's one thing that will be done! Issue is that the room is 4mX4m and the section pealing is only about 1mx1m area, so do I try peeling the whole roof? Or just the peeling section? I know that this will then be seen when it's painted?
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+Nik Trp I'd definitely remove any paint that is loose. As for seeing it afterwards you might be able to feather the edges of the sound paint using some abrasive paper. I used to do this when repairing rust patches on my car, if you sand around the sound paint on the edges, then prime the area with no paint on up to the sound paint you might not be able to see the new area, especially if you prime the whole ceiling after priming the bit with no paint on.
