Hugo I loved your video. Im David and own a small painting company in Kansas and I have done this technique for a few years now and it does work. People need to realize that you only do this alone if you have small length of walls and work quickly. Say you have a small bedroom like a 10 x 10 or 11 x 11. It works great alone. Anything bigger you should have 2 people. First cut in all of your walls like you did here and make sure to feather out the cut ins. I feather out my cut ins out to 6 inches or so. Once the cut ins are dry I Tape off the baseboards first to avoid paint splatter. I then quickly apply the paint as you do here. Then I come back and go from left to right with the closed end of the roller cage always facing towards the direction I'm painting. This assures no lap marks. Once I reach the end I go back and roll it out once more from left to right. Works great and is fast. Now people if the wall is a lot longer you should have two people. One person is applying the paint as Hugo shows here as the other person is doing the final up and down layout and roll off of the paint with even up and down motion from top to bottom. Always closed end of roller gage going with the left to right motion. It does work a lot faster and if done right it will leave a smooth surface free of roller marks ect. Thanks Hugo! Remember people there is a lot more prep work then just buying paint and a cheap brush and roller so hire a professional painter....

Thank you for the information, in some occasions having the screen into a 5 gallon bucket is even better than the pans. I think a systematic way of working in any area of construction makes the work practical. When I build concrete columns with reinforce steel the way I set the simple tools is crucial to work fast as well. I just hope that what I have been learning for many years can help with the frustration of others. Thank you for helping me.

Thank you for this video. FYI to address those who are claiming that this is not a professional way to paint, because "they" are professionals and "they" do not use "this" way: I have watched many professional painters (and electricians, tile contractors, plumbers, flooring etc) work. Same trade, same job professionals many have very different techniques. Rarely is their one right way. A true professional in any trade or profession can get a good outcome many ways. For painters, some professionals prefer to work out of a tray; some out of a bucket. Choosing a tray over a bucked does not relegate one to 'non-professional' status. It is simply a preference. Further, I've rarely seen a professional painter lay paint on nor off much differently than on this video. When I do, I simply have to recall the professional to do touchups because there are drips and holidays that need to be fixed. Too much haste does make waste. Professional accountants, lawyers, doctors and indian chiefs, and tile, floor, painting, upholstery electricians etc, may have more than one way to do the same darn thing. In my experience, a true professional develops his/her techniques (which may be different than those of others) to get the same result: properly wired house, sutured wound, straight tile etc, and efficiently, beautifully painted wall. This method demonstrated is perfectly professional, will yield professional results and can be done quickly while not compromising results with drips, holidays and other flaws that will detract from the finished product. Further, such professionals can work with a wide variety of tools (and quality) and still get great results. Carping to the contrary is just that. Carping.

Hey man just wanted to tell you, I've been painting for years but I never really had a method like you do, I just sort of did things as I felt like doing them, lol. Anyways, I tried doing it your way today in two bedrooms, I taped off the trim and cut in the entire room then rolled the walls like you did and holy crap was that way faster. So just wanted to say thanks, you saved me a ton of time today and probably a lot more in the future.

as a professional painter i wonder.. You can roll a room in 10 min no problem. Even less. What about the trim ceilings and cuts. Even if all you have to do is the walls you wont cover the floor and cut in the walls the the trim and ceiling in 10 min. Also take 2 coats to get proper film thickness.
@davidroberson89516 жыл бұрын
Right. The rolling is the easy part and even novices should only spend 15-20 minutes rolling it. I've seen single coats look OK depending on the paint and how close the two colors are but I would never just do one coat unless I was just freshening up a room with the same color that was already there at home.

He’s trying to teach y’all old know it all’s a new trick. Evidently neither of you are as good a painter as you think you are with your years of experience, because you wouldn’t be on here trying to learn this new trick. As for the comment below, did you not see and hear him explain how to cover the wall with a perfectly even coat of paint. Maybe the two of you can get together and do your own painting tutorial so that you can show us what we already know, which is the long way of painting two coats.

Just for people who do not know any better. When you buy paint professionally. There are performance warranties on good paint. If you paint in a thickness of greater then the wet mills prescribed by the supplier the warranty is void. If you want to know how to paint read the directions on the manufacturers website. You start from one side to the other always keeping a wet edge feathering from one side to the other.

Exactly. I think this is the best technique. The most efficient and time saving. I once made the mistake of saving 20% on a gallon of paint by going with a lesser brand and oh boy was that a mistake. Hugo, Hugo, Hugo...Get rid of that pan and use a 5gal bucket and screen. Also, use an adjustable pole. My bucket has a 9", 3" and small tube roller (with 2' handle) hanging out of it. My brush is stuffed in my back pocket (handle down, of course). I use the 9" to cut a wall at the ceiling, use the wet with a wet brush to quickly cut (may need a second coat) on a short ladder as I go around the room. I use the 3" for bottom trim and around plugs. I get within a 1/4" with a roller, eye on the edge. I do 2-3 jobs a day, about 3 hrs per, 3bdrm, 2 bath. Just so ya know (30 years and still kickin booty..

Ok. Most rental properties use a common paint. At one point I had 11 large (300+per) complexes @ 10% occupancy. That equals 30 units per complex per month. That's 300 units per month, that's 10 per day. Because they are (most of them) repaints: 1. Feather up. Most units are non-smoking so generally walls can be good above traffic areas. Run a roller approx 1" above base,dry cut with a 3" brush. Don't us full rollers of paint unless on open walls, when cutting in with a roller make sure you drain off on your paint screen (keep roller frame away from bucket sides to reduce drip). 2. Your eye is always on your paint edge, roller, brush, etc., roll your wall edge, use a brush to push wet edge to wall junction. 3. If unit is lightly used, then roll a standard coat at traffic areas but then pull off into upper field, use backside of a brush to quickly smear into existing non-painted areas. When contracting with large property management firms, you have a per price unit irregardless of condition (the good with the bad). My record is 13 units in a day. 1 complex, averaged 1 hr per, you do the math, lol. I also used a sprayer, and feathered most of the baths/kitchens.

Whoops......one more thing. People out there in painting wonderland from Dave the pro painter from Kansas........... and I,m sure Hugo would agree......pleaseeeeeeee start using flat paints on your walls!!!!........The only walls I would use an eggshell or satin is in my kitchen and bathrooms. Never use semi glosses or full glosses on your walls!!!! If you use eggshells and satin sheens you will see every defect in your walls and will leave uneven streaks ect in your walls. Flat paints are beautiful and make your walls look buttery smooth and hide defects. Also the touchups are easier and you wont get "flashing" when you try to spot paint a repair or dirt mark. Also never clean your walls with a sponge or cloth in a hard circular motion or you will cause a flash to your walls whether you use a flat, eggshell, satin , semi gloss ect......always clean your walls with a hot dampened sponge and set it lightly over the dirt mark and tap it clean with soft taps and never rub it......flat paints are the way to go if you want a perfect looking paint job especialy on a long wall where natural light comes in......

I agree with goatsears, that's not the right way to paint a wall, when you follow this technique even if you are using flat paint this can cause you to get roller marks on the walls, and those are hard to get off ones they dry, also get a 5 gallon bucket and a grid, even if it's Two gallons of paint, paint two feet at a time keep a wet edge, with flat paint you can stop on the middle of a wall and come back to it, just make sure you fade out the paint where you end up, don't leave it heavy, this technique is a handy man technique, good try though.
@HugoCorrea10 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the information. There are many ways of applying paint over walls and provably my practicality doing this type of work can not be use by many; the thickness of the paint, the roller size, the pressure applied, the amount of paint on the surface, etc are all factors to consider; of course you do not want to leave roller marks on the walls, or have the paint dripping down the walls afterwards, those are intrinsic situations when doing it wrong. If by using this technique someone may get too much paint on the wall, he or she just need to clean the roller on the tray or by moving the excess paint to the next wall; the goal is to be able to apply enough paint to leave a solid coat without fading areas that is what normally happens when you apply the paint by sections. No all the paint behaves the same way, you must adjust to the brand that fits you best. Thank you again, all this comments make the world of difference to many. for more educational videos I created www.doiteasynetwork.com you may find interesting topics there.

That is why the tittle says "how to paint" no "how to prep to paint" but a got your point and it takes some planing before you do this projects.

Señor Hugo muchas gracias y que Diós lo bendiga. Now I hope to fly through my walls. Veo que su paint tray esta lleno de suficiente pintura almost touching the groves on the tray where you uniformly coat the paint roller. I would place just enough paint on my paint tray pero nunca como lo vi en su video. I would go back and forth with the wall and the paint tray. One vertical line on the wall at a time. Lo que hizo usted en el video todavía no lo puedo creer. Que rápido y effortless. Bendiciones para usted y su familia.

Nice video, Thankyou. It looked so easy I thought, 'I should get my roller out and paint a room!' I'm an amateur painter and decorator and don't really have a process but watching your video made me think I should do. Thankyou for the information

This is a great video! Thank you. I have only painted one other time when I was a young teenager & it was a disaster. So now I'm going to tackle my kids room & this video helped me believe I can do this & not have a wreck. Thank you again! All the best to you.

Great tips. I have painted a lot of walls, but never like this. I always do the 4'x4' method, and it always needs a second coat, because the paint is never evenly dispersed. Great tips from a pro, and I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I don't look forward to having to paint again, but when I do, this is how I'll do it.

Skipping the words, straight to the action @2:40. Very good example, I'll use this method on my new house! Thanks so much.

I am glad I can help, if you feel like is too much work, put some good music, your best beverage and comfortable clothes to work, have some old t-shirts cut for rags and have them humid to clean as you go. Have fun and if I was able to do it you too :-)

I wish I would have watched this video a couple of weeks ago before I painted the whole main floor of my house. I could have saved myself a lot of grief. I do still have a lot of painting to do up the stairs and on the second floor so I will be using your technique for sure.

Well me and a friend finished painting a two story home with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, Kitchen, Dining Room office and living room, etc in 4 days using your really great tips. Thanks again and I've become an expert edger... no blue tape for me. By the way we did get an adjustable ladder and then a piece of floorboard which we then put an extension ladder on top to paint the area above the stairs. Two man job with one guy steadying the extension ladder.
