I just finished all 3 videos, and this turned out amazing. I really love how you filled in the larger shapes by free hand drawing some additional shapes. I like how you said that no 2 Mandalas will be the same even by using the same stencil. Its on your interpretation of how you see it. That really makes me feel better as a new dotter.

My friend is a psychologist and she told me that what you are describing is “flow state”, positive psychology. “Getting in the zone”. I lose track of time doing mandalas too. It is very therapeutic! Love your design. Thank you.

I just love all forms of art, but I do a lot of fabric arts. And I do use it as a way to destress. When I am stressed, I will usually grab my crochet or knitting and a quiet place to calm down.

I used to knit and crochet, too. It's so relaxing, I agree.

Hey Rachel 😁 I often say that my mind hasn't been this stress-free or as calm and relaxed as since I started dotting 3 or so months ago. Therapeutic is s word I'd use, absolutely. The second I grab my canvas or my stones, I don't really think about anything other than colors and patterns. 100% chill 😁😁😁

Parts 1, 2 & 3 now watched & enjoyed, thank you! Watching you paint while I'm mixing & messing around with paints is so relaxing. Extreme Sheens are my current favourites for metallics, super opaque & easy to use neat. Time flies while dotting & I often forget to eat ... "Just 5 more minutes" easily turns into 2 or 3 more hours! I think particularly with dotting because once your paint is perfectly mixed you want to keep at it until it's used up ... rather than do the 3 mile (ok, 10 pace) trek to the kitchen for the clingfilm to cover it!
@TheDottingCenter3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I could paint allll daaay long, too. It’s that “flow state” that makes us lose time like that. It’s so relaxing. We’re lucky to have a craft during these times.

I personally feel that out of all the art forms I've done thru the years (ie: knit, crochet, needle tatting, seed beads, pen and ink free form/ geometric, Celtic knots/ weaving, zen doodles/ tangles, optic illusions, pottery, glass beads, and about a thousand other things that I can't remember...) This is my favorite! There is literally no stress and you can always wipe and paint over those not so dots cause I'm a bit OCD. It gives me a feeling if impressionistic art, without the worries. Waiting for a tool and paint upgrade currently. I have the acrylic rod set and find them hard to work with the different sizes, looking to get the DIY Mandala set where the tips are different but the handles are uniform size. Been working with the CraftSmart paints and I find their pigmentation a little wonky, looking forward to some Deco Arts and Martha Stewart sets seen great results and reviews from you and many other dotting artists the pigment consistency looks a lot better. I like the tip from pt 1 with using the deco art chalky medium to customize the background that's also going on the list! Thanks for reading all the babble, I truly love your personality and videos. If I'm not personally dotting, I'm watching videos about it untill I'm asleep. 💕

I love your comment! All the skills you learned from all the art forms you've done in the past will help in your dotting 😊 I'm excited for you to try dotting and see how you like it!💞
@ginnyhudson27093 жыл бұрын
I, too, had problem with consistency of Craft Smart paints. One bottle would be very running, then the next would be uniform. I also am switching over to Deco Art. Had trouble with "walking dots" - i think because CraftSmart paints were not thick enough. Glad hear someone else confirm this.

I was looking for a new art technique when I clicked on one of your videos. I haven't even started yet but I know I'm hooked! I just had a couple of things I wanted say. With regard to paint colors I started to buy white in a larger size because I use more of that than any other color. My other tip is that I buy a pearl blending medium instead of buying a "pearled" color, because it gives better control over the way a paint will look later. I am a perfectionist also (drives my husband crazy) so, I started using him for an untrained eye. If I make a mistake on a project like cross stitch or painting I ask him if he can find it when I give him a general idea of the location of the mistake. If he shows me the mistake, I fix it. If he doesn't see it I leave it alone. Love the videos and can't wait to get started.
@TheDottingCenter3 жыл бұрын
These are such valuable tips! Thanks for sharing 😊 I would use my husband for the untrained eye, but he’s more of a perfectionist than me so he’d find things that I didn’t know were wrong 😆 The tips about buying lots of white and using pearl medium is so helpful! Thank you ❤️

That was great! Wonderful job. Yes, I totally agree about the therapeutic-ness(?) of dotting and painting. I suffered for a few years with anxiety and depression and this has changed my life so much for the better. I find when you are so focused and concentrated, negative thoughts do not enter the mind, and that dumb mental film loop stops repeating itself. I’m so grateful really! Hey, I love the Golden paints too, especially the metallics, but I really like Martha Stewart paints. They’re a little thicker and you might have to fiddle around to get your preferred consistency, but her colors are just awesome. Love DecoArt too.

It's a flexible, pointy tool that allows you to make many dots all the same size. Unlike ball stylus tools that make dots in descending size.

In this Vid, you talk about dotting being therapeutic. I'm actually wanting it to, but it 'adds anxiety instead. Problem is, I'm rather OCD, when it come to symmetry. So not placing the dots Exactly in place, and being a slight different size, is not an easy thing to let happen. However, I am working on it. So to start, it's high anxiety. As I get better, I also am able to accept the little flaws a bit better also. So, given time, hopefully it will be calming, as a Mandala is supposed to be...
@TheDottingCenter5 жыл бұрын
Larry Kohlruss Thanks for sharing this Larry. I've seen that side of it too. Trust me. You may want to try a pattern. This removes the anxiety about symmetry and where to place the dots. That way you only have to focus on paint color and filling in the dots. This is what I do when I'm too anxious to be creative. Hope that helps! I gets easier with practice. Part of my art therapy is working on removing my OCD perfectionist tendencies. Anyway, my heart goes out to you. Don't give up on it!
