I tell you what! You're right about it not being as easy as it looks. It really does take some practice. I've been trying some of your tutorials and some have turned out really bad! haha But I just tried again and got a little better. I enjoy your style very much. Very pretty and even elegant at times.

I love the way you approach the process--do a sketch and more precise painting first to understand the shapes and relationships of the subject; THEN do the loose version once you have good understanding. I think this is an important concept to think about as we try to get 'looser' with our painting. Gorgeous!

Sometimes it’s hard to slow down. So many videos are not real time and it gives me a feeling that I need to paint fast. I’m not complaining because I appreciate all of the art tutorials and demos that I watch. But definitely slowing down helps.

Hi Kristy. I just got your book How to Make Art for Joy's Sake, Free Spirited Watercolor and it's absolutely beautiful. I was already impressed with the way you explain what your teaching in your videos but I'm equally impressed with the way you explain everything (so far) in your book. I read up to page 26 then skimmed the rest of the book. It's so well thought out and easy to understand that it was hard to put down. The whole book is beautiful! Even the spiral binder was perfectly done. No pages got hung up. One problem though...I can't decide weather I should keep it on my coffee table or in my art room or on my nightstand. I really appreciate you for creating a book filled with so much inspiration. I can't wait to fill some pans and get started. Oh, I have a question. I went to your web site and tried using the amazon link for your brushes but I just got directed to Amazon and other brushes. How can I get my hands on your brushes? If you aren't selling them right now can you please suggest a good dagger brush to me. Thank you Kristy. 🥰

I definitely prefer the 2nd one. The looser version appeals to me more, though both are pretty and well done. :) Also, I looked up the watercolor marker in case anyone is interested since it wasn't in the supply list. It is a Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush pen/marker, and it is actually dye/ink-based instead of pigment based like watercolor markers, so may be more likely to fade. Lightfastness of art products is always something to keep in mind esp if you plan to keep the finished work out. If it is for a sketchbook or prints, not such a big issue.

@@KristyRice I use round brushes by Prime Art, mostly. I managed to find a dagger brush by Daler Rowney which I’m still getting used to. Not gonna lie... I tried to grow Hellebore last year and it died on me. I am sticking to just painting them because it seems fickle about their water and light needs. I think I like the inky version, but I also lean into drawing things and then painting over instead of going straight to paint.

The trick for me was buying plants that were at least 4 years old. Full sun. I also have struggled with getting any of the fancy varieties to live. The basics seem much hardier :)
