Have you ever considered releasing a “companion video” of the uncut raw footage? Sometimes, like with this one, I feel it would be really helpful for us to study. For example, when you put down two or three layers of the same color of lines to create texture, it would be nice to see that progression instead of having it summarized.
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
It's tough, there really isn't a bunch of other footage, I mostly record what you see here and trim down the best shots, so the rest is a lot of unfocused or out of frame stuff, so not much to get from it. :)

Another amazing video from the Technomancer!! Thank you Vince. I have been eager to see this one for sure. It astounds me as I work on projects or begin my thought process on a project, that you somehow release a video directly associated with what I’m working on and assist me without even knowing it! My greatest respect and admiration to you sir. Thank you and keep up the great work.

Funny coincidence I had this playing in the background while I was painting a usagi yojimbo model. If you aren't familiar, usagi yojimbo was a series of graphic novels about a samurai rabbit. So I went ahead and applied what you suggested to his fur although he is completely white in the comics. It looks pretty good I think it gives more depth to a three-dimensional version of an originally two-dimensional character design
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
Sounds great! I bet it looks fantastic! I am very familiar with the comic, the character rules.

This is a good tutorial. In essence, it's like painting fur on a 2D surface (i.e. regular painting, 'freehand'). While completely the best way to go, I think the problem with this technique is (obviously) across a full army, such as beastmen. Unless, you know, a person is just very meditative and doesn't mind it taking a long time (arguably, if you are an edge highlighter of a 'neat' color scheme, a person could be spending this kind of time, anyway). Nevertheless, for a focus model, I think this is the way to go and a very excellent breakdown of instruction.

Hello Vince! Thank you for the explanations and demo. I can't help but remember the previous HC videos about painting hair and how you used (way back then) to paint very much darker lines and lighter lines "sort of side by side" to make the texture more strongly defined. Is this something you don't do anymore? Or just "yet another posible approach" in our hobby of many paths? Happy painting!
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
This is a more refined approach, if I was working fast for armies, I woudl use more contrast and then glaze.

Great video, helping with my Slaves to Darkness Darkoath. Any suggestions for black demon skin? Was thinking dark blue/purple base, some blue highlights, then black/blue ink filter over top. Thanks as always!
@VinceVenturella12 күн бұрын
When we are talking about true black skin (i.e. obsidian), it's very challenging, because we are just in such a low value. Your best bet is something like what I did with the drow (you can find that tutorial in the playlist), and push it into the dark black/purple up to high grey-purples.

Hi Vince, Great video, as always. I've recently been 3d printing some vehicles, and am struggling to get a decent glass effect on the opaque windows and canopies. I don't suppose you have a tutorial planned for something along those lines? I'd love to see how you would go about it.
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
I don't have anything immediately planned, but assuming the piece is opaque and not clear resin, then you're talking about something like a gem, where it's starting dark in the top toward the light and growing brighter toward the bottom with a light catch in the shadow area.
@maximumbob350Ай бұрын

Hey Vince! Really liked this tutorial, came in right as I was painting some brown fur cloaks, so good timing! One question though, something I struggle with as much as realistic white fur is realistic black fur and I was wondering how you would tackle that without making it look grey or blue etc?
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
I would push into the grey, but only on about 50% or less of the surface. in general, as long as 50% of the surface remains black, the surface will read as black.

Great video! I've been doing some fur on some spider minis for DnD and my process was similar! I always learn something from your videos! I always have a bunch of questions which are typically answered in your videos and I always come to your channel first. As you asked at the end I do have a question regarding thinning through the airbrush, I have the Ultra 2024 which I believe is a 0.4 needle size, I'm unsure on the impact this has on workflow for things like this but am I right in thinking the thinner I make a mixture the less PSI I need for the air itself? I tend to hover around 25 Psi for most things I do but at the moment I mostly just prime my minis with the airbrush though I am wanting to expand on this and try more either with base coating on filters like these. I'd love to hear your process on thinning for these types of things and if you have say a process you go through on setting up your PSI for your airbrush dependant on how "thin/watery" the final consistency is? I appreciate that's quite a open question that I'm unsure if there's a solid answer to. Lastly for wanting to try these airbrush techniques more than just priming should I be looking for a different airbrush or is the Ultra 2024 suitable for this do you think? Thanks Vince, I can't wait to see what you have lined up for us next!
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
I run at 18-20 PSI pretty consistently, when you're doing this kind of glazing, you are working extremely thin. It varies but often like 3-4 drops of thinner to a drop of even the speed paints. A .4 needle is pretty large for that, in general, I am using a .2 or a .15 for these kind of tasks, you can use the existing body, you just need new needle, nozzle.
@daemonicxi91Ай бұрын
@@VinceVenturella Thanks Vince amazing advice as always! Really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment :). Ah yes of course I didn't even consider a nozzle and needle I know H&S recently launched a bunch for the ultra so i'll look into this! Have yourself a great day and can't wait for this weeks video!
@shenkyeirambo5601Ай бұрын
What would you say is the maximum lifetime of a puddle of paint on a wet palette? I always see people talking about lasting weeks on one puddle when realistically it should only be a few days. What are your thoughts on this?
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
The day you're painting with it, in general, you don't even want to stretch over multiple days, that being said, humidity can effect that and some paints in certain humidity can last quite a while.
@adamcraig9834Ай бұрын
Vince, every time I have done this technique for texture, it always destroys the tip on my brushes. I’ve tried different brands (Raphael, W&N, Rosemary, Artis Opis) and brush sizes. I assume at this point, it’s either just a technique that’s hard on the brush tips and wears them down, or it’s user error. Have you had the same issue, and if not, how can you prevent the damage of heavy use?
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
I am still using the same brush I used here, it's likely just technique (though all brushes wear down eventually). So the key is one, you are really holding the brush at an angle, so you are never contacting directly against the pure tip of the brush, two you are using relatively thin paint, thicker paint will wear the brush more and three, the pressure you apply should be quite light. You are just barely touching against the mini.
@adamcraig9834Ай бұрын
@@VinceVenturella Thanks. How long do you typically expect a quality brush to last?
