How to Paint RC Car Body - I Paint my Traxxas Rustler Body - First Time

This is my first venture in learning how to paint an rc car body and I think that it turned out better than expected. I decided to paint this car Black, Pink, and Purple. There are a few things I would have done differently. All in all it was a good experience, and I had fun with it.
7 Steps to painting your RC Car Body.
Step 1: Mark the body-post locations
0:00 Step 2: Wash the body
1:08 Step 3: Apply the window masks
2:22 Step 4: Mask The design
2:55 Step 5: Paint!
3:09 Step 6: Remove the masking & apply the second color
5:29 Step 7: Pull the overspray masking

Well I'm a little late to the party, but it's a hell of a lot easier to tape off the windshield, and the windows, if you just stick the sticker one inside backwards... Like way easier...

Awesome job, love the colours and patterns. Only one suggestion - you can bypass the manual work of creating the masks for the windows and rear skylight, by simply using the stickers that Traxxas gives you as masks. This worked for me and saved time.

I had fun with RC cars when I was younger and I have been wanting to get caught up on the sport. Two cars came up for sale (from my nephew) and I pounced on them. I'm not regretting it at all.

Hi there, looks amazing, can you give me an advice to prevent chipping ? I’ve made my x Maxx body and after some crashes it chipped out completely... many thanks in advance

I do not have any tips on completely stopping chipping, but there are a few things to do during the whole process to help prevent it. 1st scrub it well with soap and water with a scotch bright scrubbing pad. 2nd make sure it's rinsed thoroughly 3rd use a good paint for polycarbonate bodies, not your standard spray paint from harbor freight. Tamiya or an equivalent works well 4th use alot of light coats not one thick coat. And try to keep paint build up to a minimum.
