As a student, you hear teachers say “don’t worry you can just paint over it” but in your head you think “that’s now how the pros do it”. Now it is more believable after seeing a master do just that.

This entire video I was sitting there going, "it looks really nicely painted, but, I don't know, something about it just doesn't feel like Rogue." And, for the life of me I could not figure out. Then you started painting the arm green and it took me a second to figure out why. As soon as it dawned on me Rogue keeps her skin covered, it made the model perfect.

Ohh how you made my day!!! Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!!!! I'm painting her now. You really pushed the limits with the highlights!!! Even if I don't go that far with them it shows me what's possible. Love the added debris to the explosion!!! And to think Dallas Kemp from Atomic Mass Games said they scaled back what they were planning with the sculpt for Rogue!!!

hello sorastro's I like your painting tutorials unfortunately I'm not very good in English, can you try to add subtitles in French to your videos. thank you.
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dengar! I'm afraid my French isn't good enough for me to add subtitles myself; I could hire someone to do it I suppose, but that would add to the already-high video production costs. I'll look into it though.. 🙂

hello master, I love your content, I've been following you since when you had 20 thousand subscribers. I miss something, game paintings that are coming out lately, I know you have no obligation to take requests, but I would love to see game paintings like: unfathomable and nemesis. Your paintings will always be the best, as will your video editing. I'm from Brazil, and I live in the Amazon. Thanks for everything, I started painting because of you

2 minor nitpicks: you missed the black lines on her chest coming out from under the jacket , and her hair has a white "skunk stripe" not just the front ....otherwise gg , as usual :)
@Sorastro

Thanks Ian! In the comics she’s usually depicted with white just at the front of the hair, and I tend to defer to the comic-book iterations of the characters. 😀

Goes from mixing Sahara Yellow to a bit of the base colour to pure teneree yellow without explaining anything. Great painter, poorly executed tutorial.
@Sorastro
@Sorastro Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the honest feedback. Is it possible you missed the part in the video at 9min 17secs where I show the progression of yellow tones? ("Next I'm going to highlight the areas of yellow using Sahara Yellow, and then with the addition of Sol and Tenere Yellow.") And then at 10min 36secs: "This is now pure Tenere Yellow". I don't always explain the exact placement of tones because that can be seen in the video, but was there anything else you feel that needs explaining?
@GiftofChaosStudio
@GiftofChaosStudio Жыл бұрын
@@Sorastro I think, as someone who does teach painting to you people myself, some of the most common questions are what next and can you explain that. Like for instance, how much sol Yellow to did you add before mixing in Tenere and so forth. I feel as these videos are meant to help and instruct, more depth to the important parts, the technicals should be done. I enjoy your work, but I often find myself wondering if you're guarding it so people don't copy you exaxtly. Your videos have been a source of some inspiration and ideas namely the Scale Colour paints and I thank you for that. You'll just always have people scratching their head wondering, how you got to this or that with a lot of the gaps I see. Sorry for the dissertation. I just see a common thread in both the videos and Pdfs that could be addressed and if you have happy followers, getting the results they've come in hopes to get by following your tutorials (skill level removed) your channel will explode!
@Sorastro
@Sorastro Жыл бұрын
OK - I’ll answer the one specific question you had about how I painted the yellow; when I say in the video “with the addition of Sol and Tenere Yellow” I actually mean that I’m adding a mix of both Sol Yellow and Tenere Yellow (a roughly equal mix will do). Once I’ve brought the highlight up to that pure mix of Sol and Tenere Yellow, I added a few final highlights using the Tenere Yellow. If there are any other parts of the painting process you didn’t manage to follow, do feel free to ask, and I’d be happy to help, as the last thing I’d want anyone to think is that I’m somehow withholding information about my painting process in these guides that I pour hundreds of hours into creating for people to learn from and enjoy. :)

@@Sorastro oh, and by no means were my comments meant to tear down. I am certain if you and I were having coffee discussing it you'd see that over reading text on a screen! I love your videos, they are full of inspiration and new ideas! I was just left scratching my head with this video and felt I needed to comment! No malice intended! Keep 'em coming!

I adore these videos and have been watching for years. One thing I really wish high level creators would do is use a single or two brands of paints (Like this video). Most painters are “monkey see / monkey do” when it comes to minis. Those of us without a Patreon find it hard to have 1000 paints at our disposal. Just a recommendation, doesn’t call for flaming. It’s something I and some others would love though. Otherwise keep up the amazing work!
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Derek! Regarding paints, I totally understand the preference for guides that keep the number of paints used to a minimum for budgetary reasons, although I personally never understood the aversion some painters have to using paints from different ranges (since each paint range has different qualities and strengths). Of course, some painters have sponsorship deals which restrict them to using (and promoting) paints from a single company, whereas I like to remain free to choose whatever paints I want for the task at hand. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode! 🙂
